Chatterbait Part 2
The same happened for my spinnerbait presentation. Tried all kinds of retrieves but all my strikes came on the slow roll.

Chatterbait Part 2
I did something similar this last week. I had said on the forums that I have no confidence in spinnerbaits. So I forced myself to use only them and I caught 4 fish over several hours. A 4.5 pounder and a 3 pounder plus a couple small ones. Your fish look great! I have not really used chatterbaits much but you have inspired me to try them this next week. What kind of retrieve works best for you?

Leftie Or Rightie
It's hard to find left handed bait caster's so I am training myself to cast left handed. I am a rightie but have always done the switch over because I didn't learn any better as a kid.

Basspro Shops Soft Plastics
My recommendation is to get their 241 piece all pro bass kit. It is a great value. Item #1844317. It has a good assortment of plastics for $21.99 It also comes in a 3700 series box which is nice.

Must Have Lure/plastic
I usually just get ticked and leave swearing I won't go fishing for a month. Then the next morning I am dying to get back out on the water. But I would say my old stand by lure is a Chartreuse twirl tail grub on a pink jig head.

Do You Catch A Lot Or 1-2
I read a study done in the 1990s that was published in the In-fisherman book, where they had teams of editors use the same techniques, for the same period of time on two very similar lakes. The only difference between the lakes was that one was open to the public and fished heavily, and the other was a private lake and fished very lightly. The lake that was heavily pressured produced 3 fish over 3 hours of fishing, and the low pressured lake produced and average of 3 fish per hour. So basically the effect of having low pressured fishing areas are huge! Even if it is catch and release, thie book went on to say that fish get smarter for everytime they are hooked an thrown back. There are ever studies that have shows bass pass these tendancies on to their offspring...which is one reason bass fishing can be much tougher than 200 year ago. Just some food for thought.

Accidental Catches
My crazyiest thing I have ever caught was an old man's sun hat, off the top of his head. I was fly fishing at a state park in MO, and often times folks will try to to walk right behind you while you are fly fishing. You try to watch behind you but shouldn't really need to if folks follow the ettique rules. The proper ettique is to leave plenty of room for a man to cast his fly line...but this guy wasn't paying attention. I remember pulling my fly off the water, waiting for my line to go straight back and then i went to sweep my rod tip forward and cast the fly...but instead it felt like a 40lb bag of sand at first but then the line came free and I felt like I was flying a kite. When I turned around to see what was going on there was this old man with a shocked look on his face and I had his large sun hat at the end of my line. I of course appologized because I felt bad he could have gotten hurt, but he was very kind and correct when he said he should have been paying better attention and will make sure to leave room for folks to fish. I was like 12 at the time and felt like a dumb little kid, but I had several people around me assure me that I did nothing wrong. And that ladies and gentlemen is why you leave plenty of space for a flyfisherman to work his cast.

Question For La Cygne Anglers
The only fish I eat from Kansas are the trout that are stocked. I do fish a lot of smaller urban ponds though and I have a high concern for fertilizer runoff etc.

Deep Suspending Prespawn Bass
I would recommend a drop shot small senko rigged wacky.

Getting Started In Drop Shotting.
I use a 6.6 spinning rod with braid and a fluoro 6lb leader. I use a 2 size ewg hook and work a very thin senko style worm wacky style. The hottest tip I can give u is from kvd himself. He ties a palomar knot for the hook and starts the knot by running the line from the point tip side of the eye. Then when u are done with the standard palomar knot run the tag end of the Line thru the eye of the hook again. This will allow your hook to stick straight out from the line. You can find his video example on youtube.

1 Lure You Have No Confidence In...
My least confident bait is a spinnerbait. I done have a lot of rip rap or rocks where I fish, guessing that's a big part of it.

1 Lure You Have No Confidence In...
Two recommendations. Use mono so that it will stretch and delay your hook set a little bit. Also use a trailer hook.

Wanting A New Boat
One word: NuCanoe. I have a kayak and a canoe, but am thinking about looking into getting a hybrid NuCanoe, look them up, they are pretty sweet! You can reliably stand and fish from them etc.

Thanks. I will check it out now.

Marketing Ploys
How about the kids fishing rod that fired like a nerf gun...except the bullet opened up and turned into the bobber while the lure dropped out?

