Power Vs. Finesse
Shaky heads work great on a spinning rod with light line because of the fine wire hooks, you don't need the power to set the hook. Shaky heads are also a great presentation for when the fishing is tough. You will catch fish if you work it slow and stopping to shake the worm lightly when you reach some sort of structure, whether its a rock, stump, log, etc. Don't over work the worm, keep it simple and the bass will tell you what they want.

Need Help Or Some Tips Pulling My Hair Out Lol
I live in the north as well, fall is definitely here and instead of fishing where I normally would, I've went up into a creek that connects to the main river and found the bass chasing baitfish. You wont catch bass if they are not there. Try looking for bass and baitfish on the surface feeding. If you know the fish are there, then try throwing things that look like local forage for your lake. Other than that, just keep trying. We've all had days were you can't seen to catch a fish.

Quality Vs Quantity
Hmmm... Well quality fish are tough to find and catch for a bank fisherman around my parts. I consider a chunky 15" bass a quality fish. Most of the fish I catch are dinks but that's what makes catching a nice 15"+ bass worth it. As long as I get one decent fish each time I am out, that is just fine with me.

Confidence In Spinning Gear
This fits my thinking exactly! I have never had a problem with the power of spinning gear, but as Marty stated, big bass for New York standards are like average fish for the south. (I've even caught snapping turtles out of lily pads and a huge catfish through dense weeds with my dad's 35 year old light action spinning rod without a problem. haha)

Pot Belly Pig
It looks like that fish has a ostrich egg in its belly. Nice gut, nice fish!

Lower Niagara River Fall Bite Is On!!
Largemouth fishing is getting good in the upper Niagara too. It seems like better fish and more of them everyday.

Shaky Head Snags?
If you getting snagged on rocks, follow what Dreamertino said or use a jig head for rocks and rip-rap. if you are getting grass on your hook, try not pushing the hook all the way through the plastic when rigging it. Colors I like for zoom worms are Watermelon magic for clear water or any watermelon variation.

Creek Fishing
Now that its fall, I've been heading back into one of the creeks off the Niagara river and having some good luck. Today I was out fishing there in a outlet on the main creek around a small island, it is pretty shallow and it was the first time I actually seen bass chasing small baitfish (around 2-3in) and breaking the surface for them. You can see the small fish jumping at the surface to try to get away, it was pretty excited to watch! Anyway, I've been only catching them on black senkos and other weightless plastic worms.I was casting around a half submerged log and nailed a nice 17in bass and it put up the best fight! I tried some small flukes, no luck. It is also a tough place to fish using anything with a exposed hook (relatively muddy/stained water with weed pockets and some slop on the surface in places) What should I do? I obviously found the bass and bait fish. should I keep using senkos since they are working ok? I could probably be catching double the amount a normally catch for one trip if I found a bait that they really love. https://maps.google.com/?ll=43.024008,-78.831689&spn=0.007185,0.016243&t=h&z=16 Here is a link to the spot on Google maps to show you guys if you'd like to see.

2014 Wish List
Being a first year bass fisherman, I'm experimenting with new baits and lures like most fishermen do, so I decided to start making a list of particular baits for different categories of lures on a word document. I've been following different topics on here as well to get some ideas flowing. So, basically I am asking you guys to help me add to my "Must Have" list for next year. Posting anything, even simple effective baits or terminal tackle would be greatly appreciated! (Contributing to this topic will also help other beginners or other fishermen looking for something new) So keep adding to this post!!!

How do you like to rig them on the shakE2?- Zequanox Zebra Mussel Treatment
Yeah, the zebra mussels filter the water very well, allowing the weeds and grass to grow rapidly which gives LMB the needed habitat. I believe before they made their way into the Great Lakes, fishing for LMB was very limited and not was it is today. The bass are making a comeback for WNY (for the Great Lakes at least).- Fluke Fishing
Dead sticking is just allowing the bait to rest on the bottom with no movement right?- Fluke Fishing
I've never fished flukes before but I'm thinking of picking some up tomorrow while renewing my fishing license. I'm probably going to use the smaller ones (2.5") since that seems like it would imitate the size of the bait fish around here. What you guys' favorite way to rig them? Favorite colors? Anything you want to add would be great!- Jig Fishing Murky/stained Water.
- New Rod For Fishing Plastics
What should I look for if I'm going to use a spinning rod for fishing T-rigs, C-rigs, Shaky head properly? I want something where you can really feel the bottom and when a fish bites. 7ft & 2 piece (Preferably) Under $100 On a side note, What should I look for when fishing cranks, jigs, spinner baits? I'm just curious as to what are the proper rod actions and stuff are for certain lures and baits. Thanks- It Was A Good Day!
Nice! Did you measure her?- Fishing Ettiquette
I've only had it happen where some little kids were fishing near me, but they didn't know any better. (Nobody was catching anything anyway lol) If I see someone in my spot before I get there, I always ask "hey, do you mind if I fish here too?" They always let me stay and fish, but if they were to say no, I would leave them be and not make a big deal. First come first serve.- Spooking Bass
Try to wacky rig the worm if there are no weeds to get hung up on.- Rat-L-Trap Shreds Bass' Lips
I was fishing crankbait and I hooked a bass where the treble hook hooked the bass's lips together. It was difficult to get each part of the treble hook out of the bass without one side ripping in deeper because of the angle I needed to take them out. Just try to get them out as cleanly as possible.- What Am I Doing Wrong?!
The only thing I can say is to keep at it. I just started bass fishing this year, and trust me, you learn as you go. Ask local fishermen about new spots and lures that work for your area. Also, try to find some really clear water with bass swimming around, throw different baits and see how the bass react (its interesting to see how they react to different things in the clear water). Change up how you present your lure (different twitches and pauses). Soon, you will be the one teaching people about fishing and helping others learn. - Mega Strike Mega -Tube
