  1. I have always had good luck with Diehards, which cost just a shade over $100. I have had other brands that failed after 2 years, but every Diehard I have had lasted at least 5 years, if not longer.
  2. Im about a half hour from Bass Pro, and while I like to go, they never seem to have what im looking for in stock.
  3. Are you talking about the green Extreme rods? If so, I happen to like them. I use them for cranks and spinnerbaits, some I have are easily over 10 years old. Never had an issue with them. I have a Carbonlite too, its an older one. I held a new style yesterday and was dissapointed that they changed the handle material on them.I didnt really care for it, but they are still good rods.
  4. I have checked it out, the thing I didnt like was you have to use their livewell treatment with that. From what I have read, I can still use the Please-Release-Me with the Power Bubbles or the Pro Air. Im also liiking into the nozzles from Flowrite, I had no idea it would be this complicated for me
  5. Thats a good video. Its not that im losing fish, I just thought it would be benficial to the fish to add a system. I use Please-Release-Me, and when its hot and there is more than 10lbs in the well, the pump is on constantly. I figured since cooler water slows the metabolism and holds more oxygen, it could only help. I have only lost 2 fish in a tournament, one looked like it choked on a giant shad it had half swallowed when I caught it, the other one im not really sure why it died.
  6. Thanks for the replies. I have been doing alot of research on it, and I think im going with adding oxygen instead. Something like Power Bubbles or Pro Air. I dont really have room to add another cooler for a cooling system.
  7. It definitely looks like some kind of spook to me. Maybe an older version of the one knocker, and someone added the props? The props on the wounded spook are longer and pointer, plus the wounded spook doesnt have a knocker in it. That would be my guess anyway.
  8. Im going to throw more jigs. Alot more jigs. Also gonna get back into fishing tournaments.
  9. I have fished #16, #41, #73, and #74. Honestly, #41, Congamond, im not very impressed with. Im not sure how it made it up so far on the list. All of the others I have fished put that lake to shame. #74 is a personal favorite.
  10. I just got one on clearance, im assuming you are getting it from the same place. I have one I got a couple years ago, never had any issues with it and at that price you cant go wrong.
  11. I have the same boat, link to my build is in this thread. My decks arent to the tippy top, but they are pretty high. No rocking chair syndrome.
  12. There are a few reasons why I fish from Jon boats. Where im from, our biggest lake is 1500 acres. Most of the lakes I fish are in the 200-600 acre range, so I dont really need a big boat. Also, most of the lakes here in RI have a 10hp limit. No reason to have anything bigger if I cant use it where I fish. Yes, you could save all the money you spend on a jon and buy a tracker or something. But, with a jon, you arent dishing all the money out at once. Build it over time, set it up exacty how you want and fish from it along the way.
  13. Im going to agree with this, I would definitely want color and GPS. I like Humminbirds myself, but there are alot of good units out there to choose from.
  14. I asked the wife to get me some of these for xmas, they look really nice. I guess we will see if she got them tommorrow morning!
  15. One more thing I would do, is when you go and look at a boat you like, ask the owner if they can take you out in it for a demo. Most of the time they will be glad to take you out, as long as they dont have anything to hide. This way you can make sure you like the way the boat feels in the water, and also test everything to make sure it all works. The last thing you want to do is buy a boat, take it out on the water and find that you hate the way it fishes or dont like the balance of it etc.. Make sure the boat "fits" you.
  16. I have built a couple, in the process of building a buddies Landau 1442 for him. Here is my current boat: http://www.tinboats.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=22621
  17. So I was thinking about adding a cooling system to my livewell. All the ones I have seen run throught the recirc pump. I usually run my livewell with the intake pump bringing in fresh water and only use the recirc when the boat is on the trailer. So my question is, if I install one of these, would I stop using the pump in and just run on the recirc pump all day ?
  18. I used to use the BPS Extreme rods exclusively. At one time I had I think 14 or 15 of them. Never had one issue with them. No breaks, no guide issues, nothing. I still use a couple that are probably at least 12 years old. The only downside to them is that they are nowhere near the lightest rod in the $100 range.
  19. I agree with the vanish. Set the hook and thats exactly what it does.
  20. This made me curious, so I did some research. I like the Sunline Super FC Sniper, below is the breakdown on it. Its right on par if not smaller than Tatsu, and for a 200yd spool of 16lb its $10 cheaper. Now im not saying that its a better line, and I have never tried Tatsu so I dont know about castability etc. Im sure its a great line, however my experience with the Sunline has been excellent. Its one of the few things I have tried and liked so much I have actually stuck with it. I'll take the savings and buy more gas for the boat. #6 .0081 #8 .0093 #10 .0102 #12 .0112 #14 .0122 #16 .013 #20 .0146
  21. I usually retrieve at a moderate pace, but sometimes I will slow it down. I will also pause it about midway back to the boat , just to see if anything is following it. I dont usually burn them unless the fish tell me different.
  22. Since I rarely throw jerkbaits and spinner baits, I would be chucking a 1/2 oz rattle trap. But if I were to throw a jerkbait, I like the Deep Down Husky Jerk in sliver/blue.
  23. Its not going to be easy, thats for sure, These days you definitely need an online presence. There was a local guy around here who had a small tackle shop. He was well known and had alot of sound advice, but he didnt have alot in stock. He had told me most of his profits came from live bait. He was doing OK, then Bass Pro moved in about 35 minutes away. A few months later he closed up shop.
  24. Does anyone know of any small clubs in RI or SE Mass? Im looking for a smaller club to fish with my 15ft jon boat.
  25. My only experience with All Star was about 10 years ago. I had bought one from Dicks for $50 on sale. I used it for a year, then in my last club tourney I set the hook on what eneded up being a 4lb largemouth when I heard "crack!". The rod snapped completely in half. I wasnt really sad because I got it cheap, but it is the only rod I have ever broken by setting the hook and never bought another one.
