  1. Invisx is stretchy, great for cranks, wacky, and great for skipping under docks. I've found 15# gives me the least troubles with light weights and weightless wacky jigs. I use abrazx for everything else that hits the bottom of the lake, grass, or shorelines. 17# flows through the micro eyes with no hiccups.
  2. I usually find I'm catching most of my fish in the 15 to 18 inch size. I'll catch some that can be 15" that weigh 4lbs and a 22" that weigh s the same... so far this year I'm stuck with a 7+ lbs for the biggest.
  3. Only bad day fishing is....? Nope, can't think of one. Some days fishing are better than others.
  4. Right now I have the most action with a Stick bait (senko) different colors for different lakes.
  5. Let's hear where you did your best.
  6. I just use the "Big Worms" 10" and 12"- replicates the snake action.
  7. Gamakatsu 3/0 EWG and 3/16 to 1/2 oz bullet depending on wind and depth.
  8. I tried one of the Bionic micro guide rods and it broke on a two pound bass. Done with BPS rods.
  9. The problem with leaving the fresh water in pump on is that the surface water temp reaches 88 degrees or better here in Texas, once water reaches 80 degrees the O2 content and retention drops exponential as it get warmer. I have several refreezable ice packs that I take and about every three hours I replace all the water in the live well to eliminate the ammonia build up... It takes 3 ice packs to drop the temp below 80 so I have 9 ice packs in the ice chest- that doesnt leave much room for waters for me and my partner. and I have an oxygenator- it's the aerator pump that killed a battery in less than 8 hours... It advertise that it draws less than one amp, but it didn't last long enough. I sure hate to have to buy another battery and run it in series but it looks like my only option. Oh, the joys of tournament fishing in Texas
  10. LOL, 10,000 comedians out of work, and your trying to be funny???
  11. I have this Humminbird on my trolling motor and it serves the purpose VERY well, and for the price its hard to find one better.
  12. Fished one of our local tournaments yesterday and it was one of those grinding out days. My first cast of the day yielded a nice 2 pounder. My partner and I managed to catch a decent stringer, doubt we would have gotten first, but I'm sure we would have taken second. I have a boat that only has fresh water in pump, so I got an aerator pump at Academy and put in a second battery just for that pump. I monitor that pump regularly because sometimes the fish will knock it over and it stops doing what it's supposed to do. Well, the last hour I move us to a new location, I checked the pump, it was working just fine. We fish for the allotted time and I catch a Spot, thats bigger than the one in the live well, on my last cast, I go to swap it out and find the pump is NOT working and all the fish are dead! Talk about something that can make a grown man wanna cry. So, now its back to the drawing board and try to come up with something that last for 8 hours for a continuous running pump. Any suggestions?
  13. Respect is earned when it is first given to others.
  14. Full moon make for long days on the water. The fish seem to have longer "shut down" periods during the daylight hours.
  15. I've had a same senko on my skipping rod since the start of summer, I've hauled in about 20 fish with it. I use heat shrink with VMC wacky jig. and I'm helpless addicted to senkos. I aint gonna lie, this senko is way outside normal but I'm just wondering how much longer its going to last.
  16. In the summer I find myself hunting baitfish more than actually fishing. If I find balls of bait fish I usually drop a jig spoon or drop shot into the baitfish with pretty good action. like said before, dont go home as soon as it gets dark, stay for a few more hours, as the water cools the big girls come up to the shallows to feed. Know where your thermocline is, and use the crankbaits at that depth, you might hit a suspending bass in the head. Hit the docks and rip rap just before the sun sets with the top water lures. Grass lines on points and watch for the schooling bass in the channels.
  17. Make your own mold of it, plaster of paris and a disposable storage container.
  18. Eagle Claw still uses them on their Crappie Rigs, it's all I use for Crappie fishing...
  19. We have lots of spotted bass here... It's also called the Guadalupe Bass. It's a smaller LMB and very aggressive. The dead ringer I use to identify it is the teeth (or rough spot) on the tongue. Once a person catches a few of them they are easily identified. I'll throw back the native LMB, but I like to eat the spots.
  20. I've had to learn to NOT set the hook with any of the multi treble hook baits. rule #1 to top waters and cranks is do everything possible to keep the fish from jumping out of the water. consistency in line tension is key for landing the fish. If I have a fish hit the bait I just keep cranking and most of the time the tip of the rod is in the water. Keeping the hooks as sharp as possible is also important. I've brought many a bass in foul hooked because I sharpen the hooks after a fishing trip or I've caught several in one trip.
  21. IMO i'de stick with the flukes. kinda hard to do anything wrong with a fluke. If the bait comes up to fast, add a small splitshot. Using the fluke juniors work with the crappie, sand bass and even catfish.
  22. I've tried 20# PP in a BC- had nothing but problems with it, so I went with 30# and havent looked back since. I do throw my frogs with 50# and the backlashes aren't that bad to deal with. I have yet to have a problem with Seaguar Kanzen digging in too far. I know that with the hollow body frogs the line doesn't spool back up that tight so when I do catch a fish and go to cast after I usually underhand the first cast just to keep it from backlashing if it has dug in.
  23. All-Star has a "Big Crankbait" rod- Its 7' 10" medium fast and works like a dream. I have a couple other Composition rods for different diving ranges.
  24. I used to have a kitchen sink lure. and it worked! got it hung up in brush pile and spent an hour with a lure retrieval , but never got it back. dove down to the pile, but wasnt enough light to see it.
  25. I'll use a jerkbait more than a crankbait. I find more big fish in shallows than I do deeper.
