  1. I grew up on that lake... I took my kids up there this summer and the zebra muscles(sp?) Are killing the lake. It's so clear one can see the bottom in 30 feet of water. The fishing is good now, but it will soon be over grown. I for years have been trying to buy back my grandparents cabin there but can't get the new owners to come off the property. But now that the infestation is as bad as it is I'm kinda glad I didn't. There's the river that runs through the entire lake from west to east, just follow it and find any of the flats that go from 15 to 25 rather quickly and you'll tear the bass up. My 6 year old son caught his first 4lbs black there this summer. We we're 300 yards straight out from the old pelican resort trolling the flat when he hooked up. IMO... it's the best flat on the lake. Early morning, walleye. noonish the bass and pike are in the weeds, evening the walleye move back in. I fished for YEARS on that lake. Lots of great times with family.
  2. Lets start with pink in clear water (IMO) bad idea.... clear water I use smaller natural colors. fluke and a hook, watermelon red is my favorite for that kind of situation. pop, pop, pause pause pop, pop, pause pause.... if they dont strike, try a slow constant reeling.... if that dont work, small 6-8 ' crank (I'm assuming that depth cause you can see them.) overall, be ready to change it up over and over, different colors, sizes, presentations. Khong is right, get close to em and they may strike... One thing I have learned- when all else fails - throw a Spiro blood craw square bill- always seems to work when nothing else does.
  3. I've invited lots of people, they usually only go once though, they try and try while I catch and catch. I tell em what works for me, but I guess they just dont understand what I've had to go through to be able to catch em like I do. But for the most part I just take my little ones and those two will fill a boat with lots of bickering and making all kinds of twin noise (those with twins understand what I mean here, those without twins... well, I just cant put into words the AGGRAVATION AND SUFFERING)
  4. TAP....... TAP TAP.... SET THE HOOK LIKE I'M TRYING TO PULL THE FISHES SOUL OUT OF ITS BODY!
  5. Nice Fish! On to the elusive 10#er!
  6. I cant say that I have a "favorite technique", I seem to catch the most on topwater, Lately its been soooooooooooo HHHOOOTTTT I have to go deep therefor Carolina rig. Most of the lakes here in East Texas have had the vegetation eradicated, so I dont get to use a lot of weedbed techniques. I would have to say that I'm most proficient at Top water, free floating Flukes, Carolina rig, and then crankbaits.
  7. keep tryin! thats why its called fishing, and not catching.
  8. Pay to GO fishing? ummm.... only when I want to go deep sea fishing ( and thats because I dont have a boat that can get me where I want to go... yet). I'll catch that 10+ pounder one day, and it'll be worth all the hard work and dedication to the sport.
  9. The only bass I eat are the ones that I know will die from being caught. I do everything possible to try to get em back in the water alive, but we all kill a few. I refuse to waste a perfectly good fish in hopes it "might" survive having a hook ripped out of its gullet. As for showing others my honey holes, well, what they do with what they catch is none of my business. JMO.
  10. the water here is still in the high 80's give anything to have water in the 70's... still having to fish the drop shot in 30' of water.
  11. I have HB because I have the Ipilot-link. I have always used HB. I've looked at Lowrance, just prefer HB.
  12. I spend about $800 a month. what that includes all the boat maintenance and all my hunting stuff too
  13. we're still in the high 90's here in Texas. Enjoy the cool if you have it.
  14. its not the knot coming untied, but line breakage about 10' up from a crankbait knot. and its always about the same spot. I at first thought about switching line brands, but the break is in the same spot. to be honest its only happened 5 or 6 times (yesterday 4 times) so I'm guessing its not the line. either its equipment malfunction or user malfunction. Just trying to eliminate possibilities with others experiences...
  15. I've only been Bass fishin for a few months now, ( I moved from the north where all I did was walleye fish ) I've finally figured out how to use a baitcasting reel, and have purchased some quality tackle, rods and reels. Now lately I've been practicing (cause I haven't caught a bass yet) deep diving crank baits, and have snapped off the crank bait several times while casting. I've been using Berkley Vanishing 12# flourocarbon. I have a Wright and Mcall 7' crankbait s-glass rod, with a revo 6.4 sxt (2 centrifuge tabs on) magnetic brake less than 1/4 of the dial, and the resistance knob set to let the bait fall rather quickly. But after several casts I have to chase after my 6XD . The line looks good except where its frayed once I retrived the lure. I've also had this happen while using a shakey head (love watching a 2 dollar hook fly away). So guys... what the heck am I doing to cause this???? and dont tell me I'm casting to hard please.
  16. THATS WHY THEY CALL IT "FISHIN" NOT "CATCHIN"!!!!
  17. Invite all your little kinfolk over, offer a dime for each brim they bring to ya. Gulp makes an AWESOME little tiny artificial worm (comes in a jar at walmart) for about five bucks. a morning escapade and twenty bucks worth of dimes = one huge dent in the brim population and a bunch of happy kids...JMO
  18. The Texas and the Carolina are my goto, Lately I have stepped out of the comfort zone and started to improve on the deep dive crank. I bank fished for many years (couldnt afford a boat) and had lots of luck with little rattle traps and top waters and anything that floated. Now that I have a boat the game has definitely changed, but still like to run the bank lines using my old trusties.
  19. I fish for crappie and catfish with live bait, and catch a few bass(black), but I fish for black bass with artificial only... It's just my thing, I believe, to each his own, and as long as your having fun and your live well is full then keep on doing what you have been.
