  1. The only way I catch gar is to let them swallow cut or live bait
  2. My fish was 18" and I caught it on a drop shot rod with 6lb test, 30 second fight at the most and I just slid it onto the bank, didn't have to grab it. Maybe since it choked the jerkbait it didn't pull very hard, it's the same way with bass for me, they can't swim well with their mouth wedged open.
  3. When people say "texas rig" they could be talking about a pegged 1oz tungsten weight with a creature on 50lb braid, or a 4" finesse worm with a 1/16oz weight on 6lb test, but usually we know what they mean (or at least I thought I did, maybe I'm wrong)
  4. Sunday I caught 9 in less than 5 minutes on one bush in 3FOW. That doesn't count the fish that swiped/boiled on the bait or spit the hook.
  5. It was so good yesterday that I decided to go back...28 this time
  6. They sure are pretty this time of year
  7. Baits with trebles on them work a lot better for me when the water starts to cool. I throw a lot of squarebills, jerkbaits, and lipless crankbaits. Medium depth cranks have their time too for me in the fall. Spinnerbaits and chatterbaits come into play too more so than in the summer...Chatterbait for me is just a replacement for a spinnerbait when visibility is poor, I haven't figured it out beyond that. I have no idea about the magic rig. I caught a couple stripers on one last November, that's it!
  8. Had to help stack some wood this morning, and afterwords the landowners let me fish their pond, didn't look like much, silted in cow pasture pond but I never pass up a chance to fish! Caught 4 fish in 45 minutes, all of them healthy 2.5-3lb class fish. Bluegill DT4 did the damage This evening I fished a little stretch of river that is a wintering hole, and fish are already stacking up... Nothing much heavier than 2 pounds, but 27 largemouth in 3 hours, all but 4 of them on the bluegill DT4, tons of fun! Cow pond I think they wanted it River fish Yeah they wanted it
  9. With the water starting to cool, I'm throwing baits with trebles a little more than usual......I plan on seeing quite a few of these this fall and winter! Too bad they fight like a wet sock... They make up for it on the table!
  10. Shakes head, crank, jerkbait. They will absolutely knock the crap out of a big glide bait but I haven't hooked any yet.
  11. Big fish do a really good job of shaking a jig out of their head when they are "hot". Sometimes it's better to try and swing them instead of giving them another chance to throw it. I don't know about doing that with a 10lb fish but I do know that I would probably do something way worse if I hooked one that size! Gotta stay after her now!
  12. If you get 3 or more days of stable weather around here, winter fishing can be great
  13. She didn't get the memo about how southern smallmouth are supposed to be shaped
  14. Zoom and Havoc are the mainstays, but now I have to include z man for the ned rig. A 1/16oz wacky jighead and a trick worm has replaced my need for senkos
  15. Ponds are turning over in my area currently. Fish are acting very weird, even Ned couldn't catch them, cavitron caught one dink. Most fish are just sunning themselves and will spook very easily. I don't know if that's what could be happening to you, typically the water gets cloudy and that doesn't sound like the case for you
  16. Get some of the tiny 3/16oz and 1/4oz blades (Johnson Thinfisher I think) they should work if you have shallow water (I'm assuming most of what you fish isn't too deep). Those are what I use to fish ponds when it is COLD. Swap the hooks.
  17. They don't like steel either. I throw it at them..... Around 1600 feet/second
  18. Two guys, two drop shots, two kayaks, one bass.
  19. Quite possibly the greatest BR thread ever. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/139552-something-scary-is-happening/?hl=+raider%20+bigfoot
  20. Those Norman spots should eat all winter
  21. I wanna see that spot
  22. People who eat fish just need to learn how to crappie fish. It's way easier to get "a mess", they taste better, and they do a good job keeping themselves populated.
  23. And if the bass aren't hungry you will catch something on a blade. Bluegill, perch, trout, walleye, catfish.......when it's cold enough to fish a blade I don't care what's biting
  24. Warm water = soft jerkbait Cold water = Hard jerkbait
