  1. I may be out there in my kayak, cannot wait to meet up!
  2. I am not familiar of that place, never heard of it. I usually fish the upper james. Bremo-Columbia and Hardware-Bremo and then Pony pasture/hugenot flatwater, and then downtown at belle isle and the 95bridge area.
  3. Now that is a fish, nice catch chris. Let me know what you are doing this weekend. If you are interested in possibly hitting up the river. I got a canoe if you want to try that pony pasture area we waded once
  4. I love the rocks/rapids down right below the junction. One of my friends caught her PB musky out of there on a chrome rattletrap ripped across the eddies
  5. Down at the end of McCoy at the new river junction?
  6. I am going to be going in to this field next year in the best town on earth, Blacksburg! GO HOKIES! Hope to catch up with you and try and do some fishing, I have had some good luck smallie fishing and trout, but never tried for the elusive musky
  7. I know it's a bit of a hike, but Appomattox River Company in Farmville VA is one of the best kayak dealers, in my opinion. They have thousands of kayaks, great deals, and the staff are very knowledgeable. They also are more than willing to let you demo the kayaks at a local lake. They have everything for outfitting and SAFETY in their store. It's atleast worth a peak online at paddleva.com. They have used kayaks, specials, as well as new kayaks and carry everything from a Jackson Coosa to a Wilderness Tarpon to a Hobie Revolution
  8. I have been kayak fishing for a year and a half now and started off with a 12ft dager delta "sink" (sit in kayak). That was a great kayak and made for some speed, but I did not feel as safe in it as I do on the sit on tops. It was kind of tipsy while reaching for your gear and getting in an out is more difficult. Also if you "turtle" or flip, then a SINK will be much harder to reenter IMO. So last year I purchased a Wilderness Series Ride 135. Its a "SOT" (sit on top) and it makes fishing much easier, not to mention the added stability of it. As far as manufacturers lots of people I know fish out of Wilderness kayaks; mostly tarpons, but do not let that dictate what you paddle. If you can, paddle many different boats before making a purchase to get a feel for what you want in a fishing kayak. Casters and Pescadors are also two kayaks to consider for a cheaper price. I kept my eyes peeled on craigslist and found a great deal, but had to search for a while and drive a couple hours. Hope this helps, PM if you have further questions!
  9. I have yak-fished for a while now, and will not go back to riding in a jon-boat. A yak is a very peaceful and easy way to fish, no noise at all from a motor and it is very maneuverable in rivers. I fish the James River a lot, and having that maneuverability of the yak gives me the ability to fish stretches that normally would be inaccessible to boaters. I own a ride-135 and the yak is sturdy enough to stand and fish without too much trouble. Look around on craigslist and you can find really great deals on them. Both the kayaks you are looking at are great ones, but don't be afraid to look around. If being alone is what you are worried about, don't be. There are many kayak-fisherman out there that love to fish as much as they can! If you have any questions PM me.
  10. Small neighborhood pond within walking distance from my house. The pond has lots of bowfin and bass. I have pulled out many 5+ fish. Biggest was 6+ out of the far right box. In between the two ponds there is a 3ft waterfall which is great for fly fishing! The best fishing is found in the black boxes. For a shallow lake (deepest spot 5ft), this lake holds some nice bass and giant bowfin.

  13. just work it like a crab pot right? put the garage in the water wait 30min, and you can catch enough fish to feed 5000!
  14. Is this the class you need to operate a boat and pwc?
  15. Innsbrook is located about 20-30minutes from bass pro shops. If you continue south on 95 past BPS and take 295 towards Charolletesville and then get off at the second exit for Nuckols Rd, you continue on that and turn right on Cox Rd and the lakes will be on your left. I usually just park in the offices and have not had any issues. If you need more help let me know. Deep Run Park is in the same area as Innsbrook, and is a nice park rather than office complex. Lots of trails and playgrounds and two decent fishing ponds. If you want directions there shoot me a PM
  16. Sodaksker, I do know of a few people one including my buddy who will noodle for them, but going down to the bottom of the river feeling around holes with my hands only to find a turtle or snake is not my cup of tea.
  17. New Angler, let me know whenever you get a chance to make it down. It's always fun fishing with someone else so you have someone (someone to atest to the "fish that got away")
  18. Another picture, closer up
  19. Hit up the Pony Pasture a week ago with my buddy in my kayak and he was in a canoe loaded up with bass gear. We started off using flukes for smallies, but the bite died off. We switched over to throwing bluegill for flatheads (underprepared as far as rods go, I was using a medium heavy ugly stik) in a pool above the Pony Pasture rapids and below the Z dam. After no more than ten minutes I nearly had the rod taken out of my hands. This fella pulled me and my kayak around for 45min! When weighed he went 35+ we caught a couple more 15-25lbs but nothing else was over 30. It made for a fun sleigh ride!
  20. Count me in, never had much luck at rooty myself, but always up for meeting new people.
  21. Lake Rooty (Innsbrook lake) has always produced fish for me and is great fishing, but there are no boats/canoes/kayaks allowed on the lake.
  22. Yea, it's the one in Cumberland, I going on a camping trip with my church.
  23. Heading out to Bear Creek this coming weekend and was looking for any advice as this is the first time ever fishing it. Spending all saturday and most of sunday fishing it so I have time to try different patterns but just was looking for places to concentrate the bulk of my fishing.
  24. The creeks and lakes in the neighborhood are very much affected by the development in Short Pump and fishing is becoming much harder in the lakes
