  1. This, and vary retrieves, with slow being the preferred, and remember let it fall on slack line, and watch the line closely. If they don't hit that, just Quit.
  2. I found a pair, called Fish finders at Bass pro, and am still impressed. Its the only one I wear now, I leave my cocoons at home...great find for me, as they fit over my glasses, and are only around 20 bucks...
  3. This has been my experience. They do catch juvenile bass pretty well, but if you want bigger bass, there are better options...

Anytime. I know guys that only use a spinnerbait, and they catch fish all year. If I'm covering water to find fish, a white Spinner is good in stained or clear water, will go to a chartreuse skirt if its really stained or muddy. If I'm targeting specific targets, and the fish are tight to cover, or not chasing....go to plastics...Just a general approach.
  5. Not a problem I've ever had, or heard of, but haven't been out of the South for bass. Where does a place exist that doesn't have crawdads?

They are decent on young bass, and I've had a 20 bass morning on the Beavers, but catch bigger bass on other beavers. I found this out, then went back and read the literature, and it seem the juvenile bass see it better, according to the makers...Well, I agree from my tests....
  7. I use the larger owner screw lock, which holds well, so I usually get quite a few fish per bait. In heavy vegetation the legs catch in the V and tear. If this start to happen a lot, punch out/round out the V with some punch, like a 25 or 32 caliber shell casing, and see if that helps..
  8. Great action, but also had one the eyes fell off of, and just won't run right...Great shallow crank on its shallow setting, and that's where it shines. KVD 1.5 is as good on the deeper setting IMO. Knuckle does give you the ability to adjust without retying, but it ain't the end all...
  9. If you want it up off bottom, use a drop shot...I find it much better in smaller ponds, anyway.
  10. It makes a difference for sure, and is definitely a factor. Action is #1, though, but they have to see the action, or mimic the forage, and that's where color comes in. I usually match the color to the water, or make it stand out. In clear water, I want the bait to be almost invisible, at least that's where I start(Watermelon, green pumpkin), in stained, I like Black or Junebug, and red, chartreause in Muddy water. Those that don't think color matters haven't fished a spot with one color, and then nothing for an hour, then changed color, and start picking up fish....Again, not as important as action, but it does matter....
  11. I've used them , esp the beavers, and they do work. . The reason I don't use them anymore was that the fish I caught with them were small. Maybe it was the technique or the area, but after switching to Sweet beavers and Rodents my fish got bigger on average, in the same areas.
  12. That's a great color, here. Kind of like the Back water blue that does so well on a black jig....

Its vanish, I really think they named that stuff after what happens to the fish after the hookset.
  14. I know a guy that only fishes those crazy shads, year round, and he's very good. He just makes short pulls, that really churns the water, with short pauses. My best techniques is the opposite. slow with long pauses.

Could be a defect in one of the rod eyes. Some use a Q-tip any run the eyes to see if there's a crack. Also, check the line, sometimes flouro kinks, and breaks...
  16. Had a good afternoon. Caught 18 on a dark senko-type bait(Texas rigged weightless). Mostly small males. Everything real shallow in protected coves. Only had 2 over 3 lbs. Had to soak it for bites, and they just weren't chasing moving baits where I was...
  17. Palomar is all you need for braid while frogging. Never needed a loop knot, but if you find your braid slipping with some of the newer coated braids, just do a double palomar. That's just another loop around, before passing the bait through the open loop...that ain't slipping, and how I tie braid in all applications.
  18. Moving baits in the wind, like most have said, but recently have done well with a dropshot, by just upping the weight. Just depends on their mood...
  19. Losing fish is definitely something you are doing wrong. I've had these problems, but found out what I was doing. Sometimes, as in my case, I had to go to a smaller diameter hook, when I was finessing, and then switch to a more parabolic rod when cranking. 5 in a row, is when you get that thinking cap on....
  20. Yeah, I was expecting a fluke bait, with a bill..
  21. Ain't nobody competing with White Mike's second bait listed. Thread over.
  22. It will work, but I really don't start till end of April, and remember to vary your retrieve, and don't forget dead-sticking. Start small, I grew up fishing a popping bug on a fly rod for bream, and it wacks 12 inch bass(and sometimes nice one's) anywhere..Then, increase your bait size as you find success. Believe me, when the top water bite is on, and there's not a place it doesn't, its awesome...
  23. Really happy about this..Thats a real good guy. Great day for Bass fishing...
  24. If you are fishing the weedless hooks, I've had the same problems. Its different than the open Gammy's, and you need to develop a wrist-snap hookset. You just can't sweep, or apply pressure like open hooks, they'll come unpinned. When you get a bite, its more of a very sudden snap, not a full jerk, as you have to knock the titanium guard down...Its helped me, a lot.
  25. Nice, whats it called?
