Spinnerbait reel
Yup, this is exactly why I always have a 25lb fluorocarbon leader on my spinnerbaits. I need braid for the lack of stretch especially because I fish spinnerbaits in thick weeds, but the limpness of braid will cause it to wrap around the blades and split rings every cast.

Been real hazy here as well. Not as smoky as it was in 2023 but you can definitely see the haze in the air. Smells like a barbecue.

Spinnerbait reel
I usually fish my spinnerbaits slow, often times as slow as I can while still getting the blades to turn. I much prefer a 5:1 as it really helps me slow down and keep that bait towards the bottom where I want to fish it.

Luka to the Lakers
If we’re just talking clutch, I’ve never seen a player who can seemly will in a winning bucket at the buzzer over and over like Haliburton. Horry has the career, even if he may or may not have been riding the coattails of Hakeem, Duncan, and Kobe. Oops, did I say that out loud?

Luka to the Lakers
Yeah, but I’m still taking Haliburton!

The legend of Haliburton just keeps growing. Never seen a player so clutch.

10.20 largemouth on Cayuga Lake in New York
@softwateronly I believe it’s the round gobies from the Great Lakes. They’ve been confirmed in Cayuga. May not be the only factor but probably the biggest one.

First tick of the year
@Darth-Baiter don’t know. Parasites usually serve some niche. In ticks case, I’m guessing it’s to limit populations of mammals? I know birds and possums eat them. Found one crawling on my shirt today while doing yard work. Scalded my self in the shower. Still checking myself incessantly.

10.20 largemouth on Cayuga Lake in New York
Crazy that this fish is about the same length as my NYS PB, just 4 pounds heavier.

Wow. Cayuga keeps pumping out giants. NY’s LM record is gonna fall again soon.

@Fishlegs I actually came across a Bill Dance branded hat the other day at Sierra Trading post. It wasn’t a Tenn hat, but it was his brand. Wishing I grabbed it, I could use some Bill Dance mojo this spring!

Fished about 4 hours this morning in the cold and fog. Had a decent day. Topwater was not very effective, but the Rage Bug was. Took the most fish and the biggest at 18.5 and 3-8: The loon couple decided to follow me around. Maybe looking for a fish handout. Air was mid 30s at launch and water was at 60. Those temps will go way up this week with a couple days forecasted in the 90s. I had a peaceful morning on the water and fishing was decent. I was able to re-up on my bass thumb

Three years ago today
River seems like a lucky pup, and you seem like a lucky owner! Good on you for adopting him and giving him a great life! Rescue dogs are the best. My girlfriend and I have a pack of three rescues and they are our family.

@Bazoo man I guess I’ll stop complaining about finding a couple dozen over half a decade! A dozen at a time is insane.

Not enough time to take the boat out today, so I walked the bank of a local lake for a few minutes. What better way to ring in June than with weedless frog fish? Tomorrow I’ll be taking the boat out on my favorite lake. Hopefully I’ll be doing that a few times this week.

Great to see you getting fishing time with the wife. Forecast for this week is hot here as well. High 80s and lots of sun. Should be able to get a lot of fishing time. Hitting a lake close to home tomorrow morning. It has good fish but is my least favorite kind of lake to fish. No structure, no hard cover, sloppy mats of weeds. I hope it’s too early to have to punch. Weedless frogs should be in play though.

First tick of the year
@gim the lesser winters is the only common denominator I can think of. This last winter in upstate NY was brutal but short, and I was wondering how that would affect the tick prevalence. I hope I don’t already have my answer. We have a contract with a pest control service to do an annual spray in the backyard that’s meant to kill ticks, but they don’t do it until June. Don’t know what they spray or if it actually helps, nor do I have any idea where I picked this latest one up. Feels like an uphill fight against these things.

First tick of the year
Just pulled the first tick off of me of 2025. Felt a persistent itch behind my knee, and assumed it was a tick. And I was right. I’m a magnet for these d**n things. I’ve had probably 10 or so attached to me the last 4-5 years, as well as a dozen more I’ve found crawling on my clothing. Worst of it was when I woke up in the middle of the night “sore” in the junk, and wouldn’t ya know it. Tick attached to the tip. No lie. That was 2022 i believe. Whenever I’m doing work outside or in any kind of brush or long grass I always take those clothes off and immediately go into laundry. I use tick-specific bug spray. I visually check myself everyday. I don’t know what else to do, but I do know that when I was kid playing outside every day, ticks were never even a thought. Never had one on me, never heard of anyone else having one on them. Didn’t even know what they were. These days it feels like they are everywhere. Anybody have advice on how to combat these nasty suckers? Im about to start taking my dogs monthly Simparica lol!

Should Have Listened to the Old Guy... do you?
I actually met my main fishing buddy at a ramp. We were both getting off the water at the same time and noticed we had the same boat. Got to talking and next thing you know, 1.5 years later we were going to Baccarac chasing monsters. I think we were both surprised at the other’s enthusiasm for bass fishing. Normally I am not very chatty at the ramp. If people ask, I usually keep it vague. And generally, the only advice I hear at a ramp or dock is “I saw a bunch of huge fish over there” (always carp), or “if you use worms you’ll catch more fish”.
