Least Versatile Lure?
Topwater.....most fun bait in the world to fish but if they ain't biting on them...forget it

Left Handed Retrieve To Right Handed
I worried about doing it "right" for about 10 seconds when I started fishing seriously and then I realized that I didn't give a crap about doing it "right" and now I do it the way I'm most comfortable. If you enjoy what you're doing and you're catching fish, nothing else matters

Left Handed Retrieve To Right Handed
Hand switcher here for both Spin and BC. Cast right hand, switch hands, reel right hand. Don't even think about it. Tried reeling with left hand on spinning gear...couldn't do it.

Well I Done Goofed
Probably the dumbest thing I ever did was to tie on a new Bucktail jig that I HAD JUST RECEIVED in the mail. Custom made...my design, etc. Tied it on, cut off the tagline and threw it in the water. As it was entering the water, I noticed there was no line attached to it. Yep..........did NOT cut the tagline. Cut the main line. Waded out to try to find it (bank fishing on a very nice JANUARY day..water was very cold) but never found it. Didn't get a single cast out of it. All I could do was laugh and go home to warm up. DUMB ARSE!!!

Favorite Retrieve For Popper
Depends. If the water is pretty open I do a Pop, pop, pop pause. I like to steer them around in lilly pads where it's more of a hard twitch in open water pockets and not really moving it forward. I get crushed doing that and holy smokes is it fun.. Don't do this with expensive lures.....you will lose them

Well I Done Goofed
I've NEVER done anything stupid like this!! (said as sarcastically as possible). I've also NEVER tried to cast a spinning reel without opening the bail!

First Time With A Baitcaster
Oh yes....it's coming. I backlashed so hard the other day it tore the rod out of my hand. and THEN the fun started!! But...you dig it out...laugh it off...and go back to fishing.

Are Expensive Lures Worth The Money?
Does a $100k workshop filled with the most advanced woodworking tools automatically turn you into a master craftsman? No.....it means you're a fool with too much money. It makes a master craftsman more efficient. IMHO, it's the same way with fishing tackle. I'm an avid hobby fisherman. I, like anyone else, drool over $800 reels and $400 swimbaits but I don't buy them. Can I afford them? Sure, if I really wanted them but I don't. I'm not in a good part of the country for them and they would be like bringing a howitzer to a boxing match. Wrong tool. Not to mention I fish in some pretty gnarly places and I lose a lot of tackle. I put my money in tackle and equipment that is APPROPRIATE to the type of fishing I do. I have some stuff that only gets used when I go up into Minnesota and fish for Northerns. It doesn't get used in Missouri because it's expensive (to me) and isn't appropriate here. Right tools for the job at hand and for the skill of the technician. I'm an "ok to decent" bass fisherman. I have decent equipment. My terminal tackle, line, plastics, jigs etc are generally very good. THAT is where I get the most for my money. Just my .02 p.s. I used to work for Caterpillar calibrating electronic equipment. We would get O-scopes in for calibration that I knew were $50 -60k. I'd call the owner to ask a question and the answer I would inevitably get was "we just use it to look for a trace". In other words, they needed a lightbulb with 2 leads on it. They GIVE those away at some electrical supply stores or you could make one in about 30 seconds. Right tool for the job at hand

Beginner Baitcasting Reel
I think the BPS Pro Qualifer is a good first BC reel. You get a lot of reel for the money. I would suggest that if you are new to the BC world...do NOT buy one now. Wait until this fishing season is over. Why? You will be excited to use it...you will take it to your favorite fishing hole and immediately start back-lashing the hell out of it. you'll get frustrated and either A.) throw it in the lake (if you're like me) or B.) put it down and never use it again. Wait until the winter and you're bored and have time to practice. Spool it up with the cheapest mono you can find and practice, practice, practice. Dig out the backlashes. Use different size plugs, tune it, and practice some more. Come NEXT spring, take 3/4 of that old mono off (you need some for backing) and put on Power Pro Slick 8 and THEN head out to your favorite fishing spot. You'll be an old pro. just my .02 ps There are a TON of GOOD videos on using a BC. Watch them. Learn it....know it...live it

Best Budget Spinning Setup?
President matched with a Shimano Sellus. Less than $100 and you have a very nice set up that I've caught many many LMB's on and will throw lighter stuff very nicely.

Mind Running Endless
I'm 47 and no boat. Do I want one?..sure. Can I afford one? Yes.......is it a LIFE priority? Uhhhmmm....no. I'll get one when the time is right. My life at 30 was a ton harder than it is today. Less money.....little kids. It gets easier

Best Tackle For Gift?
I'd get him a gift card to one of the smaller jig producers that he maybe doesn't know about like Sieberts or NorthStar. I'd be thrilled with either as would about anyone on here.

How Soon Do You Go Fishing Once The Ice Starts Melting?
I was pulling a jig off an ice shelf into open water 2 days ago. That soon enough for you?

Right Vs Left Handed Retrieve
I'm a hand switcher. Even with spinning reels. I can't cast (well) with left arm and I can't reel (well) with my left hand. but I also can't hook set with my right arm. RH Baitcaster....LH spinning reel. The hand switch just happens are part of my casting motion. Works for me.

Running Braid W/ Leader On Casting Reel
I use PPSS 8 with an FC leader. Fish a lot of woody lakes and lose a lot of jigs. Rather lose some FC than the braid. I tie uni to uni and yeah sometimes I get too long and it goes onto the spool. Never had any problem with it and I've never had any FC just break for no reason. I don't remember the FC brand I have on but it's not the most expensive out there. Give it a shot. If you like it, cool. If not...cool.
