I own a '14 128T and a FeelFree Lure 11.5. Both are great kayaks. You say mounting a trolling motor and fish finder are keys. I have a Lowrance Elite-4X on it now and am going to mount a trolling motor on it this season. Scroll down to the bottom of this thread, it shows how I mounted my transducer: I recommend the 128T because it's stable enough to stand up and fish, has tons of storage space (think battery), has a swivel, all-day-comfortable seat. Its shape favors a transom mount trolling motor mounted on the side. Read reviews on the 128T, and yes, there are a few flaws, but nothing that takes away from its value. Perhaps the '16 model fixed. Lastly, if you're Military or Public Safety, BPS offers a discount with proper ID. Best of luck picking out a kayak!

Sure do. You just never know what you'll learn, or who you'll meet. Whether it's something TO do or NOT to do, you can always learn something by talking to other anglers. Worst case, you meet cool people and swap 'it was THIS big' stories.

I don't live by them, but try to fish when they predict better conditions. I'd say they're 75%. I agree with J._Bricker that I've fished 'average' days and done better than expected. I guess they're the hunting/fishing version of the Farmer's Almanac.

X2, though my 7.3:1 is a C, and not A, only because it looked better on my MH/F Veritas. I have two Lews, a Tournament Pro and Team Pro Speed Spool. The Con***t reels feel very much like my Cores, cast like a dream, and well, my Lews don't. My 'C' is my GO-TO setup if I can't take more than a couple with me....

When Spring comes around, we'll work on getting Rhino out fishing.... and if we're lucky, he'll teach us WHIPPER SNAPPERS a thing or two...

X2. Every reel DVT's serviced for me comes back better than how I sent it. You better hurry though, I'm sending them a couple of my newer reels for cleaning, tuning, and recommended upgrades.

Hmmmm.... sounds like budget cuts. Your 3X is what my 4X was in '14 and it came with one. Heck, the Elite-4 HDI I just bought from West Marine (great sale price too) for my Lure 11.5 came with one. If you have a Radio Shack, or even car stereo shop near you, you should pick up a waterproof fuse holder and a couple of fuses. It's always good to keep some spares. Your local auto parts stores will also have them, but often charge too much for them. Good luck.

My Elite 4X install manual says 3A. It should have come with a fuse and holder. To answer your question, yes, you need it.

That's awesome! We were at Disney three weeks ago, but weather and time prevented any fishing for me (the resort we stay at has a small lake on the property.) I'm going to have to look into fishing at Disney. The girls can do their thing in the Magic Kingdom, and perhaps I can bag a few Florida Bass. Congratulations on a great trip!

I'm no where near PA, and 4 hours from the NY border, but I took a drive by my local spots and found open water in two of them. The shallow waters were/are locked up, but two deep (30'+) kettles were wide open. Though the farthest is only 45 minutes from home. I didn't catch anything, but got out on my kayak in February, in New England. Best of luck for the rest of the winter!

I launched from Long Pond's boat ramp at 9:00 on the button, starting off paddling to the far end where I'd caught a couple small bass my last trip there, in October, if memory serves. Today's water temp was 39 degrees. I kept it simple, a 1/4 oz Silver Buddy, 1/2 oz brown hair jig with small Havoc Deuce trailer, and a suspending chrome/black 7-14'Rapala. I tried to stay around shoreline that had drop offs @ 25' or so, but had zero luck. There were two other boats out there, a bass boat working the north shoreline and a john boat that started at the far end where I'd been earlier. I spoke to the john boat pilot and he said he caught two brown trout and a smallie on a blade bait on the opposite side I'd worked. After a while I worked my way back near the launch and worked a small trout flavored, jointed, Rapala and a 1/8 oz chartreuse/pink/white hair jig in hopes of a trout. Nada. I left at 2:30 to get back home to pick my daughter up from swim practice. The whole day I saw only one trout in the shallows and nothing on my Lowrance. This was my third trip to Long Pond, so no harm that I didn't catch anything, I still fished in February. I made lots of mental notes where I saw rock beds, submerged trees, and steep drop offs. I should do better in a couple months when the water temps warm back up.

Burned up some more gas today, traveling to my normal spots PLUS a blast down to Long and Little Ponds. No changes around Boston, but both Little and Long ponds were WIDE OPEN! Needless to say the Kayak's loaded and ready to go! Lastly, Billington Sea, which is right next to Little Pond, was iced over. The common denominator with the frozen ponds is that they're shallow, where Little and Long are kettles. Anyhow, if anyone gets out there tomorrow, best of luck!

I'm in the same ball park as Long Island Basser (though Fenway and not Yankee Stadium). My wife and I both work and have our own hobbies, so as long as I cover the mortgage, bills, and savings, I'm pretty well free to play.
