  1. I've been using 10# Sufix Advance on a baitcaster for a couple months now and really like it. Sensitivity is important to me too. This is a bottom contact rod and I like to feel every tick thump bump crack rock log leaf FISH! I tried several brands of nylon and it lacked this sensitivity for me. I've been trying lots of different fluorocarbons over the past several years because it has better sensitivity for me but not great abrasion resistance in my shallow rocky river. Even Seaguar Abrazx falls short, at least in 10# test. So far Sufix Advance in 10# has been very sensitive, handles well and is as abrasion resistant as any fluoro or nylon line I've tried except Gamma Edge fluorocarbon. But at $26/100 yards Gamma Edge is even MORE expensive than Seaguar Tatsu!
  2. I haven't hunted squirrels in over 20 years but I always used a Marlin Model 60 .22 LR with open sights. It even had a squirrel engraved into the stock.
  3. Welcome to BR from a fellow West Virginian!
  4. And I recognized the names of 3 professional WALLEYE anglers in the top 12. Korey Sprengel - winner Mark Courts - 6th place Jason Przekurat - 12th place (Chase Parsons/Gary Parsons finished in 62nd place. I wonder if they were targeting "fish with teeth" instead......) Bret Alexander/Eric Haataja finished 37th. That's a Sturgeon Bay powerhouse duo right there! I bet they were disappointed.
  5. In my experience Sufix Advance is the lowest stretch flouro or nylon line I've ever used. Invizx is one of the "stretchiest". YMMV
  6. My nemesis is the Ned rig. Yes, you read that right! The bait that makes small children look like professional fisherman. I was fishing with a fellow BR member a couple weeks ago who catches lots of fish on the darn thing and I just can't get bit on it.
  7. When I decided to start wearing gloves for sun protection I bought some Glacier Glove Abaco Bay Fingerless Sun Gloves. The material is very thin and I thought they would be a little cooler in the summer. Unfortunately after one summer the stitching started coming out and and they fell apart. I'm now on my second season using Fish Monkey gloves and so far so good.
  8. My experience with Red Label and Invizx is 10# on a baitcaster. No spinning and nothing heavier than 10#. With that in mind, I found them very similar. Handled well and held knots fine, but both had poor abrasion resistance. The Invizx was noticeably stretchier in 10# test, like a rubber band. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I was fishing bottom contact jigs and t-rigs and didn't like it. So between the two for my application I chose Red Label.
  9. One day that will be you taking a picture of Dean Rojas? I joke I joke!!! I keed I keed!!!
  10. Welcome to Bass Resource. BEAR DOWN!!!!!!!!!
  11. I don't have anything to add, but wanted to say he is probably my favorite pro fisherman ever and I really really miss Brauer Bass Battles (then Ardent Bass Battles) that he filmed with his son Chad. Great TV series!!
  12. Ditto. The other thing I do is I stick my index finger out and let the line bounce off of it for the first couple turns of the reel handle. This way there is tension on the line when it starts spooling after the cast. Any potential loops on the spool are eliminated.
  13. I fish a shallow rocky river as well and would be lost without my hook file! I've used several different brands of diamond file and they have all worked great. I don't sharpen them exactly like Glenn shows in his video, but I do check the sharpness like Glenn shows. If it digs into my thumbnail with very little pressure it's sharp. Get a diamond file, watch some videos on Youtube and practice and you'll have super sharp hooks in no time!!
  14. Years ago when I was a small boy my family was vacationing on a lake in northern Wisconsin. Next to our dock was a huge oak tree hanging out over the water. We watched a squirrel jump out of the overhanging branches onto a rock in the water to get an acorn sitting on there. No sooner had he grabbed the acorn when we heard a huge splash and a musky grabbed that squirrel right off the rock! A couple minutes later we heard a smaller splash caused by that same musky as she placed another acorn on that rock.
  15. I've been using 10# Sufix Advanced on a baitcasting rod for the past 3 weeks and really like it so far. I use this rod for bottom contact presentations in a shallow rocky river and have 2 needs for this: sensitive and abrasion-resistant. I was surprised to find this line as sensitive as any fluorocarbon I've used on this rod! Every mono I've tried has been lacking in sensitivity. I also think it stretches less than any 10# mono or fluoro I've used. I've been bank fishing, and my "not so scientific" data shows when I get snagged and have to break off, I can do it without backing up. I always have to back up with mono and fluoro to stretch the line enough to break it.
  16. I would shorten it up too. When I'm using a Baby Rage Craw as a trailer on a finesse jig I always bite off the first segment or 2 before threading it on the jig.
  17. I am 100% catch and release because I don't like to eat fish. And like many members here I have thousands of dollars invested in this sport. Shoot, thousands of dollars invested in rods and reels alone! If your dad is reading this: "Hey dad. Give your son a chance to show you why he loves to bass fish. You may get hooked too and find a pastime you can enjoy together for years to come!!" My father didn't fish, but some of my fondest memories are fishing with my son.
  18. My favorite is a SK Bitsy Bug jig with Baby Rage Craw trailer.
  19. @Bluebasser86 Are those saugeye? Except maybe the bottom fish which looks like a walleye?
  20. Welcome to BR @Trappernewt. I am in the Eastern Panhandle of WV and fish the Upper Potomac. Great to see a fellow West Virginian on the site!
  21. I don't have experience with either line, but here's what I would be asking myself: Do I have any complaints about the Spiderwire 100% Fluoro that I'm currently using? What am I looking for my fluorocarbon line to do better? Handle better? More sensitive? Less stretch? More stretch? More abrasion resistance? Then I'd buy some of the Trilene while it's still on sale and see if it's "better".
  22. My go-to bait for the river smallmouth I fish is a 3/16 ounce Strike King Bitsy bug in blue craw, a Strike King Baby Rage Craw in blue craw, and the tips of the claws colored orange with Spike-It. I fish this bait more than anything else and I know at times if I fished with other baits I would catch more fish. But I don't care, fishing this little jig makes me happy. It's the "thunk" of the bite and the hookset that just gives me goosebumps!!!!!! I love it so much I had @Delaware Valley Tackle build me a custom rod last year specifically to fish this jig.
  23. Yup, I also sharpen hooks all the time. I fish a very rocky very snaggy river and if I didn't have a hook sharpener I would go broke changing hooks or jig heads all the time!
  24. The best tool I've found for cutting braided line is the RIGRAP CERAMAX SUPER CUTTERS. Basically a ceramic scissors made to specifically cut braid. You never have to use tension and they always cut cleanly. They don't seem to be popular though. The first pair I bought cost $20. I lent them to a friend and never got them back. I paid $10 for the replacement pair. I just saw them on sale at DSG for $3 and bought a couple more. I'm set for life.... ?
