Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Hey guys, After a bleak May I'm finally on the board. I'm just over the border from you all, beating the bank in RI. Though I do fish many of the same spots as you all in Mass. First two this season were both solid 3 pounders, one on a weightless Senko and the other on a weightless Rage Bug (Texas rigged). Both watermelon red flake. Success this past Tuesday came on a bone white crank, running parallel to a wall. That yielded me 2 dinks and another nice 3 pounder. I haven't seen much as far as beds locally, recent rains seem to have mucked up otherwise clear water though. All I can do is fish shallow and cross my fingers at this point. Lol Tight lines!

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
I've lived in EP my entire life and never knew EP had a reservoir. I only just started fishing there last year! lol I have not tried Omega. I'm not really sure how to access it. Any tips? Brickyard on the other hand I have been fishing my entire life. I love wade fishing just off the trail that runs along one side. Been considering getting a float tube to access more of Brickyard.

Would that be Turner Reservoir? I haven't fished that spot in about a month now. Though, I am considering heading there later today.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
The bass are finally starting to bite for me in the East Providence/Seekonk area! I'm having luck with wacky rigged senkos (on some pretty awesome weedless hooks). I've been pitching to submerged brush, trees and stumps no more than 10' from the bank and am having consistent success. No lunkers to speak of but right now I'm happy with quantity over quality.

Bait Caster Question
One of the wonderful things about a baitcaster is being able to spool on heavier line! I don't believe the line test will effect the quality of the fight so much as the length, speed and action of your rod. Heavier line simply gives you more margin for error with how you go about reeling in a fish. Line weight will also play a big part in your hooksets. And as a fellow newb to baitcasters let me just say that heavy braid is FAR more manageable than lighter mono or fluoro lines. You'll spend far less time picking out backlashes!!!

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
I believe they're still in pre-spawn mode from what I have seen. I don't have accurate water temps but I have a hunch the water has still been a bit on the cool side. With the weather we're getting this weekend we should see some changes. Maybe even full on spawn? Just some speculation based on my observations out on the water.

Fishing In Southeast Ma/rhode Island
Jigs, worms, jerk baits and cranks are my go-to. The water around here typically isn't muddy but is certainly not clear and I find "shocker" type colors don't usually produce. Green pumpkin, black/blue, bluegill and perch colored lures are what work for me. Best advice, slow down your retrieves! The bass are biting now but I've had no luck thus far burning lures back to the bank. I'm assuming you're fishing from the bank. If that's the case, dress accordingly, apply your bug spray and get into areas that others aren't willing to get into. Make your own bank "access." Downed trees, points, stumps, grass, lily pads and weeds are all bass magnets. Keep at it, you'll have success sooner or later!

When Will These Ponds Begin To Thaw??!!
Here in Rhode Island most ponds are thawing out. Looks like spring will finally be sticking around, judging by the ten day forecast. I hope to get some casts in soon!

What Are You Doing Until The Ice Thaws?
Buying tackle, organizing tackle, tying jigs, staring at tackle and watching way too many fishing videos! On a particularly frigid day earlier this winter I even just went and stared at my favorite pond in all it's frozen sadness until I could bear the cold no more.

Your Occupation To Buy Your Fishing Arsenal
I manage a custom (picture) frame shop. Not much extra cash to be spent on fishing gear but it's always interesting to see what people will pay to frame!

Anyone Going To The New England Fishing Expo?
Any worthwhile vendor booths? I was hoping to maybe find some tackle I wouldn't normally see locally. Seminars and demos are always interesting too.

Post Pics Of You Fishing As A Kid!
Great photos guys! Fishing as a kid (especially with Dad) is such a universal thing. I'll have to dig through the photo albums today and see what I have to contribute.

Super Bowl Or Fishing
Fishing, hands down. It's an easy decision for me though. I have no interest in televised sporting events.

Ever Eat A Bass?
I tried LMB for the first time this past year. I enjoyed it. I'm not certain I can't enjoy anything pan fried though! It definitely doesn't come close to as delicious as some of my favorite saltwater species. Namely Striped Bass!

Confusing?
This past fall I caught my first gut hooked bass. Luckily the barb was protruding so I was able to snip it with cutters. The gill method looks interesting. I'll definitely give it a try when such a situation arises.

Fishing And Relationships
Luckily my girlfriend is very supportive of my fishing. Generally I fish on my days off from work. Typically she is in school or at work at those times so I am free to fish when I please. If she is around she always jumps at the chance to come along with me. She'll even come along when I wake up absurdly early to fish before work! It's definitely an activity that strengthens our relationship. As far as friends go, I sparked my best buddies interest this past fall. I thought at first he'd be bored with it but after the first bass he was hooked! I bought him a rod and reel this past Christmas and he is excited to get back at it. A hike through the woods to find the best bank fishing is as manly as manly bonding can be. Lol Fishing has done nothing but make my life and relationships more positive. Not to mention I have made a couple of new friends casting from the banks of my favorite pond!

It's a small pond so I would not be surprised. So long as she doesn't wise up. lol

Heading To Ma, Where To Go? ( Berkley, Taunton Area)
I know of Watson Pond and Lake Sabatia. I've fished Sabatia with no results. I did not stay long because the weeds are out of control and were less than perfect conditions for the crank bait I had tied on. Both are supposed to hold LMB. Sabatia has limited bank access on it's west side. Watson Pond is part of a state park so I'm assuming there should be some space to fish from shore.

Turtles
Jigging from the bank today, I spotted a HUGE snapping turtle just feet from where I was standing. It was just under the surface and apparently eyeballing my bait. Judging by the size of this dinosaur I'd say they have no problems biting into sizable fish of all species.

Todays Catch
I spent the morning fishing and landed my biggest LMB to date! I caught this beauty on a black and blue 3/8 oz. jig with a matching Rage Craw trailer. I had recently switched to a smaller reel for comfort on my wrist and I think it made for a more difficult time reeling her in. But I enjoyed every minute of it! I have to say that I am now also a total convert to jig fishing. Since figuring out a technique that works I can not stop landing big bass.
