  1. If it's gonna break it's gonna break. Put the hammer down brother! I guess what I'm saying is if it can handle wide open for part of the trip it can handle it the rest of the way. Is it oil injected or do you mix?
  2. It was definitely cool to see them on Maine waters when they were here. I wanted so bad to get out and follow some around but just couldn't get out of work.
  3. Should I ask him to leave the electronics on it for me?
  4. Will you leave me your new Nitro?
  5. Would any of you even consider something like this? http://maine.craigslist.org/boa/5134667050.html https://www.google.com/search?q=ultimate+12+basic+kayak&biw=1440&bih=773&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0CFMQsARqFQoTCOjv8JHW7sYCFQJIPgodmgcClA Any experience with these?
  6. Is there a big difference in tracking between a 10' and say an 11.5'? Any other differences I may notice as a new kayaker? And I should point out that I've owned a canoe for 20 yrs so not new to paddling, just kayaking. My canoe, which I am trying to sell now to fund the kayak, is a 14' Lincoln; very wide, stable canoe. Thanks again folks. Great info in here.
  7. I appreciate everyones feedback so far. Keep in mind I'm comparing Nanobraid not Nonofil.
  8. In the effort to get more casting distance from my spinning rod, I'm having some crazy thoughts of polishing the lip of the spool to reduce friction. Is this crazy? anyone else do this and what materials/procedure did you use?
  9. So I'm a braid/leader guy and have been using SuperSlick. The line is getting old and needs to be replaced. I have read a lot of good things about Suffix. My question is, I have done some reading but can't seem to find what the difference is in the regular 832 superline and this Nanobraid? It's going on a 7' M spinning rod I use for the Ned rig. Obviously a light bait and the most important benefit I need is casting distance. I will probably use the 10# line. Which of these would you use for this setup? Any other lines with good castability?
  10. I'm not stepping on a soap box here but I'm very involved with my family. We have 2 boys and I've always played ball, soccer, football and everything else with them. Very involved in their schoolwork, their interests etc... I also like to give Mama her free time break as well (she is back part-time college student) so all this limits me to fishing every other Sunday. I sure would like to get out more but you gotta have your priorities.
  11. lol. I didn't have the strength to get into spinning setups.
  12. I use braid with fluoro leader on all my rods and wouldn't change a thing. I feel the tick all the time and catch tons of fish. I, too, tried the fluoro thing and got tired of doing a ceremony before spooling, heating it the night before, spraying it 14hrs and 17 minutes before using it, reading a story to it before going to bed, trolling with it on the morning of fishing but before your first cast and then doing all these steps over again half way through my fishing day. I just don't believe the hoops some people go through just to use this inferior line. Needless to say I have lots of leader material. #endrant
  13. Yup. Plenty of other proven knots that are a ton easier to tie than that contraption; uni-uni, blood, Albright...
  14. Trying to keep the Yak Monkey away but he's pounding on the door. I'm not saying I'm gonna, but if I was to look into getting a kayak, what are some of the basics I would look for? I think I would want a sit on top. What kind of length do most use? How much should one weigh? And do these look like something I would want to look into? http://maine.craigslist.org/for/5121441421.html http://maine.craigslist.org/boa/5121725082.html Thank you
  15. Braid is by far the easiest to cast on a baitcaster, imo. Spool up with 20# Power Pro Super Slick, tie on a rattle trap, adjust the reel correctly (in vid below) and go to town. And I would start out with the spool a little on the tight side and loosen it up as you get more comfortable casting and learn when and how to feather the spool with your thumb. Don't be scared; it's a piece-o-cake. You'll love it.
  16. I stopped fishing one of my favorite bass lakes due the overrun of Northerns in there.
  17. Any of these look familiar?
  18. Fixed that for ya
  19. Congrats! But no story? C'mon, we wanna hear about it!
  20. Much agreed! I prefer water I can track a small animal across.
  21. Nice report Maine! Glad to see you're keeping up your reputation for good fish.
  22. I would say that if you aren't breaking off and you don't have line pinch issues (on a baitcaster), then you should be mint. Sometimes you may get line pinch with too small diameter braid on a baitcaster.
  23. I'll echo that if there are bass suspended but no baitfish around, they are notoriously the hardest to catch. I would throw a few at them and if nothing in about 3 minutes would move on. As far as contact when cranking, this is the only way I ever get bit is by keeping constant bottom contact with my bait (except a lipless crank). I reel down until I touch bottom, then just slowly crawl it along the bottom with a sweeping motion, pause to reel up slack, then sweep again. Most hits come on the pause.
