  1. Deep diving cranks. I have never bought them but have been gifted them several times. The waters I fish are way too shallow, snaggy and weed ridden to ever use them. They sure look good though!
  2. Anchor trolley w/small anchor for me. But if the wind is not constant from one direction you will still get turned around a lot. 10 mph does not seem like strong wind, but on a kayak it can make everything more difficult. Staying put w/o a trolling motor w/spot lock is my biggest challenge when fishing from my kayak.
  3. Glad to hear some folks have fished these and had success. I grabbed several at Ollie’s…they were only $4 and I love a spinnerbait so I couldn’t pass them up
  4. As casts_by_fly stated, the rubber bobber stops were designed for this purpose. I have never had an issue with them going through the guides on my rods. I don’t know if I would want something hard hitting all the guides on my rod repeatedly for fear of damaging them.
  5. I used to be exactly like this. Now I stick to what I have the most confidence in which mostly t-rigged trick worms, curly tails and spinnerbaits. Trying to catch fish on new techniques is fun but I never seem to have as much luck (or any luck for that matter) on them.
  6. I’ve had the x9 (10 lb, it was free when I purchased the reel) on my drop shot setup for a couple of years now and have no complaints.
  7. I was at Sportsman’s Warehouse (Wilmington, NC) yesterday and they had several large bins of soft plastics marked down quite a bit. I know I saw a few different one from Rapala in the mix as well as may other big brands.
  8. I guess I’ll bring this old thread back to life. I have a smoke hd bc that pleasantly surprises me every time I use it. Don’t particularly care for Quantum but love this reel. It’ll throw down to 1/4 oz and I’ve thrown up to 2 oz on it and bombs casts at either end of that weight range. It has seen light salt duty for red drum and flounder and hasn’t missed a beat. Added bonus that I picked it up half off a few years ago.
  9. Kayak and bank with occasional John boat trip. It’s too easy to just slide the kayak in and out of the truck bed to not use it and allows access to water I can’t fish from the bank.
  10. 1/2 oz War Eagle double willow spinner bait w/fluke trailer

4” zoom dead ringer does pretty well fished like a ned
  12. I use the 7’ m/f HMG for inshore saltwater fishing. It’s paired with a 3000 size Penn Battle II with 10 lb power pro. That setup casts really well and has handled some upper slot red drum really well. It’s not the most sensitive rod but for $100 I can’t expect too much more from it.
  13. ^^^^^^This. If it feels right to you just go with it.
  14. Thanks! I guess I should have put on my glasses.
  15. You ever throw a trailer on it? Like a grub or maybe a toad? I’ve had decent luck on red drum with a white curly tail grub.
  16. Nice catch! I love to see people using old school baits like the silver minnow.
  17. I guess it’s a good thing I was only catching dinks.
  18. That’s the same thing I saw. Anyways, it’s my first time using a bait like this and was interesting watching it swim. It sinks rather quickly and will do a 180 with a slight twitch. The little guys I caught were all caught while burning it just under the surface.
  19. Thanks. Amazon was the only place I could find anything resembling it. I gave a guy $5 for it so I don’t feel like I wasted money. Was able to land a few dinks with it the other night. On a positive note, the hooks are extra sticky sharp.
  20. It’s roughly 3” long and I’m guessing 3/8 oz. It has no markings or brand labels on either side. Any help would be appreciated.
  21. Agreed, this site is very informative and for the most part light-hearted. I’m not trying to be the grammar police. But what does the term GEN mean to anyone? I guess I have seen it too many times and tonight it just annoyed me. Long week…
  22. Folks please stop referring to clear water as gen clear. The correct term is gin clear, as in the alcoholic beverage Gin. Don’t want to sound like a rant but I see this word used incorrectly so often in posts and it really grates on me.
  23. Congrats to your son…always nice to see kids catching
  24. Never used either of the two reels mentioned. I did have an old Okuma Avenger 2500 and it lasted almost 8 years with zero trouble...it was lost while I was moving. The only maintenance it ever saw was a drop or two of oil in the spring and fall. They can be found for around $40 which I would consider budget friendly.
  25. I'd say about as much as that sweet mustache!
