  1. It all depends on the application. What will the rod be use for?
  2. Good to hear you really like lew's rods. I want to get a lew's rod but before I do I'm waiting to see if tackle tour will do a review on them. Also since I like my powell rods so much I don't know for sure yet. how is the sensitivity on these rods (the ones you have used)? Research after research, I read that it's a good idea to stick to one brand of rods because each brand acts differently from 1 to another.
  3. For lures: Rooster tails and kast masters. Bait fishing: powerbait, salmon eggs, night crawlers... My Line setup: hook is 18-36 inches away from the weight.
  4. After 5-6 hours of salmon fishing my arm was killing me. Total of 7-8 hours.. I didn't stop though, just took a few breaks. lol
  5. Love my bb1. Lew's, most bang for your buck. My nephew has the tournament mg and it works just as good. If you can wait until the holidays, there are always sales going on. For example 15-30% off most items online.
  6. When I was salmon fishing 2 weeks ago in northern California, I was using a lew's bb1 reel. I noticed the other fishermen was using bigger baitcast reels like a 200 or 300 size. My bb1 did just fine. You'll want at least a reel that can hold up to 150 yards.
  7. Yea but I've tried 2 and 3 brakes on with spool tensioner loose where lure hits the floor and no over run. I still get the same distance. Just don't know what to do. I've contacted lew's asking for help and that's what they suggested. (1 brake and tight spool tensioner. Plus a couple of other tips) If you haven't already contact lew's cause the rubber paddles peeling is a known issue. They'll take care of you.
  8. When you say can cast a mile, how much yards are you talking about? I have the bb1 in 6.4:1 and can cast 30-32 yards on average. I know it can cast further than this but just having trouble setting it right. Right now casting 3/8 oz jerkbait and settings are 1 brake on (not 1 pair) and spool tensioner tight.
  9. What's the gear ratio on the reel? What's the action on the rods?
  10. Last time I checked their site they only make spinning reels. I have the smaller spinning reel paired with st croix premier 6'6". Haven't used it much but when I did it is a smooth reel. Caught a 2lb striper on it. to be fair the striper hit the lure near the shore so the fish didn't put up a fight. On a side note it came with another spool.
  11. Lol funny story raider. That is how you do it. Lol jk. He's a ladies' man alright. Mr. Mac, Can't live long if one catches HIV.
  12. Agreed!! Love my bb1 and will be picking up the bb1 pro series. They are truly best bang for your buck!
  13. Now days there are companies that makes quality gear. It comes down to preference and budget. I did a lot of research before buying my next baitcast reel. Lew's does offer the most bang for your buck. I didn't do any research on spinning gear so I can't say if that applies to spinning reels. You can't go wrong with either reel/brand. On another note, I have had my shimano spinning combos for a 6-8 years now and still own them. They are still working flawlessly without any maintenance. Reason why I didn't do maintenance on them is because I didn't know any better and not because I was lazy.
  14. Good looking reel. If I knew about lew's a while back I'd probably pick up all lew's reels, baitcast and spinning. With alot of research lew's is the only company that offers the most bang for your buck (that I've seen. I can be wrong.) Hopefully they'll stay that way. Lew's is definitely a company I will recommend to family friends and everyone else who wants to start fishing.
  15. It all comes down to preference. I started out using a rh retreive reel. Now using a lh retreive reel. I can use both but I prefer left hand reels now. Just my preference and since I'm right handed. Some companies do offer more options (different gear ratios) in rh than lh. Lew's offer most if not all options in lh and rh.
  16. Lol if you do successfully install iOS on an Android phone let me know. I might just do it too. Battery life sucks on factory settings on most if not all smart phones. Adjust your settings and battery can last longer.
  17. Typing on my phone and there's no option to change the color font so all caps will have to do. Wasn't intended to yell at you.
  18. I wait until there is a holiday sale. You'll find some places that offer 15% or more off most items. I am also a member at tackletour.com. on their forum they have a hot deals sub forum. Another great site to hang out. Palomar knot is what I use. Trolling motor is convenient. When bass fishing it's good to move around to find the bass. Anchor is helpful but I'd like move around the lake. Having both is doesn't hurt. Some trolling motor requires 24v and some only require 12v. So if you get a 24v trolling motor then you'll need a 24v power source. Batteries for trolling motors require to be charge before each fishing trip; otherwise you can't use the trolling motor. Marine batteries need a trickle charger.
  19. It's a long shot but I say email or contact bassmaster, explain the situation and see if they can send you a copy.
  20. iOS is more advanced than the android's os. That was when I had the iphone 4 with the latest iOS and with & without the jailbreak. Now owning the Samsung note 2, andriod's os suits my needs better without rooting my phone. It would be nice to have both but I guess I can't have everything in 1. On another note, I wasn't impressed with the iphone 5 so that's what made me switch to android. Technology on the andriod phones are way better. At the time, android phones had a faster processor, more mega pixels for the rear camera, more camera & video settings, screen is bigger and I'm not limited to doing stuff. To sum it up, andriod phones are better in technology and iphones has an advanced operating system that android's os can't compare to. Just my 2 cents. Can you really jailbreak an iphone and install android's os?
  21. Before buying my second baitcast reel I did a lot of research and reading. Was leaning towards shimano, daiwa was on the radar but my nephew told me about lew's. I'd go with lew's. Either onee will do but I went with lews bb1 cause I can't be around magnets. I haven't experienced their customer service but have heard they have great service. I'm sure lew's isn't the only one with great service. Lew's offer a lot more for the money. Well at least to me. I'm not a 1 brand guy. I own a few brands. Fenwick shimano st croix powell and lew's. Powell max rod and lew's bb1 is my new current and only baitcast setup at the moment. The rest are spinning set ups.
  22. I did some research and instead of going by feel, I set mine 25% of the line's test lb. For example: 10 lb line 10 x .25 = 2.5 lbs I use an analog fish scale to measure 2.5 lbs. Others said you can set it at 33%. I'll stick to 25% for now.
  23. Thanks for the response jay. For those that have use scent. Does it matter what brand? This morning I stopped by a local fishing shop and they carry 5 or more brands. Find it odd that they didn't have megastrike.
  24. I've been fishing all my life but started bass fishing about 5-6 years ago. I heard about scent for the 1st time a few months ago. I didn't believe it and didn't think to do research on it. Now that I stumbled upon this thread and reading all these great opinions I want to try it. What scent should I get?
