The reason I wrote more nutricious was due to them having the choices of eating NOTHING or eating something from the bottom. Something is way more nutricious than nothing!!! Just ask yourself this question... During the time you've been fishing, have you caught more bass on plastic worms/jigs or on reaction baits? All times of the year included!!!!

I guess small mouths don't eat helgremites either... Nobody here is claiming they are designed to bottom feed. Although something caused evolution to force them to eat more nutricious food that lives on the BOTTOM.

Rod length has a lot to do with casting distance as well. The longer the rod the longer the cast.

Match the bait they eat where you are fishing.

3/8ths is plenty. Just work it slow. Cast out and let sink to the bottom and then start your retrieve.

Water temps here in south Florida are in the 90-93 range right now. Makes for some tough fishing.

Is that a white spinnerbait with silver blades? If that's what you mean they've been used multiple times and no success.

NLMB are more used to seeing trout. Therefore just as likely to eat them. I think FLMB may be a bit more aggressive feeders and see the stocked trout as easy prey.

Sounds mostly what I just said about them bedding. Although if your finding bedded pairs and it takes 10 casts to hook into one you may want to try something besides your Maribou jigs. I saw and caught several this past Wednesday that were bedded just between woolbright and boynton beach blvd. Was the fish in your avatar caught from any of the deep holes my original title refers to?

USE IT!!!!! They work especially well at night in black. Try using near pads with a 12" worm hooked trigged and they imitate snakes very well and get crushed early mornings.

Wouldn't a bit of logical thinking tell you that NLMB would eat a fish more readily available the further north you go? Why would Florida strain bass be accustomed to eating forage rarely seen in Florida waters? Most of central to south Florida waters get way too warm for trout to survive yet thrive? Fish in general will eat whatever available forage is around that has the highest fat content. FLMB have thrived in south Cali because of the depths of those reservoirs allow the trout to go deep enough to stay in cooler water. NLMB eat trout and have been for years. I grew up fishing a small trout stocked pond and whenever the hatchery truck showed up the larger bass started to school around and would crush anything rainbow trout colored and large baits as well. Another favorite of NLMB to use patterns of are herring. Another high fat content forage fish.

And definitely a mudfish/bowfin.

LMB tails will look like that also when they are prepping beds to spawn in especially in areas where there is rock under the silt they move away to create their beds.

There's a few here and there bedded up but have noticed most aren't paired up yet. I normally see the mate hanging around the weed sections around the beds but only saw two pairs this past Wednesday. Seems like most are still cruising. A ton of tilapia using the beds now and I think the peas take over when the tilapia are done. My guess is in about 2-3 weeks they'll be bedding in pairs and heavy into it. It becomes almost too easy to catch them at that point. Lol. Small xraps with fastach so they sink slowly are DEADLY for them on the beds. Let sink to bottom of the bed if it even makes it and then one small twitch and fish on. In rare occasions you may have to cast a second time to the bed. If they miss it really ticks them off and become even more super aggressive.
