  1. Either I missed something or TorqueConverter was the only one to mention throwing a jig? I throw a jig 90% of the time and it has accounted for many big bass. I used to only throw crank baits when I first started out (the person I fished with all the time throws them almost always). With the pace he trolled the boat I had no other option but to throw a crankbait as well. Once I got my first boat, I started dabbling in other baits. I couldn't catch fish with anything but a crankbait still, but then I took all of my crankbaits out of my boat along with my crankin rods, and left only jigs and soft plastics in my boat, forcing myself to throw them. I now seldomly pick up a crankbait. I don't feel that I am an expert at throwing a jig, but I feel that I am very proficient and I have full confidence in them. This summer I picked up on a carolina rig, and have caught a lot of good fish on it too. I feel what made me better with these baits was to fish them all the time by not bringing my comfort baits. I would suggest to try some jigs and squarebills. Squarebills are awesome search baits as you can cover a lot of water with them and will work very well in shallow water around cover.
  2. No Green Gizzard Shad?? That's the best color! Especially in the 10XD!
  3. I'm definitely gonna have to try some of these. I throw jigs probably 90% of the time and I don't have a single jig that the paint hasn't come off of the head. Although, I really only drag jigs over rocks and shell beds so I don't know if I'll ever find one that the paint doesn't come off the head. I really have never noticed where the jig head color matters, as I have some that are beat to death and still catch quality fish, but then again I am pretty OCD about stuff like that. BTW, I use watermelon if it is sunny and green pumpkin if it is overcast. Mix in a little black and blue when its overcast as well but you can't beat watermelon or green pumpkin. Heck, Casey Ashley throws a green pumpkin jig 99% of the time and he's one of the best anglers out there. I'll also tell you a little secret: Netbait Paca Chunk in Magic Craw is the best trailer ever, just ordered 10 packs off ***. The only bait that I buy in bulk
  4. I agree, I have one of the rattlin version and one of the silent version and I have caught a lot more fish on the rattlin version. This is a great wakebait for anyone wanting to try them! I know they are kinda expensive, but hey they float right?
  5. I throw mine on a custom 7'3" Heavy glass rod. Most think it is dumb to throw them on a glass rod but most have also not tried it. My hookups and landed fish have went out the roof since switching to a glass rod. I also throw chatterbaits and buzzbaits on this same rod. I use 17 lb fluro for mine as well. This rod would be well under $200 shipped to your door. If you are interested in one shoot me a PM!
  6. Sunline Sniper is the best fluorocarbon for the money IMO. Back your reel with braid and you can easily fill two reels up with one spool.
  7. I personally throw mine on a 7'6" Heavy glass rod with a moderate tip and it is awesome for the 10XD. I throw the 6XD on a 7'10" Medium Heavy glass rod with a moderate tip and it works wonders as well. I didn't bring my crankin rods with me this past weekend and the buddy I fished with had a 10XD on an 805CBRM and an 806CBRM and I threw both of them. The 806 definitely handles the 10XD better, but it wasn't a strain to throw it on the 805CBRM, plus the 805CBRM is awesome for Spro deep divers if you like to throw those as well. The 805CBRM would be a better choice if you are going to throw a lot of Spros and 6XDs along with the 10XD. I will say though that since the 10XD came out, I rarely throw a Spro or a 6XD unless I'm fishing in the 10ft range. You can make a fish eat a 10XD just as well as a 6XD, or at least I can. I don't find myself catching less fish and I'm also catching bigger fish since I started throwing the 10XD all the time. Supposedly Strike King is coming out with an 8XD as well
  8. I personally throw a spook and a buzzbait on two separate rods. I throw a spook on a 7ft MH glass rod with a moderate tip and I throw buzzbaits on a 7'3" heavy glass rod with a moderate tip. I throw braid with the spook and fluoro with the buzzbait. I also throw hollow bodied swimbaits and chatterbaits on the 7'3" heavy glass rod and I love it. I have not lost a fish since switching over to these two setups. I know a lot of people wouldn't throw a swimbait on a glass rod, but if more people would try it they would love it. I hooked a 7 lber on a shadalicious from 30 yards away with the glass rod. The tip isn't super whippy because it is a heavy power rod so it drives the hook well, and the extra bend over a fast action rod keeps the fish pinned a lot better. I actually throw my spinnerbaits on a glass rod as well. The only things I throw on a graphite rod are texas rig, jig, and carolina rig.
  9. I like to throw an LC Gunfish and an Ima Roumba. As someone stated earlier, they throw a rattle trap and let it drop in the middle of the school cause the bigger ones are under the smaller ones. I have to agree about the bigger fish being under the smaller ones, as I have been around huge schools busting before and caught smaller fish on the Gunfish and the larger fish on the Roumba that I can work down to about 1 ft. Never tried the rattle trap tho.
  10. Don't own one but my cousin is on their pro staff so I have tested out a few. All I have tried are the Rosewood series and didn't care for them at all. Very bottom heavy, which I had never felt before in a rod and didn't like the action of them very much either. The ones I tried were the MH and H Jig and Worm rods. I would take a $100 *** Black over the Rosewood no questions asked. And this is a completely biased opinion as all the rods I use are customs. Edit: "unbiased" Don't want to sound uneducated.
  11. and they are both much better than the Rosewood
  12. I don't want to bash any brand, but there are a lot better options at every price range than any Duckett.
  13. Never used one, but I will continue to watch this post to see if a couple of members comment on this...and to see if it turns into more.
  14. They turn yellow when exposed to a lot of sunlight (when left out on deck while fishing). If that doesn't bother you then they are a decent rod for $100, but the *** *** Black is a way better rod for $100. Also Cabelas has the Abu Garcia Veritas on sale for $39.99 right now online. It is a better rod than the Duckett Ghost as well IMO.
  15. I too prefer glass and only glass when deep crankin. I can get you hooked up with a custom glass rod of any length you want for deep divers. It's also a 100% e-glass rod, which is a much better built blank and more sensitive than the glass rods you find from major brands. Shoot me a PM if you are interested in one.
  16. You, me, and everyone else I know
  17. He said newest version of each. He's talking about the Curado I and Chronarch CI4.
  18. I have both the Curado 200IHG and the Chronarch 150CI4HG. I find the Chronarch to be a little smoother than the Curado, but not by much. I have two of the Curados, a bunch of Curado E's, and one Chronarch. I plan to get more of the new Curados because I want my reels to be workhorses for the lowest dollar amount possible, and I know the new Curado is a great option. The Chronarch is a great reel to, but I consider the Chronarch CI4 to be more of a higher end reel, and while they are nice to have, I'll save the $80 difference and go with a Curado when I know it is going to do the job just as well as the Chronarch will.
  19. No problem bud, good luck!
  20. Yeah here's the link: http://www.denalirods.com/joinprostaff.aspx
  21. Just apply for Denali's pro staff, very easy to get on. My cousin applied and got on and had never used their rods. Plus you get them extremely cheap if you are on it. You can get their Rosewood series for under $100.
  22. Veritas for sure. Unless you like Duckett Micro Magics then get the Carrot Stix. I was told by someone pretty high up that the Micro Magic is a white Carrot Stix...
  23. So for the main gear I have part number BNT4046, pinion gear I have BNT4050, metal drag washer I have BNT3941. Does this look right? And what is the part number for the AR sleeve? Thanks!
  24. Is there anything else I will need besides the Core 50MG7 gears so that they will fit and work in the Scorpion 1000XT?
