  1. Thanks Mike! Ordering soon!
  2. Is this still going on today Mike, or just for your bday? I missed it till this morning. Happy Birthday btw! Drew
  3. Another Gamy EWG guy here. I have zero issues missing fish.
  4. Outside of my frog setup (CH100SF), and my heavy jig rod (Core100), Im all CU50E's and CH50MG's at this point. With braid I see no point in reels over the 100 size. Unless youre throwing XD Cranks on 20lb mono, which a lot of guys do I guess.
  5. Yeah, its 18 here this morning. Im really happy to be in my office!
  6. OUT FOR DELIVERY !!!!!!!!!!!!!! The big brown truck will be dropping off a DX744CSH and a Champ 735CFH this afternoon. Outside of the days Im actually using my gear, my favorites are the days that my gear arrives. Just feels nice to open a new rod or two, a new reel, new jigs, whatever! Its going to be a long day at work!
  7. Buying at the numbers SK would be buying at, theyd probably be $.30 a piece. I owned a tackle company for 20 years, and used VMC trebles (albeit saltwater), and the $1 retail treble hooks were right around $.25-.30 a piece when buying by the 10,000 pack.
  8. Im not sure he ever had a specific "problem" though, reading his OP. He just compared his brand of choice with an open mind and found it to be of lesser value, or lesser quality than other available brands. I dont disagree with your sentiment, I just dont see that the OP had an issue that customer service could have helped him with. He also mentions more than one other brand that he is replacing his old brand with. I dont see brand bashing at all. Im sure Pure Fishing wishes that all brand bashers had 8 Abu Garcia combos!
  9. He did the single most productive thing a consumer CAN DO about it. He spent his hard earned dollars elsewhere!
  10. So, Im planning my next set up, and it will be a dedicated jog rod (1/4-3/8 oz jigs with occasional 1/2oz football), with maybe some medium weight (3/8-1/2 tungsten) C-Rig back up use. It's going to be a DX, Full Handled rod, so lets not start with the Loomis, St Croix, et al suggestions if we can help it! Its between these two rods, and it will have a core 100mg7 mounted on it. I have no issues with longer rods at all, I actually prefer them most of the time. I throw a lot of 3/8oz brush jigs with Rage Craw trailers. Secondary use would be deep water footballs (1/2 oz) with Rage Craws or Lobsters and deep water C-Rigging (3/8-1/2 oz) with 7-10" worms. But Id guess that 80% of this rods life will have a jig and craw tied to 15 lb flouro leader and 50lb braid. Anyone have experience with either or both of these rods used for these applications? Thanks guys Drew
  11. X2 Ive never had a single issue with it, although I only use it for leaders as I have braid on all my reels.
  12. No problem. I think youve bought a rod that will do what you want, and about 5 other things really well from what Ive read/heard. I fish with a guy that only has 734's and 735's on his deck. 4 of each. He fishes everything under 1/2oz on the 4's and everthing over (and frogs) on the 5's. Ive never fished a Dobyns XF, but his F is a slower fast in my opinion, and thats why I like them!
  13. Ive seen multiple reviews from guys throwin 1/2 oz swim jigs on that rod, and they love it. Get it, try it, and if its not what you were looking for, hit Gary up to buy it back from you! Ive read so many posts where Gary surprised guys with his recommendation on a rod. They always end their paragraph with something along the lines of "It just shows how well Gary knows his rods".
  14. Thank You guys for the great offer! Handle, knobs, red accents and bearings ordered for my new core! Happy Thanksgiving!
  15. If I could only own one spinning rod, Id probably be on golfresource.com right now.....
  16. Well, Ive decided that Im converting one of my Curado 50e's to a BFS. Earlier today I ordered an Avail micro spool with 4 pin brake and Kotobi BFS Air bearings from hedgehog studios. I do need to buy another 50 sized reel now, but not a BFS type. Thanks for all your help! It just sounded like a tricked out 50 will be as good a BFS reel as anything else, so thats what I went with. Drew
  17. Yeah, finese type worms (5 inches or less) on 1/16oz heads would be the heaviest thing Id throw on this outfit. Thats why Im thinking the 701. I want it for a strictly finese type rod. The cumara with the 50e will get the bigger, heavier worms.
  18. Thanks for all the information guys. Ill be ordering an Aldebaran BFS XG this weekend. Im so comfortable with the 50 size, and it seems to be a highly regarded reel. Im thinking a Dobyns DX701 is what Ill be mounting it on.
  19. What if any customs fees are involved in importing a reel from Japan? Im sorry if thats asked a lot, but Ive honestly never seen it come up, and Ive never purchased a reel or parts from Japan. I still have no idea what route Im gong, but Ive found a type r in my range, in the US, and I like that the Revo LTX's are domestica s well. The overseas deal worries me only because Ive never done it.
  20. The Recon 2 713 is actually rated heavier than the Cumara Med fast jwr that Im currently using. Its rated 1/8 to 1/4 where the Recon is 1/8 to 1/2. The Recon 712 and dobyns 701 are looking good to me though. Both are 1/16 to 3/8.
  21. Im selling most of my offshore gear and turning it into bass gear. My funds arent unlimited, but Id like to stay under $400 on the reel. I own 3 curado 50e's and am very comfy with the size. I may end up with an aldebaran bfs, and dobyns champ 701. That way I can leave my current setup as is. Where do you purchase your jdm reels jezi and booty?
  22. I would rather use what I currently have, over spinning gear. But I really like nice new tackle, that serves a purpose as well.
  23. Im not sure Im bent on it. Its a combination of really prefering a baitcaster, and being pretty satisfied with my current line up, outside of finese fishing. I found something I didnt have, which means I need it, which means I get to do the really fun part of researching a new reel, and then buying it! That aldebaran looks nice! If I was to consider a shallow spool for the curado, where would I find one? Thanks for all the replies folks!
