  1. I'd prefer the 7.1 for sure. I like faster reels in a yak to pick up slack line quickly when I'm drifting around to get better hook sets.
  2. I use my megabass xx perfect pitch for a lot of those same techniques in my kayak.
  3. Backlashing is not a problem with spinning reels. It's great reel.
  4. I'm going to use my x7 extreme mission with a td ito or metanium xg. I never used a big worm but I'm going to give it a try this year.
  5. And clean the cork before sealing with Mr clean's magic eraser.
  6. For 3/8-3/4 jigs, I'd go for the perfect pitch. It's also a very fine frog rod. But if you're throwing 3/8 jigs and bladed jigs, then I'd take close look at the diablo spec r and it would give your line up some versatility. I'd call Gary for sure though. He will steer you in the right direction.
  7. Spool bearings and x-ship I believe.
  8. Fish near the other boats. Jerk baits, tubes and senkos work well.
  9. I was in my kayak in some heavy lily pads frogging. I heard that distinctive gulp of a very large fish engulfing the frog and almost immediately the fish starts pulling my yak so I set the hooks. This fish pulls me about 15 feet and as I reel in I see him right next to me, but I also had a bunch of lily pads wrapped around my line. I go to land the bass and my heart is pounding because 2 days before I caught my pb (25" fish) in the same area and it looked like this one was close to the same size. Then all of a sudden I realize the all I have is lilies and the fish is long gone. Mentally I was so let down that I had trouble concentrating the rest of the day because I knew it was a good one that got away.
  10. The curado has better bearings and a double anodized spool. Other than that it's pretty much the same reel.
  11. Check out the daiwa lexa on sale at TW for $69. This is a $130 reel originally with brass gears, 6.3 ratio (lefty which is what I recommend for newbies) and built like a tank.
  12. Megabass F5-75 X7 with my new metanium xg
  13. Sorry brother. Thieves are scum of the earth. Does homeowners insurance cover any of this? I know the sentimental stuff can never be replaced though. A lot of these guys resell on craigslist and ebay. I'd also check any pawn shops.
  14. I agree that braid is the way to go for me on my 103. It was really wild and finicky with fluoro. After I put 30lb braid it became one of my favorites for pitching and casting. I use mine on my jerk bait special for jerk baits, topwaters and shallow to mid cranks. It's one of the smoothest reels I've used.
  15. The hedgehog tool works well, but make sure you use the blunt side first to push the pin flush against the spool shaft then use the skinny side to push it the rest of the way through. Also, put a piece of tape on the spool so the tool doesn't scratch it.
  16. I just got one from japan and looking forward to giving it a try.
  17. I've been using a zillion 50th anniversary with a tdz100m spool. It's built like a tank and can pitch really well. I also use my tdz r+, td ito and curado 51e for pitching. I like a sturdy frame and a spool that's light, shallow and starts up fast for more accurate and low trajectory pitches that land softly.
  18. In what way? I'm curious because it seems perfect for 5" senkos. Actually I don't have a problem casting 4" either.
  19. Are you talking about casting or spinning? My 893 is my favorite senko rod to date. Sensitive and the perfect tip to sling senkos, but I don't use it for wacky rigs. I don't see a reason why it wouldn't work, but I might opt for an 852 if I was wacky rigging exclusively because of the exposed hook.
  20. I'm looking for a fish finder for my kayak and I saw this one. I know nothing about fish finders, so please advise me on whether this is a good choice. Thanks.
  21. Of those 2 combos I'd rather have the nrx/ci4+ combo. The reel is arguably the best in it's price range and the nrx is one of the best production rods available period.
  22. Caught my pb a couple of weeks ago on green pumpkin with 1/4oz t rig in grass near lily pads.
  23. It depends on what weights your throwing, but it sounds like you need the spinner bait special.
