I have a couple Helium 2s & 3s. They’re great rods, light as a feather, well built, and very sensitive. My 7’ M/XF casting H3 is paired with an Abu MGX. I’ve not scaled it, but I’d have to say it’s 8-10 oz., spooled up. Lastly, they’re made here!

I got an email from Kistler today promoting buy two rods get a select rod free. It ends 01 August.

Fishing Rhino and I fished the Quabbin Tuesday, launching just after 0600 with light rain and temps in the 60’s. Tom caught three LMB and one SMB straight away near the launch on soft baits. I worked topwater with nary a bite. We moved when things slowed down. I nabbed my first fish, a 3-9 SMB, on a T-rigged Senko w/chartreuse tail on a steep drop off. Tom followed suit a couple casts later in the same location. That was it for that locale, so we moved on. Tom caught a few more SMB while I continued with various treble hook baits. Working our way back to the launch in the PM I stuck a 4-6 LMB on a 4” TRD on a 1/10 oz jig head (think full size Ned). Like my 3-9 catch, Tom followed with a nice SMB. Overall it was a pretty good day. I caught a couple small SMB in addition to my big fish and Tom out fished me, like usual, at about a 4:1 clip. I think Tom said water temps were in the low 70’s. It cleared up in the early afternoon. BP was 29.8.

Look out for our own Mr. Aquarium. Mike catches nearly everything that swims in northeast waters.

Firstly, welcome to the BassResource family. I bought my first FeelFree Lure 11.5 in 2015, and my second in ‘18. They’re stable, have an all-day comfortable seat, and now have optional pedal and motor drive systems. I have their Overdrive (pedal) in my second Lure and average just under 4 mph under normal pedaling. The integrated wheel means no dragging it through the woods. FeelFree’s overall fit/finish is very good and their customer service is top notch. My advise is look at as many different models as you can before buying. Test paddle if you can. Best of luck picking out a fishing kayak. FeelFree gets my vote.

Hedges is worth it. I have my best luck along the far right corner, from the launch, corner where it drops of to 10+’. I don’t think you’ll break 3 pounds, but my best yellow perch is 1 pound 4 oz.

Dropped into Ponkie Sunday from 5:30 to dusk. Water temps were in the mid 80’s. Stuck with soft baits and topwater. Managed a decent pickerel on a wacky rigged 4” perch Senko. Tried Jacob’s Pond in Norwell yesterday. It’s 2-4’ deep and again overrun with vegetation. Luckily I got called into work shortly after launching. This summer’s been tough. Numbers and size are down. I’m taking a friend’s son to Canton Reservoir this afternoon. Hopefully we’ll grab some good bass.

Almost any kettle pond in Plymouth and Cape Cod will net you some SMB. Hedges (exit 2 off RTE 3) in Plymouth is a good start. Great Herring too, but it’s BIG, and often crowded on weekends. It’s $20/day to park at Hedges this time of year if you’re not a Plymouth resident. Hinckleys in Harwich is another. That one’s off exit 10 on RTE 6. Follow this thread. I planned on hunting smallies in Plymouth this afternoon, but weather and bringing my daughter dinner at her work diverted me to Ponkapog. I got there about 5:30 and stayed until dusk. Water temps were 82.x - 83.x. I caught two bass, 1-3 & 1-12, on a 110 perch Whopper Plopper and purple t-rigged swim Senko, respectively. Both bass had good bellies on them. My swim Senko also hooked a big pickerel. Unfortunately I lost it from knot failure or sharp teeth. Not muh else to tell, had some perch or small pickerel nipping at my Senko, and one pick came completely out of the water trying to eat a Rapala skitter walk. Add: One decent bass took off from the beach as I landed to leave.

I have ‘14 and ‘18 Lure 11.5s. I didn’t have a rudder on the ‘14 until I bought the ‘18 with the Overdrive and really didn’t have a problem with its tracking. It IS necessary with the Overdrive. The rudder transforms the kayak it’s an easy install and well worth the money to add.

Most ponds in Harwich & Brewster require resident stickers this time of year. Hinckley’s, Sheep, Cliff, and Flax don’t require such. Hinckley’s and Sheep are off exit 10. Cliff, Little Cliff, and Flax are in Nickerson State Park. Best of luck!

Nope. Massachusetts has a “sporting license” that covers hunting and fishing. Archery, black powder, and salt water are add ons. Mass licenses are January 01 to December 31. It’s all done on line. I keep a digital copy on my phone and print deer tags come hunting season.
