  1. Innsbrook never seems to produce as well for me, but I do not fish it that often. Is Rooty the lake to fish if you go to Innsbrook?
  2. Was fishing the shad run right below the 14th street bridge and the wind turned me sideways while i was anchored and the current hit the side and rolled me and lost two setups and almost my fly rod. One of the rigs I lost had a citica reel on it and I loved that thing but was thinking of expanding.
  3. Newangler, thanks for the advice on the the BPS reel was not sure about how they performed though.
  4. Let us know how you do out there, and if you ever looking for a partner, PM me. I live no more than 5min from the lake. There are several other decent ones in the area, but you must know someone to fish them.
  5. I use a 9ft 7wt which i picked up from albrightflyfishing.com and have no complaints. Caught everything from little crappie and bluegill up to a 5lb bass. It makes fishing more fun IMO.
  6. Well a few weeks ago I lost my casting setups when my kayak took a roll, and ever since then I have solely been using the few combos I have which do not work well at all. Looking at getting a new reel or two and was wondering what your input would be for a decently priced reel which performs well
  7. I usually work the side between the spillway and the dock with an american flag on it. I usually do not fish the land with houses on it but will walk accross to get to the amercian flag dock. I find it good fishing though, pulled out a 9+ a couple years back but it certainly has fish. I usually will put in my yak and fish the deep side of the lake (by the spillway about 10-15ft) the other end is very shallow in comparison (1-4ft with some spots towards the middle going about 8ft)
  8. look into a sit on top rather than sit-in. I have a sit-in and it becomes difficult to fish out of until you get acustomed to it
  9. Carrington, I think all it was, was a fish that got knocked over the spillway or some kid thought it would be funny to put back in the creek. Regardless, he is now out in the lake along with the many other ones of size.
  10. Yes it's Wilde Lake, and if you follow the spillway to the bottom and follow the path that appears at the bottom of it and follow that for a couple hundred feet back it opens up slightly where there are tons of bream and a few bass. Usually nothing of size though.
  11. Went out the other day to a local pond and pulled this 6+ out of a small creek running off the bond. The creek was no longer than 50ft long 5ft wide and about 3ft deep. Not sure how it stayed down there, but when I went to release him I put him in the lake in hopes of a better survival. Hooked on mini-ultralite with a small minnow bait made for a fun fight.
  12. This site is great, but you should look in to kayakbassfishing.com its meant for folks like us who use kayaks rather than big bass boats
  13. Struck out with Cmatthews and another guy. Nothing seemed to be hitting down at Osborne, but we could hear the stripers and what not jumping all around us. First time fishing that spot though
  14. They got a nice pier will see if the fishing is any good its a perfect spot. First time going there though
  15. Carrington, for some reason it says you are not accepting PM's from me, might be a technical problem or something. However, I am planning on going out around 630-7 on Friday evening to either Osborne Landing or Maury Street area. If you interested shoot me a PM or something else if that doesnt work.
  16. New, I am heading out to the river next Friday night in an effort to try and hook into a decent cat or two and I believe Carrington is going to join us. Give me a PM if you plan on coming and I can hook you up with directions to the spot.
  17. I'm in... 8-)
  18. Weekends are the best time for me as well, but Newangler we will keep you in the loop
  19. I use one of those and it does an excellent job of charting the bottom, but with the suction-cup transducer you sometimes have to reattach it during a trip
  20. I have had luck fishing down by maury street between the 95 bridge and railroad bridge tossing out cut bluegill from a local pond on a three way swivel (8-10in line with 1oz pyramid sinker, and about 24inches of steel leader with a hook and slab of bluegill). Let me know if you interested in fishing it sometime, but until the shad calm down fishing is going to be crazy hectic
  21. usually at the dock at the end of the gravel road over near the spillway
  22. VAfishin where were you fishing? I was out there around 6:30 or so and couldnt seem to have any luck. The rain really messed with them
  23. Pulled out two carp at a private pond that went 14lbs 2oz and 12lb 10oz on a 3ft mini ultra lite with 6lb test. It made for one heck of a fight and was lots of fun.
  24. Congrats on the kayak, I got my first one over the summer and over the course of several months I invested in a paddle leash, paddle clips, fishing rod holder, and my new fish finder. The paddle leash has saved my life a few times as when fighting a fish I knocked it off in the water and it slowly floated down streams, but luckily was connected to the yak. Just be smart and careful on the water that's the best advice I can give you.
  25. Ha not sure I can condone any wahoo's but since you're a fisherman I will cut you a little more slack I guess
