A few questions you should ask yourself : What's your budget? Sit-on-top or sit-in? Paddle or pedal power? Will I sit/stand/both while fishing? How comfortable is the seat? How will I transport it; how heavy is it? That's just a few items. Rigging, rod holders, transucer location, where it's manufactured, and so on... I own an Ascend 128T & FeelFree Lure 11.5 and like them both very much. They're both all day comfortable (the Lure's seat elevates and the 128T's swivels), stand up stable, and resonably priced. The Lure is lighter than the Ascend, but the Ascend accepts a transom mount trolling motor straight away. Lastly, try to paddle them before you buy. Best of luck. No matter which one you buy, you're going to love kayak fishing.

I've used a Spiderwire back pack since '11. It's held up great. I like the integrated rod holders. I tossed the included boxes in favor for Plano's 1/2 heights. The bag holds five of those and two 'regular height' boxes for my spinner and larger baits.

Drove south to Plymouth and dropped into Little Pond for a little bit yesterday afternoon. Water temps were in the low 70's and wind gusty from the East. Got two straight away on my gourd green T-rigged worm and two more on a wacky rigged Senko. Had to work last night so I bailed at 3:30. Nothing over a pound and a half, but it beats nothing.

Welcome to the forum. I'm just south of Bah-sten. Look up the Eastern MA thread in Northeast fishing. A group of us 'locals' keep in touch with what's going on around locally and occasionally meet to fish.

Consider PPS on your spinning rig. I find it very soft and pliable and the best casting braid I've tried on my spinning gear. I use 10 pound on my Pflueger 20/25 reels and 20 pound on my 30's.

No, just one of those days... Returned after work this evening and fared better. A few picks straight away and one bass, roughly a pound. Lightning moved in just after the bass. I beat feet just before the downpour.

Went to Ponkapog after work yesterday. It was as crowded as I've ever seen it. There were three canoes and six kayaks. Water temps were in the higher 70's and wind was light. I used a Yozuri bass flavored topwater 'popper', 5" swim Senko, and my trusty gourd green Zoom texas rigged worm. It was a game show. I backlashed more from my normally set & forget bait caster than I did when learning on my PQ. I wrapped my spinning reel's line around both rods behind me AND hooked my tackle TWICE. Lastly my spinning set up decided to go for a swim, though I managed to get it with another rod before it got out of sight or before I had do swim for it. During all that, I managed a nice fat little 2 lb. 3 oz. Larry on the Zoom worm.

Congrats on your new record. I use Pflueger spinning reels almost exclusively. With your budget, take a look @ Pflueger's Patriarch, which is on sale at the store you mentioned making a trip to. I find Plueger smooth as silk and very light, especially above the $150 price point.

I can't complain about Nissan either. I had a 1st generation SE-R Sentra I drove as a car stereo mfg's factory rep and auto-crossed in SCCA club racing that I traded for my '99 Tacoma. It had 164K on it with the ORIGINAL CLUTCH. The boss, err, wife, had a '88 2-door Pathfinder that she traded for her 4-Runner in '01. It had 150K on it. The only problem over 300+K miles was a power steering pump, covered under warranty, in my SE-R.

I have a Diawa Ardito travel rod I brought to Florida on Jet Blue this year. They allowed the rod as a carry on, but my tackle needed to be checked in as luggage.

Met JG233 at Ponkie this morning. Surface temps started in the mid 60s and finished @ 2:30 just under 70. Saw a lot of empty beds by the beach. The wind was light from the SW. Overall a very good day on the kayaks. I managed 6 to the boat and lost a few close to the 'yak, so they don't count. One bass & one pickerel liked my top water, everyone decided soft baits were better. Pickerel outnumbered my bass. All fish were a little skinny. It got really slow after lunch, but I can't complain. Now that it's Summer it's time to to try to get some groups together.

I agree with your opinion about people, but not all of them s**k, and as far as littering, it's going to happen. I always take a couple pieces of trash with me when I leave, whether or not it's mine. And it's fair that you want to keep your 'spots' yours. You put the time in to find them, but I don't see a problem with sharing the ponds you fish at and let us amateurs figure out where the fish are. I fish popular waters from Boston to the Plymouth and have never seen more than a handful of other folks fishing. Anyhow, great to see you on this forum. I find it a much friendlier and more informative than the other one we're on. Trouble makers are bounced quickly here. Myself and a couple other members are going to try to get together a few times this Summer and fish in groups, be it kayak or canoe. Consider yourself invited.

X2 - I started out with a PQ and Carbonlite and progressed to pricier reels the more I read this forum. What I notice the most between the PQ and my Shimanos, Diawas, Conc**t reels is that the more expensive ones feel smoother. When I sent my PQs to Delaware Valley Tackle for tuning/cleaning, that gap closed considerably.

Awesome catch! Did you get the frog out of it OK? It is a sewer cap of a mouth, but that bait is deep!

Spent Friday on Great Herring in Plymouth. The weather was perfect, water temps just above 60, barometric pressure right where it should be, and calm water (a first for me here). Caught 8 yellow perch and 4 smallies, all 1 pound or less. I discovered I was using too small a hook on my Zoom worm and switched to a 1/0 wide gap (sorry Tru-Turn). The perch hit nearly anything I'd throw at them, and if they didn't hit it, they'd follow it to the surface... fun to play with them. It got slow in the afternoon, but I got a good hit on my jointed SMB Rapala around 4:00 pm but lost whatever it was because I let a little slack on the line - whoopsie . No harm. My trolling motor battery lasted the whole day and I explored the lake more. I found two humps adjacent to Camp Bourndale. I think I'll try rolling a jig/tube down their sides next time I'm there. Lastly. I'm looking at new spots. Anyone know/fished Waldo Lake in Brockton/Avon?
