Anyone tried KVD's Line & Lure Conditioner?
I use it on all my reels. It wirks, plain and simple. The best snake oil I’ve ever used next to WD40!

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Can’t help with alweives, but I can tell you that most waters I fish are locked up. The wife asked me to fill up her Jeep for the storm so I grabbed my neighbor and we went for a ride. We headed south and ended up in Brewster, MA. Boss-lady didn’t specify where I filled up! Little Pond in Plymouth is locked up. Saw one person ice fishing on it. Billington Sea is locked up. Little Long Pond is locked up. Long Pond, Plymouth, 90% locked up. Great Herring.... locked up. Hinkley’s Pond, Harwich, locked up. Seymour Pond, locked up. Long Pond, Brewster/Harwich, looked open as far as I could see. it also looked BIG and CHOPPY. Sheeps Pond, Brewster, 80% locked up. Looks like it’s time to dust off the ice fishing gear and give it a go. Anyone up for a group effort? I’m thinking Ponkapog or Hedges but am willing to travel some.

How necessary is a baitcast rig?
I started using baitcast setups in 2014. I'm glad I did. I can't say baitcasters are necessary, but for me, they provide a better overall experience for the following reasons: better accuracy. more comfortable. no line twist, especially with flurocarbon line. longer casts, in most cases. I use spinning gear at night and when it's very windy.

Let me know when you want to go. I bought the gear a couple years ago when Kittery had 50% off clearance and haven't gone yet. Have a nice Eskimo pop up shelter too.

Kayak sonar pods
I recommend wide 3M velcro for your battery. All my wiring is in my kayak's hull. I use Milwaukee M12XC batteries in a Pelican box that's velcro'd to the hull floor. The velcro peeled off the hull floor once, but a can of 3M Super77 spray adhesive cured that.

Blade bait recommendation?
Binsky blait baits. Gold works best for me & smallmouth bass.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Took a drive after work this morning to see what my local ponds looked like. Blue Hills Reservoir is mostly skimmed over. Houghton's is completely skimmed over. Ponkie is locked up, but sure not thick enough that I'd try walking on it. Canton Reservoir looks just like Ponkie. I might take a drive to Plymouth to see what it looks like.... Leaving shortly for the Redwing Diner shortly. I hope to see some new faces there. ADD (1/13): Got a call from a friend in Plymouth. Little Pond is skimmed over.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
I hit Ponkapog after I got home from work this morning. I kept it simple. A M/M rod for jerkbaits, a M/F for Senko, and a ML/F for whatever else came to mind. Ponkie's water level was as high as I've ever seen it and the surface temp settled in at high 37.x - low 38.x. Even though the forecast said low/mid 40's a strong wind from the S/SW made things difficult. The wind pushed my kayak, with 5 pound anchor between .6 - .75 mph and broke through my layers in 2 hours. I pulled up some weeds with my treble hooks, and blew the bird's nest of the century due to numb thumbs. If it weren't so windy, I'd have stayed longer, but no-go. Needless to say, I struck out today, but I've got all month. I might try casting with my hunting gloves and see how that goes.

depth finder power for the Yak
I put two Milwaukee M12 XC batteries in a Pelican box and velcro it in my Lure’s hull with a quick- disconnect, making it removable. I use a Lowrance Elite 5-HDI and get about 4 hours out of each battery.

Happy New Year
Western MA and northern New England are also locked down. Where I live down through Cape Cod are still open. Tomorrow’s forecast here claims 50 degrees but high winds. Can’t say I’ll get out, but best of luck to those who do!

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
My curiosity got to me today while out and about. I visited Ponkapog, Houghtons, Blue Hills Reservoir, and St. Moritz. Ponkie and Houghtons were WIDE OPEN, Blue Hills was skimmed over by the granite retaining wall, and St. Moritz was completely skimmed over. I might just brave the wind and try Ponkie tomorrow. Worst case I’ll nab a couple picks on a slow moving spinner bait. Best case, a couple of nice winter bass! Good luck to anyone else that gets out. ADD: It’s not 2019 yet and I’m already looking for new waters to try next season. It’s gonna be a L O N G 12-16 weeks.

Moving to Rhode Island
I can’t help you with RI, but there are a lot of good waters along 195 towards Cape Cod. The Cape is also littered with good waters. Follow this thread: It’ll help over our border.

favorite rod savers for the yak?
Congratulations on getting into kayak fishing. If you have a SOT yak, it’s pretty unlikely you’ll invert it. But, better safe than sorry. I fish out of a Feelfree Lure. Their rod holders have a length of shock cord & a clip that attaches to your rod. You can make your own easily.
