  1. This is my thought as well. Maybe 5-6’? That’s why I use heavier spinnerbaits. With the right rod angle, it’s easy to fish a heavy spinnerbait near the top of the water column. It’s a lot harder to get a light spinnerbait to stay down deeper. If I’m doing my usual slow rolling a double willow, I think 5’ would be about it for a 3/8oz. If I’m throwing a 3/8oz spinnerbait, I’m probably targeting shallow woody cover, and probably not trying to get it to run as deep as possible.
  2. I put a little Thai fish sauce in a lot of the food I cook. Adds such a great savory flavor. But holy hell, do not smell the stuff before putting it in the food!
  3. BTL...Comin at ya!
  4. I recommend Yo-Zuri Hybrid. It’s very manageable on spinning gear. Handles similar to a limp nylon.
  5. Whole lotta knowledge and bass wisdom here!
  6. I do almost the same. A little smear on the mustache and it clears me right up.

  8. For jigs I like to have some of each weight up to 3/4oz, in natural colors (greens, browns, oranges), dark colors (black, blues, reds,) and bright colors (silvers, white, chartreuse, pinks, purples). I do agree though with those who say color importance is overstated. I don’t think it’s meaningless, but I think other factors are more important and make a difference more often than color does.
  9. Love me some canned shrimp for a Mac salad
  10. My PB was just over 16”. It smashed a popper. I was messing around walking the bank of the pond at my parents camp trying for a couple bass. Didn’t know there were crappie in there until I got that one.
  11. Same for me. I love frying up some crappie. My favorite freshwater fish to eat without a doubt. But every single one I catch is incidental while bass fishing. The few times I’ve gone out targeting crappie, i blank on em and fill the stringer with bluegills and pumpkinseeds.

    Hawg Alert!
  13. Do you mean the biggest tackle junkie? Or the one who pushes people the most to become tackle junkies?
  14. I target shallow woody cover (or any hard cover) early spring, especially on sunny afternoons. Jigs, T-rigged craws or creatures, wacky rigs or ned rigs. And always a spinnerbait.
  15. Rage Menace or Baby Craw. Sometimes I’ll use a ribbon tail worm as well. I bite about half the body off all of these.
  16. I find schools of smallmouth herding schools of perch over 30-40’ of flat bottom somewhat often.
  17. I’ve had several of those moments of having to collect myself before I get back to fishing. Usually happens with a PB. Makes me think of the TacticalBassin video where Matt tells the story of when he caught a 13 pounder. He got to the lake, fished for a few minutes until he caught the 13lber, and was so excited he immediately packed up and went home ? I could so see myself doing that, only to go right back a little while later.
  18. Only things I need are some spools of line. 40lb Sufix 832, 10lb Seaguar InvisX and Yo-Zuri Hybrid. That’ll turn into a pile of other stuff I don’t need of course. Got my eye on a couple rods and reels as well.
  19. Unreal. He was a lot calmer than I would have been. I would probably struggle to focus on fishing after that first 8lber.
  20. Heavy spinnerbait! I love slow rollin a 3/4-1oz double willow along the bottom in deep grass.
  21. While the show was definitely made dramatic for TV purposes, I think most people are in agreement that Jeremy Wade is a pretty good stick.
  22. I grew up watching Bill Dance and Roland Martin, so those 2 really stick out in my mind. I think watching them really enforced my love of bass fishing. I will never forget the theme songs for those 2 shows. Not many days go by without me singing them at least once. I was always appreciative of Aaron Marten’s finesse, northern style of fishing. I felt like I could really relate to that. His calm, soft spoken demeanor was a welcome contrast to some of the more animated folks on the tours. Made his information much more digestible. RIP. Honorable mention goes to Larry Czonka. I know, he’s a famous football player, not fisherman. Not sure how many remember his show “North to Alaska”, where he would fish and hunt the whole state, but I was hooked on that show. Watching it before I went to school or any chance I got really helped foster a love for the outdoors and being a sportsman as well.
  23. Then you’ll have to move onto the next goal, a teener! Heck of a day. Those are some seriously healthy fish. Its cool seeing the difference in shape between fat bass of different species. A fat LM, a fat SM, and a fat spot are all shaped differently.
