Massive Hooksets
Like @T-Billy stated, sometimes when fishing heavy cover you really gotta stick em. To drive that heavy wire hook home, usually through a soft plastic bait or weed guard, but also to keep that fish’s head turned up so it can’t bury in the slop. With light wire hooks in light or no cover, and a quick sweep to the side is better. Different situations call for different hooksets.

Uses for paddletail swimbaits without the tail
My first thought was “they’d probably work as a ned rig”.

Spinnerbait: Why 3/4oz Dual Willow?
I’ve started throwing 3/4oz Spinnerbaits this year more than any other weight. The primary reason for it is this; by far my most successful technique with Spinnerbaits is slow rolling a double willow on the bottom, and ripping them through the grass. It’s much easier to keep the bait along the bottom with 3/4oz, as well as come through the weeds. If im fishing shallower water with less vegetation, I’ll use 3/8-1/2oz, but most of my Spinnerbait fishing is in situations where a 3/4oz is most efficient.

Fall Top Water Set Up ?
Topwater here is right on the verge of being done for the year, but not quite. I like a walking bait this time of year, like a Skitterwalk or a DogX. But the way the pickerel were slamming the walking baits yesterday i switched to a popper (PopMax) and worked it slow. Pickerel ignored it and I was able to get a few bass. Hard to get a bass when pickerel would slam the walking bait every single cast. I throw poppers on a 6’6” M-F casting, and walkers on a 6’8” M-XF casting both with 10lb Berkley Trilene XL.

Movin' baits are ON for fall ?
Spinnerbaits and topwater for me. Soon that topwater will be replaced with lipless cranks and jerk baits.

Thanks. It truly is beautiful up here in the mountains this time of year. Todays trip help numb the pain of the Braves’ early exit ?

Pond fishing
A weedless frog, T-rigged craw or creature with a 1/8oz bullet, 3/8 oz spinnerbait or wacky rigged senko is what I would throw.

Decided to go to a “big fish” lake today. Fishing can be tough here, but the possibility of a new PB exists with every cast at this lake. It was 34 degrees at launch, and water temps were 53-54. Typical late season bassin conditions. It wasn’t until the sun made its way over a mountain that the bass started biting. No great size to any of em, but they were all fat and healthy. A few on spinnerbaits and even got one topwater on the PopMax in the cold water. In between the bass, I probably caught 25 pickerel. Couldn’t keep them off the line. This lake has true lunker largemouth but didn’t run into any today. But had a lot of fish, beautiful scenery and wildlife in the way of otters, a bald Eagle, blue heron, and some deer.

Never seen a luckier baseball team than the Phillies in all my life. Or a worse umpiring crew than these goons.

I wonder what the score would be if this home plate umpire wasn’t so terrible ?

And Snitker chooses to walk Shwarber again. The guy who hit .220. Not sure why he wants to lose the series.

The offense just isnt there. This is not the same team from last year. I don’t think they even have a 3 ball count yet.

Yeah, and surprising for it to be that size this time of year. From what I understand they spawn in spring up here, so you’d think a fish born this year would be bigger than 1.5”, but striped bass are not my expertise either lol

Yeah, the Hudson. Big ones make their run up the river in April-May and all congregate around this area. Little 10-18” fish are here year round. I’ve never caught one this tiny though.

That decision to walk Schwarber was one of the worst decisions I’ve ever seen.

Winter 2022-23
It’s on the horizon for me too. Frost almost every morning now but no actual snow yet. But it won’t be long. Thank goodness my snow removal contracts don’t start until December.

Little guy on the right is the youngest member in our pack of 3. He’s a year and a half, only 25 pounds but looks big in pictures. He decided to lay down on the head of my old girl, on the left, who turns 13 next month. But she’s patient with him.

Still No Pike… but Some Nice Bass
Thats the one. The “too shallow for fishing” thing is nonsense. Ignore that. Place has plenty of bass in it. Like @KSanford33 said it’s usually good for a few bass, and you can walk and fish the entire bank.
