The Beer Is Brewing, The Trash Is Flying, and The Race For The Pennant Is On!
They haven’t announced if Strider or Morton is pitching game 3. Strider hasn’t pitched in a few weeks. @Glenn that mariners loss was tough to watch. Hopefully they bounce back. Pretty much every baseball fan that doesn’t live in Texas is pulling hard for the Ms.

Still No Pike… but Some Nice Bass
The Hudson River in Troy has lots of bank access, from the dam - south. There is a really good spot right at the base of the dam, accessible from the Green Island side. Nice parking lot too. You can walk the bank for a good ways when tide is low. I’ve caught many smallmouth and stripers there, including some really nice ones. Current is a little swift there. Rensselaer Lake (6 Mile Waterworks) on Fuller Road also has good bank access. I’ve pulled some decent largemouth there against the bank from my boat, so fishing from the bank should be good.

49 pitches through 5…yeah that’s just what the Phillies need. Braves gotta start getting longer at bats and get that pitch count up.

I agree. Pitchers duels are my favorite to watch. Real nail biters. As Harris just missed a home run to left.

Brag about your state's bass fishing.
Haha! I’ve had to bust out the wacky rig as a skunkbuster a few times, but it’s a streak I’d like to keep going!

Brag about your state's bass fishing.
St. Lawrence River, Lake Erie and Ontario, Lake Champlain, the Finger Lakes. Some of the countries top bass waters are in NYS. I can catch largemouth bass in urban ponds in the state’s Capitol, or go to the Adirondack mountains and chase smallmouth in ultra clear water with some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. Or I can float a river and catch both kinds of bass. There is fertile bass water all over this state. Haven’t been skunked since at least 2016. NYS is without a doubt one of the top states for bass fishing. And bass arent even the most targeted species. More for me

Tentative start time 7:30. I went to my folks house to watch the game with my Dad, hopefully it happens!

The Beer Is Brewing, The Trash Is Flying, and The Race For The Pennant Is On!
I’ve been watching the Braves since I was a toddler (thank god for TBS) and as long as i can remember, day games seem to be tough for them. When I saw that noon start time, my heart sank. The longer the delay, the better today. Fun Fact, I live in the same town that Ian Anderson is from (and Kevin Huerter of NBA), and my girlfriend went to the same high school as him, 2 years ahead of him.

eating Oatmeal.
Now this I could get into. When I became health conscious several years ago, I had oatmeal for breakfast every single day for 2 years. Little honey, maple syrup, blueberries. It’s good but I got so sick of it the thought of oatmeal makes me want to puke now. But savory oatmeal sounds delicious. Gonna have to try it. I’ve been looking for ways to get oatmeal back into my diet.

It's Always A Little Sad
Seems like every year after I put all my gear and boat up for the winter, I have to pull it all out on a nice day. 6-7 years ago, we had a 70+ degree day on Christmas Eve, you better believe I took the boat out! So now I don’t put my gear up until I have confirmed frozen lakes. That can be anywhere from Dec 1st to Jan 1st.

Grilled bacon wrapped walleye...
I recommend par-cooking the bacon before wrapping, otherwise you’ll have overdone walleye wrapped in rubbery raw-ish bacon. I’d par-cook the bacon for a minute or 3 just until the fat begins to render. Then wrap the filet and secure with a toothpick or tuck both ends under the filet. This is how I cook bacon wrapped salmon, but walleye doesn’t take quite as long to cook.

Still No Pike… but Some Nice Bass
Some nice looking bass there. Im in NYS as well, and this year the pike seemed to have disappeared. I don’t target pike, but usually I get a few dozen accidental pike every year, with a few good ones mixed in. This year, I’ve only had one pike bycatch, and it was about 18” long. Very weird.

River guys - do you use strictly moving baits in the fall or do you mix Ned in occasionally?
Dragging a ned rig on bottom in deep pools should never be overlooked IMO. Any time of year. Just because moving baits work well this time of year doesn’t mean slower baits won’t. I catch lots of bass this time of year with jigs, T rigs, ned rigs and other soft plastic offerings.

Rod / Reel / Line for Worms and Jigs
Worms/Texas rigs and jigs are definitely a good starting point when getting into bass fishing IMO. Medium heavy vs heavy will largely depend on what type of cover you’re fishing in. Most MH and H rods will be able to handle worms and jigs. If you’re throwing into heavy cover opt for the H, if the cover is more moderate or wood, opt for the MH. Haven’t used those specific rods or reels both I know both are highly touted on here and elsewhere. For gear ratio for worms and jigs, the faster the better in my opinion. Since the rod is what moves the baits for these technique, there isn’t a reason to use a slower gear ratio. You want to be able to reel up slack as fast as possible when you feel a bite, so an 8:1 is ideal for this. Just my experience

It's Always A Little Sad
Yep. Days are shorter, frost on the lawn in the mornings. Still great opportunities to catch fish, especially quality, but the season is definitely winding down. Another 5-6 weeks, and I’ll be stripping the line off my reels and sending them into DVT. Always sad. Hopefully we have thaw by April 1st.

Post a photo a day!
Bobcat? Very cool! Really vivid pattern. Made me think ocelot at first until i looked at the head. You guys have ocelot wild down in Texas right? Any kind of wild cat sighting is pretty rare. I’m jealous. There is a decent population of bobs in the mountains where I fish but I’ve never been lucky enough to see one. Probably the most elusive animal in NYS.
