  1. Daiwa tatula type r and lew's bb1 pro to add to the list. The choice is yours. Can't go wrong with any of them. I disagree. A 400 dollar setup is an awesome setup! Lucky guy. I hope he knows that you're a keeper!
  2. For jerkbaits and topwater (downward movement of the rod) Thumb on top of side plate, palm on side plate, and all fingers except index above the trigger. Index is in front of the reel. For upward movement of the rod, pinky below trigger and the rest above with thumb on top of side plate.
  3. In my experience the bb1 have been good. It's butter smooth and does the job well. I've throw flukes drop shots senkos and other soft plastics in the wind. It did well and I didn't get any backlash. I've read the description on lews.com and from my understanding it's meant for throwing heavier baits. You can't go wrong with either. Good luck with your purchase.
  4. Out of the lews I have the bb1 pro.
  5. That's a good choice. That's pretty much an all around setup you picked out.
  6. The left side is where I got the idea. Right side is mine. Since I want to use what I had around the house. I used my prescription bottles and zip ties.
  7. I spooled seaguar red label fluoro and I've had this problem with 1 of my spinning reels. It was a brand new reel too. I googled and googled but didn't find any information on how to solve this problem. So I decided to look at the manual. Manual says the label of the spool should be facing east and west and the line should be coming off the bottom of the spool.
  8. I've owned spinning gear for a 7 to 8 years now and during those times I didn't know or think about maintenance. So I never did it until beginning of this year during winter. I am mechanically incline so that probably helped. I tear down 1 spinning reel at a time and after the first one it was a piece of cake. So I will do it again next winter and once every year after that. My casters are new and hasn't even been broken in (only caught couple of fishes. Besides I don't fish too often) so I didn't break it down this winter but will do next winter. I've read enough research to know that reel maintenance (a full tear down) should be done at least once a year. Wheel bearings should be oil more often. I just follow the rule of thumb that goes for RC bearings. That is oil every 4-6 use. Just 1 drop of oil is needed.
  9. Top to bottom: st croix rod and reel Shimano clarus rod and daiwa reel fenwick HMG rod and shimano reel powell max rod and lew's bb1 pro reel team lew's speed stick and lew's bb1 reel
  10. Its not unusual but it definitely caught my attention was shore fishing in at a spot where no one was around and about 75 feet or more in the open water I see this thing moving side to side on top of the water. It was headed in my direction. I couldn't make out what it was until it got closer. Realize it was a snake so I reeled in my last cast for that area and took off. In the lakes & rivers I fish in there are rattle snakes... unusual would have to be when I saw a bald eagle. Also at the lake out of no where I saw a deer about 20 to 30 feet away drinking water. A few people and I was able to get within 10 feet close to the deer.
  11. You'll have to weigh or find out the weight of the A Rig you'll be using to see if it's overkill. Another suggestion is you can always tie it on and cast a few times to see how well the rod can cast if it's under 2 oz.
  12. Sounds like it. What are the lure weight specs on the rod?
  13. I do. I use mono and lucky had some laying around so I didn't need to buy any.
  14. Thanks for the heads up. I picked up one for myself
  15. I have the bb1 and bb1 pro (thought i throw that in). BB1 is a great reel and I have no problems casting weightless flukes, drop shot and other soft plastics. I actually test that on a windy day and was getting 90 ft or more. This reel shines when I threw heavier lures like 3/4 and more. Retreive is smooth as butter. Bb1 has the audible clicks in the drag star and spool tension knob. Although you can't go wrong with either reel. It just comes down to preferences. I have no choice but to stick with centrifugal brake systems because I need to stay away from magnets.
  16. http://m.harborfreight.com/variable-speed-rotary-tool-kit-68696.html#.UyhcT0y3PFphis is the one I bought 6 months to a year ago. Works great and still works like new. Probably have used it 7 to 10 times now. I like the variable speed and that's why I went with this one.
  17. Yup they're the older version. Nothing wrong with that though. I'm thinking about ordering one too. Fantastic price!! To answer your question yes I like these rods even though I don't own these yet. I have a couple of their high end reels and love it.
  18. What do you mean by tight? how's the casting ability? Thanks for sharing your impression!
  19. 1 yr warranty, lews customer service is excellent! I have the bb1 and bb1 pro. Great reels for the money. Best bang for your buck.
  20. Order from valley sports, ron is the owner.
  21. Great sensitivity so it will be great for bottom contact lures and worth the money. If you can hold the rod with the rewl you'll be using and see how it feels before buying the rod.
  22. I'd put the shimano rod with the t3 reel and revo with *** rod.
  23. I have both bb1 & bb1 pro. This smart 6 pin brake isn't new as previously mentioned. I like both braking system. The blue brakes are for lighter lures and white brakes are for heavier lures. The blue brakes are not spring loaded so once turn onto the ON position the brakes are on from beginning of cast to end of cast. Since white brakes are spring loaded, when they are turn on they only apply brakes when necessary. The brakes on the bb1 pro. Well there's a video on youtube and the guy does a great job at explaining how the brakes work so you can take a look at his video. Search for a detailed look at the bb1 pro. Something like that. His youtube name is keepingitreelfishing. If I had to pick 1 of these 2 I'd go with bb1 pro just because the external brake knob is very convenient.
