Soft Touch reel seats
5BL, I have a Fuji Soft Touch reel seat on the G-Loomis Flippin Stick I built. It is not really soft like a foam grip. It does have a little different texture to the touch. Imagine hard rubber, like the sole of a shoe. It really doesn't feel any different in your hand. What I liked and the reason I bought it, is it is a darker color. Black like the foam grips I used on the rod. There is little if any difference in the price, as I remember. It's a good grip. You can't go wrong. JMHO Ronnie

what holds your tackle?..
At the rate I'm going, my next tackle box will be a wheelbarrow. ;D Seriously, I've been trying to discipline myself to use a "day box". That is, trying to leave most of the "warehouse" at home and just take the stuff I need for the days fishing. This accomplishes a couple of things. One, I won't need helper to carry it all and two, it forces me to think through the fishing conditions, stain, weather, lake, temps, etc. more beforehand. This more forces me to fish the conditions rather than junk fish. Ronnie

Devils Horse lure?
I have a couple and have caught fish with them, but the only lure in the box? I don't think so. JMHO Ronnie

can't decide what loomis to get
I like a stiffer 7' rod for worms, but a little softer action for spinnerbaits, so I can feel the blades turning. You can certainly fish both with either of those rods. I now have or have had in the past, both rods in both power ratings. You just can't beat Loomis rods. JMHO Ronnie

palomar vrs clinch..
I used clinch knot and Trilene (clinch knot) for many years, but no more. The Palomar is stronger and easier to tie. JMHO Ronnie

Rod builders, I'm ashamed, is there any hope?
Ronnie, That's exactly how I remove the guides, except I use a tiny bit on a dremel motor to take the epoxy & thread off the guide foot. Removing the guide is not what broke the rod. While I had the blank heated to remove the old epoxy, just as you described above, I tried to reposition the rod on my table and when I lifted the rod it kinked because it was warm. I just wasn't thinking, very dumb thing to do. Unfortunately, it hurts even worse when know the right thing to do and forget to do it. This is not the end of the world, there are a million rods out there, this was only one. I will figure out a way to have some fun with it, I always do. LOL Ronnie

Rod builders, I'm ashamed, is there any hope?
RM, I make no bones about it being my fault and I am only calling out of curiosity and to let them know that I appreciate their service. I will be perfectly honest with them about how it happened. If they are willing to give me some/any credit toward the purchase of a new blank I will accept it, if not I will not be dissapointed. Also before I call them I have already bought another G-Loomis blank. As a matter of fact I just got the shipping confirmation from Mudhole for a new MB844 blank. Mud Hole Custom Tackle, Inc. Who Dat
I lived in N.O. when they started thier first season. You never saw such devoted fans for a team without a winning season in 20 straight years. They had their first winning season the year after I left, so I'm pretty sure it was my fault. Have been away from there since 1986 but I'm still a Saints fan. I am glad they finally have chance at the Superbowl. Ronnie

Rod builders, I'm ashamed, is there any hope?
KU, This particular rod was replaced less than 3 months ago by the expiditor service, due to a broken tip. I took a factory rod that was perfect and ground off all the guides to rewrap it. I broke the rod due to my own negligence. I am going to give G-Loomis a call, remind them of how much $ I have spent on their rods and beg for mercy, but I don't expect them to honor their waranty. After all, this my responsibility. I decided to rebuild the rod, G-Loomis did nothing wrong. If they will replace the rod or blank under warranty I will be more of an advocate for their products than ever, if that's possible. This screw up belongs to me and me alone. Ronnie

My Hospital is closing its doors!!!
Matt, Like the others have said, take care of your family. We will be praying for you & yours. I've seen some of these guys, and believe me, they can stand to miss a meal. As much as I would love to try your brisket, I would much rather see YOU still make it to Fork. I was born in San Angelo and still have a lot of family there. God bless Ronnie

Rod builders, I'm ashamed, is there any hope?
I recently removed the guides on my old CR724 IMX and spiral wrapped it. It turned out great and I was anxious to do the same with the GLX. However, in my typical graceful way, while I was taking off the old guides on my factory CR722 GLX while heating one of the old wraps, I tried to move the rod and applied some pressure and it bent (broke). I now have a beautifull G-Loomis GLX rod blank that is only 5' 2" long. > My question... is there any use in finishing the rod at this length? I have a 5' 6" Lamiglas heavy pitchin stick that I love for pitching under overhanging trees and skipping tubes under docks, etc. I am wondering if this little rod is worth trying to finish or should I just toss it, and learn from the experience? It's real heartbreaker to throw out a $325 rod because of a stupid mistake. :'( Any creative ideas would be welcome. Ice fishing is not an option for me. Thanks! Ronnie

Let's go for a ride!
No, that's not me, but he stays in his own lane about like I do. I must say, everyone seems to get off the road when I come through also. I guess there are more similarities than I thought. ;D Ronnie

Do you pitch/flip right or left handed?
I hold the rod in my right hand and switch. I have never lost a fish as a result. Even the times when the strike came as soon as the bait hit the water, I was still able to set the hook. My problem is, I am completely right handed, I can't do anything with my left. Ronnie
