  1. I had the same issue w/braid a few years back...just make sure if you're gonna throw a prop bait w/braid you need a fast or extra fast tip. A faster rod action makes it all ok
  2. Wow, that's a beautiful fish! Being a little brother myself, I know your little brother is on cloud nine right now. Just let him enjoy it for a little while, then you can go back out and whoop up on him.
  3. I'll start w/this: I am broke and don't own much of anything. I respect everyone and their property and if someone feels like their property is at risk of being damaged they can defend it how they see fit (to an extent). If someone asks you not to fish their dock, then have some respect and move on to the next. There is no need acting like a spoiled brat where everything is yours...just move on like a grown up and keep on fishing.
  4. Oh no no no no no! The best method is to simply cast out, let it sit a few seconds, then give it a small twitch (maybe 6"). Let it sit again.....repeat. I'm sure you could get bites just retrieving it, but I have never had such luck. Try Smithwick's Devil's Horse, any color. Simple bait to learn and super productive fished near grass or any cover.
  5. Sounds a lot like a pre-rigged Creme Scoundrel that they seem to sell at every gas station/hole in the wall bait shop in NC. I own a black one w/a white stripe down the side; never used it, but may just have to give it a try.
  6. The title of the post had me intrigued. I was waiting for somebody to come up w/a complaint about Pfluger spinning reels, but it seems they have earned another vote of confidence.
  7. Welcome to BR from the big town of Burgaw!

Dammit boy! That song is too d**n catchy to be posting on here. As good as the song is, the video had me cracking up. Funny how some of the most liberal politicians in this country call that place home. Then again, they are obviously north-siders (my apologies to Ryne Sandberg).
  9. Shallow water - white or watermelon candy Zoom Trick Worm rigged weed-less and weightless on a 4/0 Gamakatsu G-lock hook Top water - Smithwick Devil's Horse, any pattern as long as it has some white/light color on the bottom
  10. I've heard of foul hooking, but Fowl Hooking is a new one by me.
  11. ^^^^^President all the way. Is it me or has this question popped up quite a bit lately? And it always ends w/the same answer.
  12. Touché my good friend, touché. I kinda want some chocolate cake now...
  13. Welcome aboard. Seems like most of the folks on here are lake fisherman/woman...er....people (whatever the PC term is). You may be able to help out folks w/their questions about the moving water.
  14. From what I have heard/read, a lot of retailers did not get their full shipments sent to them as they had intended. Shimano says that most retailers should be receiving small shipments over the next several weeks. Hope this was helpful.
  15. Imagine a kitchen mixer coming across the water surface, but twice as annoying and without cake batter flying everywhere.
  16. The last time I checked, an ounce of feathers weighed the same as an ounce of steel. So what is the difference b/w using a 1 oz. lead weight and a 1 oz. tungsten weight other than the size? It seems like all I hear about in the weights department are tungsten weights. My only question is: what makes them so great?
  17. I use it for everything, just change up leaders depending on what lures/presentation I'm fishing. I really like PowerPro, and a uni-to-uni knot makes it very easy to attach leader line to it.
  18. Sorry to hear about your bad luck. On the bright side, you do still have a boat to fish out of and all of your tackle. Someone had mentioned craigslist earlier; in my area craigslist has not had too many lately, however, the local pawn shops always seem to have one or two in the store.
  19. OFF! Deepwoods Sportsman - the lotion type, not the spray. This stuff works wonders on ticks, mosquitoes and any other biting, sucking creepy crawler. Here is southeastern NC it is a given that you will have to deal w/these things and the ticks will find you year-round so it's best to be prepared.
  20. Wow! You must definitely be single. I get a few hours, or minutes, at a time before the wife needs me to do something. Count yourself lucky to be able to spend that much time on the water.
  21. One thing everyone should remember: when LEOs/Game Wardens seem to be singling out particular people, boats, etc., it is not always b/c they are trying to be a**h***s, a lot of the time the particulars they are looking for are directives from their higher-ups. Believe me, I deal w/LEOs a lot in my job and many of them are pretty easy to get along with and would much rather be sitting in their air conditioned vehicle than out in the heat/cold/rain/snow dealing w/the public. They have a job to do, one that I'm sure not too many folks ***.
  22. As far as response time goes for game wardens, the have very large areas to cover in my area. This is typically several counties and if they have more than one complaint to handle, there is a good chance it's going to take them some time to get to the second or third complaint of the day. I try to treat game wardens/LEO's as I would any other person, that is the same way I would like to be treated. I find this goes a long way when dealing w/law enforcement.
  23. In my experience, pickerel prefer fast moving, flashy baits like spinner baits. I would stick to slower moving tactics to discourage those pickerel. If you do happen to hook into one, hopefully it will at least have some size to it b/c they are fun to catch.
  24. I have had bullfrogs attempt to eat soft plastics thrown near the bank, snapping turtles love hula poppers and dragon flies keep landing on my line. The dragon flies make it feel like you have a really soft hit on weightless plastics.
  25. White Trick worm. It can be rigged many different ways, fished fast or slow, and works in just about any water color.
