  1. Like @Bluebasser86 I keep my net in the same spot all the time. Directly in front of me, accessible by my left hand. I’ll guide the fish to the port side, reel down and as I lift the rod up will grab the net and position it for the landing. Lifting the rod keeps tension on the fish while bringing it closer to the canoe. I don’t do this until I’ve got it close enough to net, not grabbing the net too early lets me concentrate on getting the fish to the boat. I typically don’t lose a fish boat side but from weak hook sets and not taking up slack soon enough .
  2. Always a sad day but the memories will last forever.
  3. Glad it’s working out for you. It’s hard to recommend lower end rods but I felt it was a decent value. And for what you paid it's a win!
  4. Post up your thoughts with the new rod. I think you’ll find it a great “all purpose” rod.
  5. Nice alternative @BrianMDTX
  6. My best is still ahead of me. Physically it may be behind me but mentally I’m way ahead.
  7. I’d like your review of the 119 once you have had an opportunity to use it some. My main ride, Sportspal 13’ square stern is absolutely my favorite but considering a simple “throw ‘n go” canoe for when we take the camper and travel. But at 57# the stripped down SP is hard to beat with a 3” draft and a double paddle!
  8. I was starting to question the comeback, but here we are. Thank you
  9. I’ve heard that. It’s sure different now.
  10. ‘86 thru ‘90 Long before they had any sports leagues or hip-hop country 😆 Fishing was “the thing”!
  11. I wish we still lived there 🙁
  12. Nerer heard of them, link?
  13. Really? I’ve debated it’s usefulness but haven’t convinced myself that it’s worth $100. Is it truly?
  14. Wow! I ruptured my bicep five years ago and to this day still have pain trying to curl-lift anything. No surgery option so just had to heal slowly but wished surgery would have been an option. Hopefully you’re not right handed. Good luck with the surgery and here’s to a speedy recovery. 👍🏼
  15. Suffix Advanced 8# on one and 8# Power Pro braid on the other two casting rigs. 8# Suffix Revolve braid on my one spinning with 6# fluro leader
  16. Yeah, that’s why I use trolling as a selective method, using bigger equipment designed for particular trolling applications like walleye and stripers. Pulling lures while moving in the canoe is an “always “ opportunity to pick up an extra fish I wouldn’t have. Plus I agree, moseying along leisurely enjoying nature is an added enjoyment.
  17. In all reality BFS and Ultralight fishing equipment is the same, just with different names. Distinguishing differences is the BFS movement made an ultralight spinning rig into a baitcasting set up. You can accomplish the same ends with either setups, throwing the same ultra light baits, lures and weights. My ultralight setup is a 500 series spinning reel on a 5’6” “light” spinning rod with 6lb copoly line. I also use a 6’4” medium light BFS casting rod with a 100 sized BFS reel and 8lb braid for up 1/4oz moving lures. Both combos will throw the same lures so depending on what I’m fishing determines which gets used at that moment. I also have a micro setup which will throw a 1/32 lure ,,,,forever! It a five foot Tsurinoya Dragon light trout rod and Hurricane reel used for trout lures and tiny bass lures in creeks. All thrown on two pound nylon line. It’s a hoot!
  18. True trolling I do for stripers, with planer boards and four to six rods. Outside of big water I pull a spinnerbait or medium diver when moving from place to place but I don’t consider that “trolling”. Technically it is, but pulling a bait while moving position is more like opportunity fishing.
  19. Buzzbait Scramble 106 Propbait
  20. No
  21. It’s,,,,,,plastic,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,thats why there is recycling They last forever in a sealed package
  22. Ahhhhh, back to the beginning. The methods of youth when fishing was simple. It’s always been there but least we forget what got us here. Good on ya, it’s about “catching “ isn’t it.
  23. Hello, my name is Ron,,,,and I have an addiction. Finding my self checking in every fifteen minutes and searching for roundabout solutions was emotionally draining. I thought “what if it was gone forever “? I can make it! Then I slapped myself Glad it’s back. Thank you, that was a close one…………I’m retired, I have neither time or resources for a new therapist.
