Lures you may never use ???

Featured Replies

Do you have anything in your arsenal that you probably shouldn't? You bought it, but not sure why.

My example:

I believe I have 4 or 5 -plano 3700 boxes full of deep diving lures. Most of the lakes around me max out at about 15 feet. I keep saying one of these days I will find a drop off and these will be needed. 🤔

Just about any lipless at a 1/2oz or over is useless around here. Most places are very shallow, and weeds are too close to the surface most of the year so it's just super tedious fishing with them. That didn't stop me from buying a pile of them for the rare spots I can chuck them in. Very little payoff though.

Deep diving cranks. I have never bought them but have been gifted them several times. The waters I fish are way too shallow, snaggy and weed ridden to ever use them. They sure look good though!

As far as I know, as long as I fish from the bank, I can't use my deep-diving crank baits, obviously.

But I am hoping in the near future I'll buy my boat and they're going to be used regularly.

I have several lures. One that comes to mind is a Storm Big Mac with the short lip. I bought it thirty to forty years ago. Still in the box. I thought it might be a good bait for large bass in standing timber.

edited . Its called a Shallo Mac.

Jerkbaits. Popping a jerk for an hour will tear up my wrist for a week.

Can you get a different handed casting reel/use a spinning setup for your jerks?

I have big plano boxes with saltwater plugs, from surface poppers to deep divers (25'+)

Also bags of big plastics too for salt.

The majority of my fishing the last couple of years have been in freshwater, finesse fishing.

There is a purpose for every lure I own. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I have 2 10" Storm Kickin' Minnows that I bought for muskie fishing. They're 5.25oz and 10". They have really nice action, but I've got about 5 cast with them before I'm done. Not fun to fish with at all, but I have 2 of them and they're probably close to 20 years old now.

I fish a fluke, Ned rig, and a spy bait almost exclusively so technically you could classify my whole boat's worth of tackle as lures I probably shouldn't have. lol

Every lure I've bought I bought for a purpose, however I either discovered some of them sucked at that purpose, had better alternatives, or I simply did not find myself encountering those niche situations much.

Definitely a lot of cranks fall into that category for me. I find the situations I would throw a crank the lake is either choked with too many weeds, it's too windy and I can cover water better with something like an underpsin or spinnerbait.

When I first got into bass fishing Dave Fritz was winning everything on deep diving Poes crankbaits. I bought so many of them thinking they worked everywhere. Well in 30+ years I have caught exactly 2 bass and 4 yellow perch on them. I did manage to catch a trophy 3 piece folding lawn chair as well. The places I fish are just not where these baits work. Either the water is too shallow or 40 FOW and crystal clear.

I haven’t tried a left handed reel but I have tried a spinning outfit with the same results.

I have about 30 RC3s and 4s. I am collecting them for a wall deco idea I have that I'll put together... one day... 🙄😂

I have a couple Lucky Craft jerkbaits that will never see water. I am not sure what they were called but I ordered them by accident not knowing the size. I would guess that they are 210mm or 8in. They weigh about 2oz easy. I thought they were for saltwater when I got them but I remember the box stating bass. They have been collecting dust for about 10 years.

Could be a flash minnow but they are for tuna. Thats about the only jerkbait they make that size. The pointer is their premier bass jerkbait and it's a 110. Could be an older discontinued model since you said they are 10 years old.

If you try left-handed, you'd be using your other wrist to do most of the work. So that may help.

I bought a minnow trap last year. At the time it seemed like a good idea.

Deep diving cranks. Some I bought, some I found. And a few hard jerkbaits.

A couple 3700’s with big pike lures, walleye rigs and bottom dragging weights I bought for a trip to Canada,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,twenty+ years ago.

Most have never seen water.

The only time I actually fished for pike or walleye!

Some spoons. Never caught anything but the bottom

I am surprised so many say deep cranks. I love me some 10xd's!

The only few baits I have that I rarely use are senkos - It's been 2 years since I used a plastic worm and I have 0 regrets.

I have a couple packs of Senkos I may never use again, lol, but I did order a pack of SK Cut r worms to try, since I like swimming baits
