  1. Had some luck with the Peacock today
  2. For me it's rods. I use reels on different rods sometimes. I currently have one more rod than I do reels.
  3. Fluke is pretty much a guaranteed bite for me when they are schooling...so are worms...and almost everything else. It's almost like they are just more confident in groups so when they see something they are way more likely to just go after it than to be tentative like if they were by themselves. But if I had to say one it would be a fluke.
  4. Maybe it's just me but I much prefer to have 2 of something I am happy with than 1 of something that might be better. For example, if I had 300$ I'd rather get two good rods for 150 that I like, than one 300$ rod that might be awesome. It's just my preference.
  5. I would say just be mindful of your slack line. When standing on the bank, We have the ability to lean back when setting the hook, even take a step back. On a 'yak, we can pretty much only use our arms, unless standing, but even still there is limited movement compared to on the bank. I try to set the hook and reel quickly after, more quickly than when standing on the bank. These keeps the line tight against the fish, which is probably why you are losing them. At least, thats what it was for me. One second of slack line could be the difference between fish and no fish.
  6. Xraps, or Flukes. They always seem to go after those fish style baits.
  7. Just be sure to not set the hook right when you feel a bite. A lot of times I give them a second to really grab it, then set the hook. Using that method made me stop missing fish with flukes.
  8. According to my bank account, my favorite thing to get at Bass Pro Shop is: more than I should spend.
  9. Good suggestion. I did this at a local pool actually haha. It was 10 feet deep, I timed the fall on multiple baits. Now I can tell the depth based off of that info. Be sure to ask before attempting........
  10. I have a Supreme and prefer the 35 size for the amount of line I can keep on the reel. Doesn't seem to large at all for me, mostly throw plastics on that set up. I guess it could be different because the Supreme is so light compared to other reels that a larger reel doesn't seem as large. I would pick it based on the line you plan to use.
  11. Fishing has been great for me actually, haven't caught less than 5 in the past couple weeks. Rain has been crazy though 0_o The overcast weather is keeping the fish more active it seems.
  12. So... I found this ultralight rod at BPS for 5$ in the clearance rack Decided to break it in today, just catching some little guys at a little local pond, and what do I know, this guy grabs my line. Felt like the fight of my life with 6lb test haha it was so much fun. I also got to break in my new scale, and he was 4lbs on the dot. Anyone else got some ultralight bass stories?
  13. I'd get a Carbonlite, extremely sensitive and really will communicate the bottom of where you are fishing like you want it to.
  14. I also would recommend 2 kayaks over just one canoe. Just much more freedom and versatility for that, plus if you wanted to go solo it's much easier.
  15. All good buddy, that's why we got on a forum, to find out everyone's different opinions and compare and contrast them to our own, find out new things and hopefully teach others sometimes too. It's all good and fun imo
  16. And? I agree with you? lol Just because you can impart many types of actions to a bait doesn't mean it doesn't have it's own. As far as I'm concerned anything with a bill has it's own action. You can do whatever you want to your bait haha no one said a bait has it's own action and that's it and don't impart any of your own to it. But as I said, twice, it depends on the bait, and as I also said, sometimes either is more important. I can impart all the action I want on all the things you've kindly listed above but if the fish can't see it, or if they don't want it that day, or whatever reason, it won't catch fish. It's obviously a subjective question, and this is obviously my subjective answer.
  17. It depends on the bait. Most hard baits today have their own action, so color would be more important since either way, two of the same baits would have the same action. Soft baits such as worms, many times have their own action as well such as ribbon tail worms, or a senko, which just floating down by itself will catch tons of bass. So for me I would actually pick color before action, because if the bass can't see the bait, or if the bait isn't something the bass wants that particular day, then the action doesn't mean as much to me. However there are many instances when the action is more important than the color. If the bass are really keying in on a specific type of bait, the color is meaningless because they are hitting that certain action. It happens to me often with flukes. Again, depends on the bait.
  18. For me the 40 size felt too big, I have a SupremeMGX 35 size. Just depends how much line you want to put on it. You technically can put heavier line on it, it just won't have as much of it on there.
  19. First tip don't bring too much stuff. A big old back of tackle gets heavy after a while, and you wanna take your time
  20. I've used KVD shaky heads, and Spot Removers and liked both, however I use the spot remover more because it is more durable in terms of the paint on it, and it seems to get through weeds better. In South Florida there is grass almost everywhere so thats important. 3/8 size for me
  21. Never fished out of a sit in, but I imagine I'd still prefer the stability of sit on top, which is what I would recommend.
  22. And I pretty much only use size 4 EWG hooks for Flukes. lol, personal preference, and depends how you fish it. I have never had a problem with durability that warranted me trying screwlock hooks.
  23. Carbonlite 6'9" with Pflueger Supreme, Shaky head with Trick worm, Watermelon Red Chartreuse tail
  24. Anyone seen this before? Been fishing for a while and haven't. Saw a fish flopping about 30 yards away, walked up to it only to find a snake attached to it.
