  1. I dont think thats what theyre thinking about. I think its a cost effective issue. its easier, faster, and cheaper to build a one-piece rod. Im not saying that they arent better I just dont think any big company couldnt build a superb 2-piece rod.
  2. I also got it for 60$very good deal. 100Isnt a bad deal at all though.
  3. I also just bought the 66mf casting rod and will be using it for jerkbaits and plastics. I really like the other fenwicks i have.
  4. you could try punching.
  5. All great looking designs now that i have a better understanding of the differences. next question...color? there are soooo many choices and at over 15$ each I cant get all of them. I think I will get at least 2... one shallow and one deep... one lighter color and one darker. with that in mind and that up here in the frozen north we dont have any shad so what color spectrum would you recommend? I might stay away from the perch pattern as I already have numerous cranks and rapalas of every variety with the perch pattern and to my recollection I cant say for sure that I have caught a fish on one.
  6. I use a 7'3" mh-xf rod but i dont have the thickest cover. I have never used a duckett rod but neither will i ever use a duckett rod. Only because they dont put a line or lure rating on them. I would look at the mojo rod, the 13 rod, or maybe a fenwick silverhawk. The silver hawk is a cabelas exclusive rod but they are 60$ right now and i just picked one up for some jerkbaits.
  7. I am hesitant to use braid because the lakes i fish have upwards of 15 foot visibility but i would worry less about losing a fish with braid. I will have to check when i put each one on how much it will affect the way it acts. I will look into that one
  8. I have been looking at getting a few more jerkbaits and im looking for some deeper ones. I found the lucky craft flash pointer 115mr. On tackle warehouse the chart lists it as a 7-9ft diver that is slow sinking but the description says it dive 3 ft and is a floater. Can anyone tell me which it is? Also looking at the smithwick perfect 10, lc pointer minnow, sk kvd, and maybe a megabass vision. The vision is more than i want to spend for one bait. I am currently thinking i will use 20lb cxx due to the places i will be fishing for bass are known to house large walleye and northerns. Is this really going to kill any action? I used 12lb sufix elite last year with shallow jerkbaits in lakes not known for sharks and was happy with the performance. Does anyone use braid for their jerkbaits? I will be using a snap on the line same as i do for all my crankbaits. Thanks guys.
  9. 4Lb even on a t-rigged kvd magnum dreamshot brown purple color
  10. Same in minnesota. Nothing but panfish and certain rough fish until may 9th. This is the first year of a catch and release bass season that starts with the rest of the species. Usually last weekend in may is bass opener.
  11. There is no need to repsool every year. one of the advantages of braid is that it should last 5+years.
  12. Rule #9: Never go anywhere without a knife. I have a dedicated knife for fishing so that it only cuts line.
  13. I prefer to spool it to another reel and the tighten the tension knob when re-spooling the original reel to prevent backlashes.
  14. All of the above solutions work. Like you I found out the hard way that braid slips on the spool sometimes. You can tie through the holes, I do on some reels, or use backing, or even the tape. For me it depends on the line capacity of the reel as to which solution I use. I most reels that hold 120 yards of 12lb mono I usually tie directly to the spool and with 30lb braid can put on about 140 yards. that way after a year or re-tieing I will take the braid off and add some backing to fill the spool up. if it has a larger spool then I just do the best I can to put 100 yards of braid on so that one spool get me 3 reels worth.
  15. Im going to be trying this with a revo elite 8 on a 1970's 5'6" fenwick HMG 4 power rod. The fenwick power rating from the era is far different than the #power ratings now and that rod feels almost as light as my current model ML HMG spinning rod. looking forward to it.
  16. There are a couple of lakes near me that the dnr is worried about winterkill so they put aerators in. This gives a football field size opening early in the season. In mn they can ticket you for fishing for a species out of season. So it crappie and sunnies until may.
  17. I have that rod and it will work great for that. I will not use it for the big deep divers though as it feels overloaded with a 5/8oz 15ft 5xd.
  18. I have come to like the kahara brand of clips myself. and as AJ said I would never use a snap on a jig. Really only thing I use them on us cranks.
  19. For hard baits no. When buying a new lure I like to buy 2-3 different color patterns and yes it usually means one is a dud but what if the magic one was the one i didnt buy? usually when I buy something I like to test it asap and if it works I will buy more. for me that bait is the KVD magnum dreamshot. its listed on the TW site as a dropshot bait but I have gone through 3 bags in the 3 months of fishing i did last year and there are 4 more where that came from.
  20. I texas rigged Slug-gos before I knew what a texas rig was. I thought I was some visionary until my dad said, "we used to do that back in the day". I was 9 or so when, for christmas I was given a cabelas mail order catalog and the total $ amount was already filled in and I spent a couple of weeks deciding what to order.
  21. Yes, yes you can!!! Im a mechanic at a bowling alley. I do, however, have a loving wife who makes more than me and pays most of the bills...so you would need her...and thats a no.
  22. I do this every so often with all my line types just to keep them tight.
  23. I feel the tournament Pro is the best that I have used. I currently own a BB1, a Tournament, and a Tournament Pro and I must say that the Pro is leaps and bounds ahead of the regular tournament. It casts so smooth and it reels so easily. Funnily enough though the BB1 has the best spool bearings out of any reel I own (some are still new and havent been cleaned yet). Not sure if they are the same bearings as the rest of the lews but these stock bearings will freespool for a solid 40seconds while I have hawgtech, boca abec 5, and hedgehog bearings that dont freespool that long. Like others have said you cant go wrong with the lews reels but I would get the best one you can afford for the type of fishing that you want it for and you wont have to second guess your decision.
