Don't overlook firetiger in clear water, I've caught plenty on it, especially in choppy, windy conditions. Red or yellow craws work good in clear to moderately stained water.

Pretty soon i will be in the market for a bass boat. Looking for an 18 footer with a 150 hp motor or a bit better. In that price range, my research has shown boats will be as new as the early 90s. Nitro or skeeter would probably be the brands I would most be looking for, but I'll take an older ranger late 80s if it's in good shape after some good inspection. Am I going to be able to get something decent in this price range? The new 18' nitros sell for $27,000, the skeeters about 35,000, and rangers in that price range over 45,000 brand new. Wouldn't mind a bass cat or champion if I can find one that's in that price range and affordable, as old as late 80s. If I need to save up a few more thousand for a boat i'm willing to do so. Don't have the money now but may this fall. 18' is the smallest I'm willing to go and 150 hp motor minimum.

How does the Lexa perform? Meaning the smaller model with the light spool. I've heard both good and bad, but i like the 4.9:1 gear ratio for deep cranks.

I prefer braid for hard jerkbaits, or whenever I'm in heavy vegetation. I primarily use 15 pound power pro for my hard jerkbaits with a fluoro leader. With casting gear, I use 50 to 65 pound braid on my setup. Heavy punching, I would go even heavier, up to 100 pound braid, especially in areas where monsters abound like the cal delta where punching slop is a necessary way to catch fish.

Naw, upgrade. You'd be lucky to get one full season of hard fishing out of it.

Flush em with an overnight soak in acetone, then clean with with a degreaser, then soak them in isopropyl alcohol for a few. Add one drop of quantuam hot sauce oil or one drop of ardent oil. If you still have problems, upgrade the bearings. I had a cheaper quantum years ago that started doing that, and this worked.

Spend the extra $30 and get a Curado I. If you are throwing light baits under 3/8 of an ounce, go with the chronarch e for an extra 20. Two of the best reels on the market.

Is the *** a pretty light rod that's durable? I've heard mostly good things about them.

If I'm using a weight 1/4 ounce or over I'm using casting gear unless it's a small worm. For me it seems the slower the fall the more strikes you get.

I like a pretty light rod for wormin'. For smaller worms and lighter weights I like a 7' M or MH abu veritas spinning. For bigger worms, casting models of the veritas, ducket ghost, or quantum smokes are good. The micro guide models are the best.

They are good cheap rods for throwing crankbaits with spinning gear. Make great trolling and catfish rods too.

That being said flyfisher, you are entitled to your views. Not trying to make it a personal attack. Just disagree, that's all.

If the point is clear through the throat, I will pinch down the barb, then cut the hook with wire cutters. Then pull it out both pieces, easy as pie. I'd rather lose a .75 cent hook than kill a bass.

They catch bass. I've done well on daredevle spoons for bass when other presentations aren't working. Bass will hit anything that acts like food. Streamer flies will catch bass like crazy at times. Have seen 5 - 6 pound bass hit trout power bait and even #14 dry flies. They are opportunists and eat whatever they can grab. A stop and go, rip and jig motion with spoons can be deadly on bass, especially when they are holding a bit deeper.

The general angling public and general population disagrees with your view. Nonnative fish do not push natives to the brink of extinction. It is habitat loss through water development. The eco purists and the water developers team together to use nonnative fish as a scapegoat so water development can continue. BTW, most of Colorado is not biologically suited for trout, but for warm water species. Only in the higher elevations is it trout country. Most of Colorado is desert like Utah, Nevada, or Cali. I believe that trying to harm beloved sportfisheries with expensive and hated projects to "aid" rough fish is BEYOND SELFISH! It's government tyranny at it's finest.

The center for biological diversity is an eco purist extreme organization who wants NO diversity, only native, useless fish. Their idea of diversity are sport fish free zones.
