  1. I have a 70mhf avid and it's pretty stout. If you have already fished one then you know what it felt like. I also have a tbc71mf that I really like and it's not night and day but it a little better. That said I got it brand new for 185$ and even if it was full price I would get it again.
  2. I have the 6'6" my-xf for jigs. I just got it but it is light. Feels nice but it is a bit tip heavy.
  3. I went to cabelas on new years day and bought a few things. when I was looking at reels my wife comes over starts testing some spinning reels and really liked the quantum alloy. It was smooth, the bail closed easy, there wasn't any slop between the handle and the gears. It felt like a really nice reel and when I went to buy one I took it out of the box and trying to close the bail was like hitting a brick wall. I sure the display was worn in but. I have become very skeptical about spinning reels and unless it's a true "drop-shot" I don't use spinning gear much anymore. That said I have a quantum accurist that I do use for weightless plastics.
  4. I use a pq and I can get good distance with it. Look at a longer rod or less brakes.
  5. after 2 orders from tackle warehouse, 2 trips over 45 miles to cabelas, and a countless of hours of youtube fishing videos...yeah....only 4 months til ice out
  6. You have gotten some good advice on weights, so the only thing I would recommend is to try out some other types of baits. some of my favorites are the berkley kicker frog, KVD magnum dream shot, northland smelt minnow, and even a yamamoto pro senko.
  7. You should get at least 2 different colors. light and dark. no matter what the top looks like it doesnt matter to the fish, they only see the bottom. that said I like the booyah pad crasher over the spro frogs.
  8. I use yellow 40lb power pro and a med-heavy pinnacle rod. I don't fish the heaviest cover but it's thick and I have pulled out some 4lb'ers out. I haven't felt the need for a true heavy power rod or bigger line.
  9. I don't spend 6-15$ a bait to risk not using braid. 30lb to prevent digging on the spool and good to go.
  10. Assuming we are just talking about bass fishing with less that 1oz lures I figured 40 yards was long. I dont worry too much but I notice a difference in distance between my bps pq and my lews tp. Still didn't think some were casting over 160
  11. Thanks for the responses guys. I wouldnt really fish it like a crankbait, but thats what they want to call it. it looks like it will catch some fish, just curious about what colors you would use?
  12. I have been watching some videos online and it seems like most guys are casting 160+ feet. I think I can cast pretty far but it seems like forever in these videos.
  13. Have you guys looked at the new yozuri crawfish crankbait? I HAVE to get one... No make that 2. I just want to ask about the colors. I originally liked the Brown and parrot thinking one that kinda looks natural and one that stands out. But after watching the tackle warehouse stock of the blue and luminous ones disappear in a couple of days I am rethinking my color choices. What do you guys think? I would post a link but let's be serious we all have a permanent tab open to tackle warehouse .com.
  14. You want a Plano 3771. Trust me. It's a life saver.
  15. As mostly braid guy I do have some setups with mono and fluoro (spooks use mono and my plastics use fluoro). I am also looking at getting a spool of either yozuri or pline cxx. My question along the same line as above is would you work a spook with copoly?
  16. I use one for my hooks and sinkers. Will be ordering 2 more 3771s for crankbaits. By the way the 1.38" deep boxes are more than brought for all the cranks I own. I will post pics tonight.
  17. I use a st croix LTB Med-fast 7'1" and love it
  18. I am looking at getting a new reel and had it narrowed down to the revo stx or the lews TP. ( I one one of each of these and love them both) so it comes down to price. Then I was looking around and became curious about the revo premier. is it worth it? what are the differences besides the obvious (bearing count, carbon fiber handle, lighter weight? the brakes are different, but different how? better? if you have any experience with these please let me know and thanks.
  19. if you can get the abu garcia veritas winch at tackle warehouse for 60$ i would do that
  20. Its interesting...I have over 20 "setups" but that includes walleye, crappie, and pike/musikie as well. as far as bass goes I choose based on the lakes and get them rigged before I even hookup the boat. I like plastics, plain and simple, so I will always have AT LEAST 2 rigs for plastics. If im fishing with my father-in-law he has a 4 rod limit so it will only be 2 for plastics, otherwise its 3, one standard T-rig, one for (a shakeyhead, weighted hook T- rigged, or a tube rig), and also one for weightless plastics. It depends on expected conditions. after that I almost always have a frog rod with me, and a spinnerbait setup. again depending on conditions the next in line are a jig setup and crankbait setup. 1) 7'1"M-F with a 7.1:1 reel and 12# Flouro - Main T-rig 2) 7'M-F with a 7.1:1 reel and 20# Braid - Shakeyhead, tubes, or a weighted hook 3) 6'6" M-F with a spinning reel and 12# mono - weightless T-rig 4) 7'3" MH-F with a 7.1:1 reel and 40# braid - Frogs 5) 7' MH-F with a 6.4:1 reel and 20# braid - Spinnerbaits 6) 6'6" MH-XF with a 6.4:1 reel and 30# braid - Jigs 7) 7'M-M with a 5.1:1 reel and 30# braid - Crankbaits To answer your question; you can do anything with any rod. some are just better than others...kinda. its mainly a preference thing.
  21. Everyone has their opinions, like avery said, best is subjective. I personally beleive you get what you pay for and with that I recommend a used highend reel over a new midrange reel. that said I have a BPS PQ and I firmly believe that its a low to midrange reel. my lews BB1 and lews tournament speed spool are far superior than the PQ the same way I feel that the Revo STX and lews tournament Pro are leaps and bounds over the BB1 and tournament reels. again thats my opinion. take it FWIW.
  22. 1/2oz or so. I have thrown some 5/8oz and 3/4oz 12-15ft divers and I can tell that the rod loads a bit too much.
  23. i really like my veritas 2.0. I have the medium winch model and its a little underpowered for the deeper cranks but i like for lipless and squarebills.
