Starting To Look At "finese" Baitcasters......
I hate 'em! Ive tried over and over, spent too much money and time going down that path. I have two fantastic spinning rigs that just dont get used.

Starting To Look At "finese" Baitcasters......
OK, so Im at the point where I fish weightless T-rig, mini flukes, and 1/16 - 1/8 oz drop shot often enough that I think I can justify the costs of a "finese" baitcaster to mount on my cumara medium fast rod. Im a Shimano guy historically, but fish a smoke, and have a pro max that I keep in the truck, and like both of those just fine. The cumara currently has a Curado 50e with abec 7's on it now, and while I really like the reel, I feel its better suited stepped up to my next rod, a Powell 733 where itll fish Flukes, Rage Rigs, 3/16 oz swimjigs, and light T rigs. I REALLY like the looks of the Revo LTX. If I was buying a reel to look at, thatd be the one. I havent been able to handle any of the newer finese type baitcasters at all. The Pixy Type R is out of my price range. That leaves me with a Metanium, Revo LTX, and a JDM Pixy. Am I missing any? Does anyone have anything bad to say about any of those reels? At that price point, Im probably going to love what I end up with, but at that price point Im also going to do A LOT of research. Thanks guys and gals Drew

Do You Remember Your First Jig Fish???
3/16 oz Bitsy Bug craw color. The ponds I fish grow really crazy scum in the spring. Well, I went one day and the scum was gone, water got too hot I think. I tied on that jig and was either the first or second cast. About a 2 lb bass. Ive bought a LOT of jigs since! lol

Soft Plastic ?
Leave your confidence baits at home until you develope a "new" confidence bait, then leave that one at home too. Thats really the only way I gain confidence in other baits. I go fishing to catch bass, period. If I give myself the opportunity to rely on one bait or presentation, I will do so. Fishing that way, Im severely limiting myself. I have a lot of confidence in three or completely different styles of fishing now, not to mention multiple baits/colors in each style. I read that tip here, and it has really changed me as an angler. I am much more confident now, and can confidently present many different baits in many different ways.

Penn Battle Reels,, Thoughts?
I love mine. Had it for a year, fished in both salt and fresh. Filled with 20# braid, its a really great all around reel.

Has Anyone Tried The Spro Bronzeye Shad Yet????
I bought two Bronze Eye shads last week, fished them this weekend. One is awesome and glides like a mother! The other is a total dud and lists 30 degrees to starboard. Needless to say, it really wants to walk to its right. Im going to attempt to contact spro about it.... I pulled the hook and all looks to be correct, it just sits really far to the right. Never seen that in a frog before. Also using 50# Suffix 832, so it isnt the line. The one good Bronzeye shad is really the best walking lure Ive ever used.

If You Only Had One Topwater...
Pad Crasher Jr in Cricket Frog for both numbers and quality, open water and slop and walls and around timber.

Fc For Umbrella Rig
If the fish are spooky, Id think the metal wires would pose more of an issue than really thin braid. Thats just me though....

Need Help Picking Rod For Weightless Soft Plastics.
If youre keeping the MH around, Id go with the Medium for what youre describing. It will do THAT better, and give you two options with your MH.

Braid For Drop Shot
I run 12lb braid with an 8lb Invisx leader for DS'ing. It has worked really well for me. I do run a swivel at the leader connection and use both spin-shot and non swivel hooks. I am convinced that when sunnies are chasing and biting my swivel (which happens a lot), bass come to investigate. I run about 2 feet of leader above the hook. Im using tufline duracast and have had zero twist, or wind knot issues with it. Its the best flouro Ive used on a spinning reel.

Is It Fall In Your Area Yet?
Well, we just had our first day where the temp didnt start with a "9" since May. However, mid week is back up to mid 90's...... No fall yet for the Houston area.

Craws
I guess Im a sheeple too. I love rage craws and baby craws. I also fish chigger craws for a subtler action. Z man speed craws are super tough with decent action, and they float which is cool. Incredicraws are my f-rig bait of choice.

Flipping/pitching Gear Question
I fish a smoke on a *** 7'3" Heavy for pitchin. 65# braid works great on it. It is a great combo! Highly recommend it.

Jig Fishing Questions
Swim jigs have been working well for me the last few weeks. Ive been throwing 1/8 oz Bullet sieberts with keitech swing impacts, or big bite baits cane thumpers for a smaller profile, and 1/4 oz to 3/8 oz swim jigs with single tail grubs, or rage tail baby craws (yes as a swim jig trailer with GREAT results) for a larger presentation. As for how to swim them, the fish almost always decide that for me. If all my bites are coming on the straight wind, Ill do that. If Im not getting bit on the wind, I start swimming it with very subtle tip swings, getting more pronounced until I start getting bites. Some days every bite comes when the swim jig is losing altitude. Other days its all on the direction change after the fall. Some days they eat it however you fish it, but not very often in Houston in the summer. Bottom contact jigs, Ive had good luck with every color Ive fished. I really like rage craws or babys, and Z Mans turbo craws. I just like active claw'd trailers I think. I catch all my jig fish with active claws, because its all I fish. Some days its a really slow small hop, some days the double hop get away bite, and others its all on the fall after the high hop. Just let them tell you what they want. I have a few slopes and channels that almost always hold fish, Ill figure out how they actively theyre feeding in those places, and then go mobile with that pattern.

Shimano Core 50Mg-7 @ Gander Mtn.
Yeah, and if you look at the bottom of the page, the pic for the 51, is a rightie....

Psa Re: Keitech Swing Impact
After a few fish, the bait will be torn up. Sometimes where the hook exits the bait tears. When that happens, if you remove 1/4" of the head, the hook exits a fresh piece of bait and voila, a usable trailer!

Help Me Gain Confidence In The Senko
Youre not alone OP. Senkos and me dont get along either. I can fish Zoom finese worms, or 4.5"/6" roboworms the way described to fish a senko, and I catch a lot of fish using that method. But, with a Senko fished that same way in the same colors, nothing. I fish them on spinning gear with braid and a flouro leader, watch the line for twitches which come often with the other baits Ive mentioned, and never with a Senko. I had one day on Big Bite Baits stick worm, where I got em, but nothing before or since. Really frustrating! Its ok though, Ive been bitten with the jig bug and thats more fun!

Black/blue Jig W/craw Trailer
Siebert makes a 24/7 thats black and blue with dark greens and purples. I swear it works when black and blue wont. Subtle changes work at times.

Psa Re: Keitech Swing Impact
If youre using keitech swing impacts as swimjig trailers, DO NOT I repeat DO NOT bite them if they get torn up. Use your pliers. You'll thank me later. Im 3 pieces of gum and a gatorade into it and I STILL taste it! On the other hand, bravo to keitech for the scent! Great little trailers. They kick at very low speed which is great.

Siebert Outdoors
Ive caught fish on EVERY jig Ive bought from Mike. They look great after many many fish. Just a high quality, fairly priced, hand made product.

Did You Survive The Holiday Sales?
