Favorite Cologne
Platinum by Chanel.....real fancy. My girlfriend bought it for Christmass two years ago, and I've got well over three quarters of the bottle left. I don't wear cologne very often.

See, I gotta disagree Roger. I dont feel like a 3lb pickerel could hang with a northern of the same size. They just dont have the same intensity, at least in my experience. Oh and I've yet to catch a 15lb pike, which I can imagine is nothing short of electrifying. I caught my first muskie this september. 43" of violent fight. Can't wait to stick a northern that size!!!!

Man I hate pickerel! You guys really like them things? Pike on the other hand, they are fun, but pickerel......WEAK! ;D If they fought as well as a pike theyd be cool, but pickerel just dont seem to have the "anger" a pike has when hooked. Sorry just my 2 cents. I didnt mean to hate on your pickerel parade!

Other species you'd like to fish for ???
Here in ny I have good fishing for just about any freshwater gamefish I want- bass(smallies in particular), n. pike, walleye, muskie, trout&salmon, etc. But what I really want to do right now is fly fish in the shallow flats down in the Caribbean for bonefish! Man that looks like fun! With winter bearing down on us right now, the Caribbean sounds like a good idea....but alas, I ain't got the dough to go! Oh yeah, and I a pretty lousy fly caster, but I can work on that :

What could I do to convince you ???
Im pretty sure it wasn't counterfit as I got it from Cabelas. But I didnt try the crazy glue, which i have to admit I'm not "crazy" about, you don't need to do that with mono!

What could I do to convince you ???
I tried power-pro (50lb) on one of my surf rods for a week in May, and was so dissappointed in it I've been afraid to spool it on any of my bass rods. The stuff frayed constantly, and broke, constantly. Knots also seemed to like to slide out of it. Now this is just casual "chuck the bait and wait while I have few beers" surf fishing, so I wasn't asking a whole lot from braided line, just that it didn't break. But it did. Alot. I couldn't imagine trying to fish this stuff for bass and put the demands on it that I do on mono, it would be a nightmare. But I waill give it a shot, though. I have to! If its as sensetive as everyone says it is its got to be worth a shot, plus I 'm not going to throw it out cause it's too expensive!

Casting tip quiestion....
I cast the way you describe most of the time, at least when I remember to. The only difference I find is that I never accidentally knock the handle with my hand on a hard long cast. I don't know how it happens, but when I cast spool side up, I will occassionally do it and it engages th spool, violently stops the cast, and the reel usually makes a very unpleasant sound. >

The Type of Water I usually Fish is..
I fish a 308 acre man made as well as a river (the ol' susquehanna) for the majority of my time on the water. I will occasionally hit a few 5-10 acre ponds and small creeks just to mix it up. I like to get to large lakes when I can, like Onieda, Cayuga, etc.

Breaking concentration
I agree with CJ, not getting bit throws me out of my game more than anything else. It'll cause my to speed up even when I know I should be slowing down. Getting bit by bugs doesnt bother me much, unless its really intense, like getting eaten alive intense. Its my fault though, I never put on bug spray when I fish, I just can't bring myself to do it.

The fish that got away stories.....
A smallie story here ... one that'll never forget. I was fishing the Susky river up here in NY this summer, mid to late july. It was a good three weeks or so after the ridiculous flood we had in June, and the water was still high by normal standards. The first part of the evening I spent fishing by myself from shore/wading, but was keeping in contact with a guy I met the day before, who was fishing aways downstream. With less than an hour of solid daylight left, we decide to meet up and go to a spot Ive never been to before. So we drive down the highway a few miles, and pull into a rest stop right on the river. We make our way down to the shore and the water is crazy..Rock bottom, lots of ripples, and the current is fast, I mean cooking. I tie on a craw colored Storm Deep Wart and start casting up current and grinding it into the rocks. Then, on the second or third cast it happens.... I was at the end of my retrieve, the crank was about 10 to 12 feet away from me, down stream now because the current was so fast, and I get hung up. So I let the crank float out of the snag, then sweep my rod toward me, cranking once or twice, and it stops dead, about three feet directly in front of me, in what was probably about 2-3 ft of water. Instantly my rod loads, and I mean LOADS. I look down to see the biggest smallie Iv'e ever seen come erupting out of the water. It came up about as high as my waist, curled sideways showing me its entire flank, followed by its tail fin, which was easily the size of a ping-pong paddle. AS it crashed back into the water right at my feet I hollered "oh $H#T". I was just dumbfounded. My rod loaded again, like an Ugly Sick in the advertisment, and I came back to my senses: "losen the drag you idiot," I thought to myself. So I start fumbling for the star and....she came unbuttoned. The sheer force was too much for the hookset I had on her and my Deep Wart came flying back at my face. This all happened in about two seconds. My buddy missed it, but he heard it, it sounded like a bowling ball being thrown into the water. So how big was she? I can tell you this. My biggest weighed smallie was just under 4.5 pounds, but I have caught bigger fish when I didn't have a scale handy, probably about 5 to 5.5 pounds....Any of these fish could have easily hid BEHIND this fish and you would have never seen them. 7 pounds? 8? Who knows. Needless to say I didn't sleep very well that night and to this day I have the memory of that giant tail fin waving bye-bye to me burned into my brain. If I only got to that drag star on time..or even just dropped the rod and caught her with my bare hands mid jump, I would know the answer to that. PS sorry for the long post, but I REALLY had to get that one off my chest.....

