  1. I've been looking at getting a decent fishfinder for my kayak. I was at BPS and got to play with a few. I'm really impressed with the Elite 5 HDI. I stopped by my local West Marine and I can get a VERY good price on the Gold version ( comes with the Navionics chip). The company I work for has a acct there so I can get it less than anywhere else I looked. So does anyone here have a Elite HDI? I was told that the 5 is exactly the same as the 7 just smaller. Is it worth the $$. Any inputs you can share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Todd
  2. Yea, this winter has been exceptionally bad. I need a dose of global warming! Todd
  3. X2 for Dicks. Also, look at Craigslist. Good luck, todd
  4. I know some people turn up there noses at Pickerel but I don't mind them a bit. I'm sure there are a few others here that are like minded. So what's you favorite lure? I kinda like a chartreuse spinner bait but they will hit a lot of different things it almost seems like the fasterthenretreive the better sometimes. One of the locals swears by a Red Devil. What's you favorite? Todd
  5. Nice choice Felix. I don't think you'll be disappointed. I paddled one and really liked it. I ended up with a Commander 120 but the Ride was a very close second. Todd
  6. I grew up in North Jersey. We camped on Swartswood lake as a kid. Many fond memories from there. Also the Ramapo river and various places in Sussex county when I felt like a road trip. Todd
  7. The closest on to me is Foxborough Mass. A bit over a hr away. Worth the drive. Todd
  8. Welcome from S.E. Connecticut
  9. They both appear to be the same to me. The exception I believe is the Chinook is more of a fishing vest. It has the lanyard for a nipper or scissors ect.
  10. I'm a 240 lb sex machine myself. A NRS Chinook fits great. It has the high back flotation which clears your seat back. Makes a big difference. Todd
  11. I went to two different walmarts with different results. One only had a few things red tagged. The other had everything red tagged. Senkos were $5. Rapalas and Rebels were $1.50-2.00 off. Didn't get anything but I may go back for a closer look. Todd
  12. Just do a google search. Todd
  13. Just got me a new prescription and want to get some decent fishing glasses. I will probably go with some Cocoons or Fitovers for now. Just wondering what the best all around general use color is? I know all the different colors have their strong and weak points. I was thinking gray but not really sure. Thanks, Todd
  14. I bought 2 St Croix Mojo rods from them. 25% off. No complaints. Todd
  15. I prefer a traditional PFD. Look at the Chinook by NRS. VERY nice PFD. It has a high back that will clear your seatback. Todd
  16. Waiting for ice out. Even if it's just to throw some top waters and spinners for Pickerel. Todd
  17. Checking in from S.E. Connecticut.
  18. Go to the Video section here and look at Carolina rig, Mojo rig, drop shot, Texas rig. That should get you going. Todd
  19. In all honesty try and test paddle as many boats as possible. When I was looking for a boat I thought I had a good idea what I wanted. I test paddled a bunch and ended up with something that was not originally at the top of my list. There are a lot of options out there from sit on top to hybrids. Todd
  20. 10lb Power Pro, 8lb fluorocarbon leader. Todd
  21. "Supposedly" square stern canoes aren't as efficient to paddle as a double ender. I've not paddled one myself but have heard this from more than one person. Todd
  22. Look on Craigslist. Always kayaks for sale there.
  23. You can also go with a Mojo rig. Really just a Carolina rig with a different type of weight. Won't hang up as much as a splitshot. Todd
  24. What size rod? Medium? Heavy? Light? What are you throwing? Light soft plastics or heavier topwater stuff or something in between? It does make a difference. Todd
