  1. After getting a hook buried in my thumb, I NEVER lip a bass that is hooked with trebles while still in the water. I can't imagine not having a net on board. I also fish waters with a lot of big northern pike, and they are a magnet for all things trebles. Try grabbing a treble hooked snot rocket or gator that isn't completely tired out yet out of the water. No thanks! They make thick rubber, hook-resistant nets that are 100x better for when fishing trebles. I never launch without my net. It makes it so much easier to land fish and I feel so much better while fighting big fish knowing that a net is waiting at the side of the boat. But it can certainly be a detrimite if the netter doesn't know what they're doing. A proper net job should not be lunging for the fish. The net should simply be placed in the water, and the fish should be guided in to it with the rod.
  2. Usually, I'll fish right up through November. But with the truck in need of some TLC, I decided to call it a season and put the boat up for the year. But not before one last outing! I really wanted one more good fish to end the year on. The fall season is in full swing here, with the daytime highs not even cracking 70° and the nights dipping well below 40°. With a strong cold front moving in, I was hoping the fishing would be hot. The pickerel were certainly active. I boated 10-12 big picks, with another half dozen coming off at the boat. But I wasn't there to catch pickerel! In between the pickerel, I boated one 2lb bass and had another come off boatside. We started to head in, as the temps were dropping fast and it looked like rain. On our way in, we stopped and fished a mid-lake brush pile that sticks out of the water. I pitched a @Siebert Outdoors grass jig with a paca craw trailer deep into the brush pile. I felt it hit branches, then bottom, then a hard thump. I set the hook, and stuck the good fish I was hoping to end the year with. This 4lb football-shaped girl should be the last fish of the 2016 season for me!
  3. It's an even year....unfortunately the Giants have already won it.
  4. 90% of my soft plastic fishing is done with 4 brands: GYCB Strike King (Rage) Zoom Culprit I also dabble in Z-Man, Robo and Net Bait.
  5. Showalter has some splainin to do... At least now maybe we can see round 2 of Odor vs Bautista.
  6. Where I fish, there is no "avoiding" pike. All you can do is minimize your chance of getting bitten off. For me, that means thicker monofilament.
  7. Trust the process man....
  8. Carolina rig, or any time there is a split-shot on my line.
  9. Unless Chautauqua has different regulations than the rest of the state, this isn't true. In NY bass season is open year round, but from December 1st until the 3rd Saturday in June it's catch and release only, and artificial lures only.
  10. I've literally set the hook in my sleep more than once. I always wake up so disappointed...
  11. The only time I get a back lash is if I'm not paying attention when the lure hits the water. 1/1000?
  12. Yeah what is there 5 games left? Even if they win out, it may be too late. I'd rather see them in than Toronto or Baltimore
  13. Any that is big enough to get a decent fillet off of. I know a lot of people keep any sized sunfish and fry them up bones and all.
  14. I keep hoping that I'll turn on ESPN and see that this Jose Fernandez thing wasn't real. I can't believe it.
  15. Jose Fernandez killed in a boating accident early this morning. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/17632541/miami-marlins-ace-jose-fernandez-dies-boating-accident
  16. My local F&S has LiveTarget lures for 4$ if you buy 5 or more.
  17. Jimmy Dean, like the sausage guy Jimmy Dean??
  18. I never disagreed with you. In my original post, I clearly stated he may very well be clean. But the fact that he was never disciplined by MLB or that MLB never confirmed this information is completely irrelevant to whether or not he actually tested positive for a banned substance, in this particular case. As far as whether or not substances should be banned is a whole other discussion. The fact is MLB does have a list of banned substances. So as long as there are banned substances and some players use them and some don't, the playing field will never be level. This is what I take issue with more than actual PED use itself. Why is not allowing certain substances foolish? That's silly. If PEDs were allowed, players would be performing at a higher level on average. The result of that would be clean players who don't want to take any substances feeling forced to in order to not fall behind all the juicers. Guys who bust their ***** the right way would lose their jobs to guys who just juice there way to a job. The thought of that is ridiculous. Sports should be about clean, unscripted raw talent. Not arguing, just debating. I always enjoy a good baseball debate. I don't feel these discussions are "foolish". I am a fan of the sport, so I enjoy talking about the sport and debating my opinion about it.
  19. Some more "actual facts". The only reason the info going public was a "leak" is because it was supposed to be an anonymous drug test to show the prevalence of PEDs in the sport. He wasn't disciplined because the results from that test were never supposed to be made public. That's not what that particular test was for. The same reason it was never substantiated by MLB. Why would they confirm information that was never supposed to be made public in the first place? That wouldn't make much sense. His name was one of four that got leaked. Dozens more names who tested positive remained anonymous.
  20. When did I mention anything about the Patriots cheating? I am confused. Did you read anything I wrote?
  21. I have traveled to southern states a lot for work and other reasons. NC SC VA LA TN GA FL These states were all extremely friendly with the exception of Florida. I am not saying Florida in unfriendly, but the parts I have been too don't seem to fit into the whole "southern hospitality" stereotype. I would have to say the friendliest was Georgia. It seemed like every single person I dealt with treated me like an old friend. For someone from NY, at first such outspoken friendliness seemed kind of phony, like everybody was being a smartass. After a couple trips to a couple different states, I realized that the southern hospitality stereotype is actually a thing.
  22. That's according to Ortiz. He was found out to have failed a drug test in 2003, shortly after the time Bonds started clubbing home runs off this planet every at bat and as well as Sosa, A-Rod and all the other early early-2000s known steroid users were playing out of their mind. He tested positive for a banned substance no matter which way you look at, but there is always a chance that the results were wrong. I never buy the silly "I never knowingly took steroids" argument. Not saying Ortiz used this, but thats usually where players take it when they fail a test. I am not saying he is definitely guilty, but I am an absolute purist when it comes to baseball. I like it squeaky clean, and unfortunately for a lot of former and current players, "suspicion of PED use" is enough for me to want them kept out of the HOF. Any failed drug test that doesn't fall into the "known user" category, falls into the "suspicion of use" category. Don't get me wrong, what Ortiz is doing in his age 40 or whatever old age season he is in, is amazing. Last year he had a great season as well, and one would have to assume he is clean now. Nowadays, most players who test positive are no-names who are trying to make it, not stars who already have. Not always this case, with players like Braun, Melky, and Chris Davis (dude just needs his Adderall). Ortiz may very well be clean and well never know for sure. It definitely seems like Ortiz has gotten a free pass that NOBODY else gets when it comes to alleged PED use. Maybe its because he never fell off when he was exposed. I'm not hating on Big Sesame, just giving my $0.02. Like I said, what he has been doing in his late 30s and early 40s is pretty ridiculous.
