New Pb Smallie!
Yesterday I caught my new personal best smallie. She's a 21 inch 4lb 1oz monster of a susquehanna river smallmouth. Caught her on a texas rigged bass pro stick-o in green pumpkin/black fleck. After the hookset i knew i had something good then it ran up to the top of the water and i seen that it was a giant.

Some Bad News About One Of My Favorite Springtime Spots.
http://wnep.com/2015/04/14/fish-killed-off-by-winter/ i went out there yesterday and its worse than what you see in the video. its really a shame. i did see 1 fish swimming but couldnt tell what it was. all of the dead fish were bass, bluegill, and huge grass carp. oddly i didnt see any dead pickerel and i know there are a lot of them in there.

Nepa, North Jersey Ice Out Predictions!

Shimano Clarus
i have the exact rod you speak of and it works great for me. loads up great when casting lighter cranks too.

Fluorocarbon Or Mono??
i never use fluoro for the simple fact that i like to change my line quite often and fluoro costs to much for that. on my non-braided line reels i change my line at least once a month during the season, sometimes more depending on how much river shore fishing i do.

Looking For Good Spinning Reel $100 -$220 Range
i am a big fan of the symetre. i have both the 2500 and 3000 sizes and they are both awesome.

Random Tackle And Organizing Tips
I figured it would be cool for everyone to kinda contribute to a thread giving random tackle and organizing tips so i'll start. I'm anxious to see what everyone else has to say. Take the plastic tubing that often comes on spinnerbait hooks when you buy them, cut to size and put on a straight shank hook for an instant trailer hook.

Is Pro Qualifier My Only Choice?
it may not be the only choice but its a d**n good one. i picked up 2 pro qualifiers a couple weeks ago, including the right handed version of the model you mentioned specifically for spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. They perform exceptionally well.

Is The Bass Pro Tourney Special Baitcaster A Good Reel?
havent used one but i have 2 of the bionic plus baitcasters which is essentially a tourney special with 1 more bearing. they both use the smart cast system which works fairly well. i like mine but im still upgrading to pro qualifiers. i think the extra money is justified especially since pro qualifiers go on sale quite often.

Wacky Rig Hooks
another vote for gamakatsu wide gap finesse hooks. 2/0 mostly but sometimes break out the 1/0 for smallmouth if i seem to be missing some.
-
Finding The Right Reel
i have a 6'6" st croix triumph paired with a shimano symetre 3000fj and i love it. balances well, lightweight, and casts a mile.

What Lure Do You Want But Can't Have Cuz It's Too Expensive Or Discontinued Or Out Of Stock?
mr twister sassy shiner. havent got to use them since the early 90's. combined with an 1/8oz jighead, we used to catch all kinds of fish with them. black with red fleck probably worked the best.

Northeast Pa!
nepa here, plymouth, which is near wilkes barre

Critters Trying To Get Your Lure?
i caught a frog on a spro bronzeye this past weeked. the weekend before a buddy of mine caught a snapping turtle on a jig. its entertaining for sure.

Choosing A Spinning Rod
i just picked up a st croix triumph the other day and its awesome for the price. its $80 retail and seems well worth it so far. lightweight, strong, and very well balanced with my shimano symetre 3000fj. seriously take a look at them, especially since its within your budget.

Bionic Vs Pro Qualifier??
havent used a pro qualifier but im positive they are great reels. i have 2 bionics that are working quite nicely so far. one for cranking, one for jigs and big worms.

High Muddy Water
muddy water often pushes bass up shallow so you have that advantage. use stuff with black or chartreuse that has a good bit of vibration like a spinnerbait with a big colorado blade and ive had pretty good luck using a jig with a trailer, especially rage tail products. to me the 4 keys to muddy water fishing are color, vibration, scent, and a larger profile.

Remembering
ha it was probably me. i still have a zebco 20/30 on a 5'6" bass pro shops mean green stick that i use on seldom occasions, just for nostalgia. that setup has caught me thousands of fish over the years.

River Fishing A Senko
i use wacky rigged senkos on the susquehanna river in pennsylvania all the time. i look for areas with a little weaker current and cast upstream or try to find completely slack water. its been working very well this year.
-
Remembering
i may be a bit younger than some on this post at 33 but i have some of the same sentiments. my dad became a lifetime member back in the mid 80s and i fondly remember flipping the pages of bassmaster magazine glued to all the articles and advertisements. back before there even was an internet i did pretty much all my learning from my father and bassmaster. im glad we have all these great resources at our disposal but the magic seems to be missing.

Anyone Complete Any Of This Year's Fishing Goals?
i only have 2 goals for this year and today i accomplished one by catching more fish this year than last year. the other is to catch a fish that qualifies for a pennsylvania angler award. so have any of you accomplished any of your goals yet?

How Often Do You Clean Your Reels?
mine get ran over externally with a q tip every few trips with either warm water or naptha depending on how dirty they are. i break my reels down and clean, grease, and oil twice a year...once during winter and once around the middle of my fishing season, usually sometime mid july. i fish at least 4-5 times a week, sometimes more, and a lot of it is river fishing so i like to keep my stuff in tip top shape.