Help when fishing a shallow creek?
Youre on track with the spinners. I like to use Mepps Agilias, size 3 or 4 unskirted, in gold or silver. Cast them upstream and bring them back with the current past any current break, be it a large rock, log whatever. Undercut or steep banks with good current also produce. Latley however, Ive been slaying them with a green pumpkin w/ black flake Fat Ika (thanks to RoadWarrior) rigged weightless. Just cast upstream, let sink, and then have the current roll the Ika along the bottom. Whenever it stops, let it rest up to a minute, then gently lift your rod tip to free it from the bottom so it can keep on bouncing along. Ive been spankin them the past couple of weeks in the Susquehanna river and joining creeks. Thanks again RW!!! As far as the Ika as the Magic Bait.........I BELIEVE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Largemouth or Smallmouth?
Smallmouth hands down, only once in awhile do LM even compare, and Ive caught plenty of both to give a sound judgement. They zig-zag, will charge you, hurl themselves three feet in the air and thats all in the first two seconds. Heres a quick example of their power. I was fishing with my buddy from work, spent the day catching several 2 to 5 pound LMs, had a great time and had some good fights, but hadnt caught a single smallie. So we moved up onto a rocky bar and lo and behold, I can see that black tail fin flickering by a large boulder. I make a cast, and I;m hooked up, and its a smallie. After a series of jumps, it dives under the boat and shoots out the other side heading to deep water. So I swing around to face it and let the rod load up and put pressure on her to stop her, but she keeps going...dragging us with her. Thats a 16 inch, two poundish fish, that towed a 14 foot aluminum rowboat, me(180pounds), my buddy(Id guess 220) and a slew of gear and coolers!! I let her drag us about ten yards and stopped her, turned to my friend and said "thats why I love smallies!" Talk about towin capacity...Ford and Chevy have nothin on a smallie!!!! Oh yeah and I forgot....Ive caught them up to a hair over 4 pounds and have hooked into one (bout three weeks ago) that was probably close to six and have to say if you've never caught one thats 3lbs or more you must....itll make your heart pound out of your chest

how often do you lie?
Dont feel bad at all dude. I wouldnt. Your the one who got off his butt, got permission and found the bass in the ponds, why should he reap the beneifits of your labor? I would have done the same thing. I say lie your azz off when it comes to keeping a new found hole to your self. If you told him you would have been a sucker in my opinion. Besides, if he really wnted to know wha tthe fishing is like, he should get up and try it himself.

whats tougher
I hear ya senile about the fingers! Hey all you southerners, I'm sure you know about flippin grass mats, docks and what not, but have you ever tried flippin sheets of ice? NOw thats hardcore! Seriously though, I gotta move down south.

whats tougher
I live in upstate ny, so cold to me is 30 degrees or below. Ever try fishing for bass in 15 degree weather? I have.......I'd fish the hottest most humid day anywhere over that. You have to pick the ice out of your line guides every cast, that is if your fingers work.... I gotta move down south

Would this approach be productive?
I plan on really learning jigs this summer (Ive caught a few fish on them but nothing major). Is there any difference in detecting a bite on a semi slack line with a jig than with say a tube? Seems to me it would be the same thing at least on the drop, right? If so I cant wait to try them because I'm good with the slack line technique with soft plastics so I feel it would be a comfortable transition.

Standing Timber and docks
yeah I forgot about bouncing it off the dock. Sometimes that really turns them on when nothing else will. You would think the sound would spook em but it seems to get them interested when they're inacttive. Also be aware that bass arent the only fish that live under docks. Blugill, rockies, sunnies, etc. can get inbetween you and mr bassface. Learn the difference in feeling the bites...if it goes tap tap-its usally crap crap- pull your bait away from the blugill and sometimes the bass will see it and you know what happens next...

Standing Timber and docks
I fish docks alot for smallies on a lake in upstate ny. Usually a tube (I like gitzits but most any will do) will SLAY them. Flip it under or to the side and if they dont hit it on the fall, wait. If you dont get a bite keep waiting! Sometimes it can take 30 seconds to a minute before they decide to pick it up. If after a minute you dont get a look, jig or shake the tube a couple times and wait some more. IF you still dont get a bite they are either not going to (try that dock later) or there is nothing there. Just be patient.

Friend wont touch fish
Buy one of those pink Barbie Zebcos with the plastic fish attached to the line. When he wants to fish with you tell him he cant use the Loomis because thats what the big boys use to catch big boy fish and that u got the perfect rod for a sweet little girl like him.

Caught without a License
Its simple- suck it up, and buy a liscence. Theres no excuse, NONE, for fishing without one. Dont like the punishments? too bad, buy the liscence. I only fish once or twice a year- too bad, buy the liscence. But they took all my equipment! AAWW little baby, there there, u should have bought a liscence huh? :'(