- Banjo Minnow...do You Remember Them, I Just Tried Them!
I was asking a legit question. Why would you mock me and try to close the only post I have ever started? I may be a new user here but I have read the website for at least a year and just decided to join. I have read every rule about posting I can find at least twice and then you cut me down right off the bat without explanation? What am I missing here?- Budget Bass Fishing

- Banjo Minnow...do You Remember Them, I Just Tried Them!
I am about the most skeptical person I know, which is actually probably an understatement! So about 15 years or so ago when the Banjo Minnow came out I watched the infomercials with a good chuckle, but was amazed at how bassy I thought the action of the lure was. I of course shrugged it off as "they won't ever get my hard earned money" and steered clear of it, until I happened to see a full banjo minnow 006 110pc kit on ebay late last summer for $13 shipped. I never...NEVER...buy gimmicks like this but wanted to try it for the memories I had of watching the infomercial all those years ago. I did some research on youtube and other forums and found that several people actually had pretty good luck with them, so there my journey began. The crazy part was that I don't remember the last time I was so excited to get an item in the mail, but as the delivery date drew closer I could hardly wait. I wanted to see if they were even a small fraction as effective as the infomercial portrays them. Boom, my first cast in a pond with very low bass levels behind my house, caught a 2lb largemouth. I can tell you that after using them for a month last year.....I shockingly feel they are totally legit and would recommend them! I caught all kinds of largemouth on them when nothing else was working, and I even caught a few 3LB plus catfish and several crappie. In fact, the largest bass I ever caught (just over 6LB) was in some shallow reeds with a weightless banjo minnow this last fall. I can't wait to try them out again this spring, but have gotta ask the question of BR, has anyone else tried them and had succes???, or was I just extremely lucky the few weeks I fished them before the weather got to cold last year?- Popularity Of Kayaks
I have been reading lots of this subject lately as I have always been a canoe man myself...but bought a kayak this last week because of the EASE OF TRANSPORTING AND LAUNCHING A KAYAK is so much better than my canoe. I can easily load and unload my kayak, but before with my canoe is was such a chore. My conclusion after research was that for fishing a sit on top kayak at least 10 feet was the way to go! I happen to get a great deal thru Craigslist, and now I am already thinking down the road that my next purchase will maybe be a NuCanoe. It is a canoe/kayak hybrid, it give you all the advantages of a canoe: Load capacity, stability, easy to stand up, but retains all of the attractiveness of a kayak: Easy to paddle, rides high in the water, less vulnerable to wind gusts etc. Here is a pic of how you can sit on the edge of the Nucanoe it is so stable: http://www.google.com/imgres?start=85&sa=X&rlz=1C1GGGE_enUS471US471&espv=210&es_sm=122&biw=1600&bih=933&tbm=isch&tbnid=DJdijj8YeeUp5M%3A&imgrefurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwest-coast-kayaks.com%2F&docid=5bVlfhTxs0kmcM&imgurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwest-coast-kayaks.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2013%2F08%2Fnucanoe_fishing_edited-1-1003x480.jpg&w=1003&h=480&ei=LvUbU6GXPMqlrQHI3oDQBw&zoom=1&ved=0CC0QhBwwDDhk&iact=rc&dur=3472&page=4&ndsp=30 And no, I have no affiliation with the Nucanoe, only discovered it a week ago but am loving the idea of it. Price is around $1000 on up though, but still cheaper than a Hobie ($2300 on up).- Budget Bass Fishing
- Budget Bass Fishing
Budget fishing...finally something I can contribute on! HaHa. Here are some of the first thoughts off my mind: 1) Best baitcast combo for the money IMHO is the Pinnacle inertia, 6'6" MH action. I bought mine thru Academy Sports. I got one on sale for $40, usually $80 (Cork grips) and 2 others for $20 usually $60 (foam grips). 2) Fishing Line: Check manufacturer rebates for any major company...ie: Berkley has a $3 off 1 or $7 off 2 purchase of fishing line. You can purchase 110yd boxes of berkley XT line from walmart for around $7...therefore 2 boxes for the cost of a stamp after rebate. 3) My favorite lure as a new fisherman was and probably always will be a buzzbait. You can buy them for $1 at walmart, or get some decent off brands like Yahoo from Academy etc for $2. They really keep you motivated because you can see your bait. There are some great videos on Youtube and suggestions on BR on tips to improve cheap buzzbaits. 4) My one splurge is on Kevin Van d**n's line and lure spray. It is about as money of a product as you can find, it makes my less expensive line and budget baitcaster work amazingly better. 5) I bought 10 bags of powerbait plastics for free a few months back because they were on clearance for $2 each (down from $3) at a retailer, and powerbait had a $2 rebate. My point on this and my rebate comment under #2 above is that if you are patient and purchase a few baits and practice mastering them, you can bide your time and find great deals on equipment. In a years time you can be well on your way to a pretty large collection. 6) Baits, get a couple of search baits...shallow crankbait, 2-5' crankbait, lipless crankbait, buzzbait, twirltail grub on a jighead. Then get a few finesse baits, texas rig lizard, senko worm, and maybe a fluke. Hope this helps. - Banjo Minnow...do You Remember Them, I Just Tried Them!
