  1. Any ideas for a fish finder which would be mounted on a kayak. I looking at getting one, but it would be my first time ever doing it
  2. I usually am not free during the week, but usually saturday morning I will make atleast one trip down to the river and try for some cats. Let me know next time you are free, and I will see what I can work out.
  3. you off saturday morning? me and my buddy heading out
  4. New Angler, it was right off the Maury street exit by Ancarrows? landing (not sure on spelling), but I had caught some bluegill from a local pond and cut them into chunks about 2-3inches wide on a circle hook with a 2oz bell sinker. Jam1082, I got off Maury street exit heading to the boat landing. As you are heading down the road I pulled off under the overpass and then walked up the hill (slave trail I believe) and walked down the trail until I got a dam sort of thing. During high tide its hard to find footing by the river so I just fish high above it and then run down to land them. Hope that helps
  5. I landed them both, but missed probably four more decent ones. I still getting used to the circle hooks and not setting the hook.
  6. Went down today off Maury street and fished the area between 95 and the railroad bridge. Hooked up with a decent 15lb blue i think and then a 30lb flathead.
  7. Sounds good man, you been out there lately
  8. Ha those are always the best times. I must say that's the spot to meet all the crazies; I have had many run ins with them myself and some are just off the wall ha. You fishing from the shore then? Does it calm down upstream from the launch or downstream? My buddy kinda new to kayak fishing so I dont wanna push him too much ha
  9. We had some decent hits on the bluegill rigged like you said. They just seemed to throw the hooks too easy, so i thinking they were not too big. However, I did have one that pulled me off a rock i was sitting on and almost into the water. He wedged himself within a rock though i think and by the time i got down there i only had half a bluegill
  10. Does this spot provide easy maneuvering with a kayak and is the current swift? Also is this located adjacent to the deep bottom park?
  11. Looking at doing a trip with a buddy out of kayaks, and were wondering where would be a good place to catch quality cats on the James River. Also if you could tell what they hitting on, it would be appreciated and as always pictures if you have any!

  17. The new river is supposed to hold a decent amount of quality fish. Its only thirty minutes away or so and you can catch everything from little red-eye to citation smallmouths
  18. I agree strongly with you dauberangler. I hate seeing fish caught and then people trying to weigh them and causing more harm than good. People need to learn how to use a scale!
  19. Smith mountain is a superb lake. I was just up there for a vacation with the family and got to fish the upper lake around bridgewater and south a little bit. Could not get a bass to save my life hit a minnow, worm, or lizards, or any plastics for that matter over by the coast guard complex i believe. Went up the following day talked to a tackle shop guy and he steered us on to the fish. We had some nice hits on big shad. My old man pulled in a nice seven pound striper while i managed a nice 4lb largemouth. It's an excellent lake and full of big fish and surrounded by undescribeable landscapes!!!
  20. let us know how it goes... been looking at hitting up that lake, but haven't gotten around to it yet
  21. well before i embark on my trip to smith mountain lake i have a few final questions to ask. what are the stripers hitting this time of year live bait wise and artificial and at what depth. and which buoy markers should i concentrate on for stripers and largemouths. any advice will be greatly appreciated to me being new to this lake. thanks, tyler
  22. if you coming from the city and go over the hugenot bridge you take your first right following the bridge. its right when the bridge ends and you turn right when you come to the T intersection and follow it all the way down. its part of the james river park systems
  23. where you catch that cat at? and on what if you dont mind me asking
  24. that lure likes a dragon fly and no doubt will end up catching some lunkers.
