I'm on my 3rd Toyota truck, a '06 Tundra with 141K on it. Toyota bought my '99 Tacoma back in '09 with 165K, and with exception of the frame, looked new. My wife had a '00 Runner we traded in '11 for a Wrangler Unlimited because we wanted a convertible but weren't going to buy a 3rd car. The 4-Runner had 135K on it when traded and looked/drove new. All said & done, we've gone 26+ years, 400K+ miles and have never been left by the side of the road. My Tundra was built here, as was the alternator (a Denso unit, with "made in Shelbyville, TN" stamped on it) and the flexible brake lines (I always replace them with stainless - no matter what I drive). My only gripe is Toyota is notorious for OEM only parts, which are TOO expensive. I like GM trucks very much. They drive great and with few exceptions, are bullet proof. I did a case study on GM while working on my MBA and learned that they'd built multiple factories and increased manufacturing partnerships in China since taking their bail-out (TAXPAYER $$$$). I'm not a big Dodge fan, and like Ford, but Toyotas have been good to me. I have a hard time giving an American company $40,000+ for a new truck knowing what they did with their bailout money.... Just my opinion...

Here's a picture of my spinning arsenal .... seven are Pfluegers. Two Pfluegers are Supreme XTs, one XT, and four Presidents/LTD Ed.s The lonesome reels are a Sedona 1000 and Revo SX. I'm not a big fan of the Sedona, but bought it on sale, in a pinch. The Revo SX is a great reel, but is heavier than my Pfluegers. It doesn't see much action anymore. There's one more Supreme XT ... I keep it in my truck with a travel rod for those 'just in case' trips. The one in the back is my first rod/reel, a Shakespeare I bought in the early '80s.

35 bas in 1.45 ?!?!?!? I didn't catch 35 bass last season. My 'yak and I have to move out of MA...

Got out of work this morning and planned on a successful day fishing Great Herring. Got called to help out my in-Law's neighboor with an electrical problem, so was delayed getting to Plymouth. Shortly after launch I found a hump I saw on a lake map so I stopped and tossed a tube on it. The wind/current turned me around enough to get my line tangled in my trolling motor. After paddling to shore, unwrapping, and retying I made it to a point/drop off where I'd caught some smallies last fall. After about 3 hours of nothing more than a yellow perch following a black/blue swim Senko to the surface I gave up and headed home. GOOSE EGG again. I guess I'll just keep trying.... perhaps the light will go on and I'll figure out what you guys who catch big (and many) bass are doing and get some of my own. Best of luck out there...

Kind of figured, with water temps right around 60. Ponkie is tough, being only 7' deep and mostly muck & weed bottom. I spent some time along the Northern shore where it turns from muck to rock but didn't see anything. The Pickerel were hiding too. No matter, wasn't the first or last GOOSE - EGG for me... Just keep at it.

No worries. There's plenty of water in Plymouth/Cape Cod areas to fish. With any luck I'll launch the kayak down there somewhere in the AM. Hopefully it'll make up for today's GOOSE EGG @ Ponkapog. Thanks for the replies. BTW Mike - welcome to the forum. You'll find it friendlier than MAF*****

Is there a public launch at White Island? I looked it over in Google maps and couldn't see anything obvious. Thanks in advance.

Funny, me too. It's a LOT of water to cover with a kayak, but worth it.

My favorite non-standard color is pearl w/gold/black flake. I find bass can be fickle about it, but pickerel seem to like it dragged, texas rigged, though weed beds (Ponkapog in Canton, for MA members).

Older ... in great shape .... and works flawlessly .... SOUNDS LIKE ME!

Did you follow Lews' setup instructions, or threads in this forum? When I learned baitcasters I found that smooth arcing casts rather than 'launch' casts worked best with the cast control set pretty tight and backed them off as I got more comfortable. Baitcasters aren't hard to learn with practice. Keep at it, and best of luck.

I fished Great Herring Pond in Plymouth, just off the Cape, last week. I didn't do that well but a couple locals told me they caught a ton of smallies. Water temps were in the low/mid 50's, for what that's worth. My Lowrance showed more deep traffic than shallow.

Sounds like the bass are hiding with this weather. I was in Williamsburg two weeks ago and the locals said they were on the beds. Things should pick up this week with temps getting back to 'normal'. If I don't pick up and extra shift tomorrow, I'll be giving it he** @ Ponkapog by 8:00.

The best addition/mod to my kayak? That's a tough question. Every mod makes fishing better, whether it's electronics, anchor trollies, or a trolling motor. So I'd have to say that my favorite mod is the last one I did until the next one...

Had the morning off so I dropped into Ponkapog Pond just before 9:00. Surface temps were 52-53.x degrees, barometric pressure was 29.3, and the wind was coming in from the NE. Just about the same conditions as the other day in Plymouth. I started in the NE corner where the soft bottom (weeds) turned hard (rock) and worked a chartreuse spinner bait, perch flavored Rapala Scatter Rap, and the same Senko I caught my smallie with. I worked back East along the shore, targeting weed patches. Mr. Senko didn't produce, so I switched to a white 4.5" tube, then a orange/red-flake Hula Grub, and finally a black/blue Senko. I got a hit on the Hula Grub, but missed - . After three and a half hours I managed only a dink Pickerel via the spinner bait. Oh well, beat's getting a ZERO.

Drove down to Great Herring Pond this morning, launching around 9:00. I didn't know what to expect, with surface temps in the mid 50's, air temp in the high 40's, barometric pressure was 29.6 inHg, and the wind was coming from the NE at a pretty good clip. I started with a smallie flavored, jointed Rapala and black/blue Kreature way down at the NE corner where I'd caught some smallies last fall. No smallies, but Yellow Perch hit the Rapala frequently. I worked the East shore back up towards the boat launch. Except for a couple Perch, it was very slow. I found some humps in 28' of water with 'fish' stacked on it. I tossed a bluegill jig at it the best I could for a little bit without success. Around lunch I bumped into a couple locals fishing in a really cool looking canoe. They said they'd killed it, catching 15 Smallies between the two of them on a black/blue T-rigged 5" Senko. 15 - 0.... OK, let's see what happens. I switched to what they were using, and sure enough, I bagged a 1 pound Smallie on the third cast. I continued working the drop-off. No luck, but I dropped my cast on the corner of a dock and got a hit. I repeated my cast to the same spot and got hit again. That was it for the dock... It got colder and windier, and with my battery getting down, I made way to the channel/points located left of the launch, where I'd had some success before. My Lowrance showed a lot of traffic. I changed to a lipless Perch colored Rapala but managed only a few more Perch. Although I didn't GOOSE-EGG today, I would have liked to land more than one Smallie. Perhaps it was the weather, or my unfamiliarity with Great Herring, I have a LOT more to learn in locating (hence CATCHING) bass. I'll just HAVE to get back there when I can.

I bought my in-laws a Dell all-in-one with W10. My in-laws are in their late 70s and I find W10 simple enough for them to surf the web and Skype with family members back 'in the old country'. I drank the Apple Kool-Aid about 10 years ago, and while not perfect, I find it's still better than the last three Microsoft operating systems. I still run XP on my Mac through Parallels. Like other members, I don't upgrade/update my OS.
