The boat I bought didn't come with a keel guard and I need (want) to get one. My question is, are all keel guards made equal? I plan on installing it myself and I see that there are at least 2 "main" brands. There is Keel Guard by Megaware and Keel Shield by GatorGuard. So, is there one better than the other? Im sure I will have more questions when my brain turns on a little more. Thanks for your help in advance.

Hahaha when i test drove it the fastest I went was 53mph knowing that wasn't WOT but it was fast enough for me and that is really fast on the water. I like to fish to much just to go boating. 201 easier to sell because others liked it, or because you were glad to see it go? I don't plan on selling it for a long time.

Thank you for the advice. I will take it I know a few guys that could help me learn the ropes. I ran it 3 times before I bought it. The owner did give me a basic lesson but not a full on. The good thing it has a hot foot and trim on the wheel. I don't plan on having it WOT just to save the motors life.

I believe I will be taking a boater course, not because I have to because I want too. Now with the DIY keel guards are all made equal or does one stand out more than the other. I might make another thread to maybe get more input. I searched the forums and didnt find much other than getting one was a very good idea.

Thank you all for the nice words. It's pretty clean for the age. And yeah the new trolling motor is 70 pounds. So yeah I wll be taking her easy. The whole trolling motor standing up is going to be very new to me. Also, with fishing trolling motor lakes only can anyone give any tips on loading and off loading?

I bought this 1996 Stratos 201 pro xl with a 225 Johnson venom a few weeks ago. I can't wait to get it out on the water and catch some fish. This is my 2ed boat 1st boat was a 11'11" jon boat with a 35pound trolling motor. Its an upgrade.

You might get more help if you post or have this topic moved to the boat section. I would try to use the most lightest and strongest matieral. Aluminum frame and aluminum top side. It might cost more but it won't rot or rust.

I'm very close to buying a boat. The current set up is one depth finder a lowrance hds 5. That is mounted on the console. I am surfing the web looking for a good bow depth finder and saw the 360. Now I understand that you have to get at least get a 798ci, 898, 998, 1198. So all in all I guess I want to know are those units worthy? And is the 360 imaging worth 1000 bucks? I am sure I want to get side imaging and maybe a combo if that exists. Thanks for any help.

2 years ago I was introduced to Bandit crankbaits the 100, 200 series and square bill. They are a great product, they stay true in the waddle (lol),I have caught 100's of fish with them over the 2 years. Also, they catch bluegills and catfish, and I'm sure other types too. I also like the deep diving kvd models too.
