Don, I’ve fished there on / off my whole life. It’s textbook for big bass, but never produces. It’s a very dark, stained pond, and the bass I catch there are much darker than any other water I know of around eastern MA. I say there are a few big bass there, but the overall population is smaller than one would expect. From what I know, Aaron Reservoir was created in the late ‘70s - early ‘80s to serve as a backup water supply for Cohasset. It’s also reported to have high mercury levels of unknown origin. I know the park well and don’t know of any old ammo bunkers close to the water. ADD: There is one other small pond in the park off a bike path with a dock I’ve fished in the past, with the same results. It’s water is the same type as Aaron Reservoir.

Derek (JG233) and I started at Wampatuck State Park this morning around 9:00. The weather was perfect with lots of sun and just a breeze from the N/NW. I nabbed two LMB in short order with a Whopper Plopper close to flooded brush. Nothing much happened for the next three hours until a dink Pickerel chomped a “ KVD Magic” Rage Tale Menace. Aaron Reservoir wasn’t producing so we packed up and moved to Hedges, in Plymouth. Hedges won’t produce a state record SMB, but it’s a consistent producer. I caught 6 SMB, all around a pound and a half and skinny. Four came on the KVD Menace, one on a 5” green pumpkin/chartreuse Senko, and the sixth on a Rapala chrome/red Shad Rap Deep. All but one fish were caught very shallow. Derek caught two or three SMB at Hedges and a Crappie (?) at Wampatuck. He’ll fill us in later. Water temps were 61.x - 62.x at both locations and BP was 29.9. Congaratulations!

I started kayak fishing with an Ascend 128T. It was a great kayak for not a lot of money. It was stand up stable and had beaucoup storage. $350 sounds like a good deal that’ll get you into a whole new world of fishing. Last I knew, Ascend kayaks are made here in the US too. Best of luck.

I dropped into Ponkapog for a while this afternoon, starting in the northern shallows and working west with the current. I tossed a 5" wacky Senko, T-rigged black/blue Chigger Quad, and a couple different square bills. When it was all said and done, I managed 5 pickerel and 2 LMB. One pickerel and one bass came in around a pound and a half. Everyone else qualified as a dink. The Chigger Quad and a chrome/red Rapala BX Brat worked best. Water temps started at 64.x at the north bank and were 62.x when I left. BP was 30.3 with a stiff wind from the S/SE.

It's usually my first stop when I'm down there.

You might be able to get your boat in Hinckleys, in Brewster. From exit 10 on route 6: Take a left at the end of the ramp (route 124). Take your first left onto Headwaters drive. Take a tight right just after the Cape Cod Rail Trail bike path. it's an unmarked, unimproved, dirt road. there's no formal ramp, but the beach area is good enough to launch small trailered boats & cartops. I carry a couple different S&W revolvers or an HK P30SK, depending on my mood/dress. The SK is ambidextrous ‘everything’ and except for the cylinder release, revolvers, to me, are pretty universal. Keep shooting different guns and you’ll find the one for you. Best of luck.

I own 7' LMH/MF spinning and a 6'8" LMH/MF casting Magnesium 2's. I see them as a MH bottom end with a light tip. I use them as all purpose rods. I've thrown 3/4 oz crankbaits with them as well as Neds on a 1/10 oz jig head on both with good distance and without issue. I hang a Pflueger Supreme XT on the spinning rod and a 6.6:1 Concept A with Concept Zero bearings in it. I really like both rods.

Dropped by my nemesis for a couple hours yesterday,Great South, in Plymouth. Because I was short on time I worked my way up the windward (?) shore along a steep drop off betting the bait fish were there. I kept it simple, tossing a wacky rigged perch Senko, a couple red square bills/crank baits, and a watermelon/red flake tube. I caught two sallies, 1-11 and 1-0, on a bright red Cotton Cordell rattlin' shad. I got the idea to use a red lure from bassresource's YouTube channel. One of their videos suggested bright red when the water temps reach 50. They're on to something because this little red rattlin' shad's been the only lure that's worked well for me the last three outings to Plymouth.... The weather was great, as others' mentioned. Great South's water temp was 56.x - 57.x, the BP 30.0, and there was a moderate breeze from the east. I saw my first minnows of the season along the northern shore and one LMB cruising the canal between Big and Little South. There were a lot of beds in the shallow areas, which I assume are Suckers, just like I saw last week at Hedges. Your Dorado .... TEENY ...... I don't think so ....

A started with Abu Veritas' and bought a Fantatista Regista 7' M/F casting rod on steep discount from Gander when they went out of business. I also own Kistler Magnesium and Heliums. They're all light as a feather, very sensitive, and are of exceptional quality. At the time the Abu retailed for $499. I believe they're $299 now, putting them closer, but still higher, than the Kistlers. After a couple years of use, I find myself taking my Kistlers out 99% of the time. Both are great rods, but subjectively I've grown to like Kistler rods more, which are made in the USA. Once you get into the $200+ price range, you're going to get a high quality product. I really comes down to handling the rod and deciding what 'feels' best to you. Best of luck picking out your new rod.

I have three Magnesium 2's, two Helium 3's, and a Magnesium TS. They're by far my favorite rods in my arsenal for three reasons: They're made here in USA. They're light as a feather. They just have a nice 'feel' to them. My Helium 3's are 7' M/XF and a 7' ML/XF. I use them for Senkos and Ned/drop-shot, respectively. Best of luck picking your new rod.

The weather was too nice to stay home and do house stuff so I dropped into Canton Reservior for a little while ... I picked up one 1-11 LMB and a cute little yellow perch on a 'new money' Ned rig and three picks on various square bills and crank baits. Water temps were 56.x - 57.x with a slight breeze that started from the south and changed to the east by the time I left. There wasn't much for new weed growth, but it's coming ....

Got down to Hedges yesterday with a friend's son. Got three sallies to the kayak and missed one in short order using the same bright red Cotton Cordell . CC Shad I caught them with last Friday (thanks to Saltysmalljaws for the tip about color choice). All three were good sized but skinny. Evan hooked onto one but lost it. There were two kids in waders that also caught a big smallie near where we were fishing. Shortly after that the bite shut off completely regardless of where and what we threw. By the end of the day the sky clouded up and it started to rain. Water temps were 52.x - 54.x and the BP was 29.9 after lunch. There were Sucker beds on the S/SE shore.

I second Salty's assessment of the Cape this week. From Tuesday through this afternoon I fished Long Pond (with Fishing Rhino), Hinckley's (twice), Shubael, Bucks, Snake, and Hedges (Plymouth). I managed two good fish just under three pounds: one SMB at Hinckley's on a Perch DT6 and one LMB at Bucks on a 5" black/blue Senko. Today I got three SMB at Hedges on a bright red Rapala Shad Rap. A LOT of work for not a big return, though the fish were nearly 3 pounds each. Looking back at the week, I should have fished more treble hooks . Overall weather for the Cape was raw and WINDY, with ponds showing temps from 46.x - 49.x. Hedges was 51.x. Lastly, it was my first time at Shubaels. It's a nice pond, but talking to a few locals, it appears to be a perch and trout pond, even though the sate website reports good SMB there. Perhaps another try now that the weather's getting good.
