  1. Killer for me in the spring for decent size fish.
  2. Initial observation, the Legend is more sensitive using the old carpet tip drag test, the EVA grip on the steez dampens the sensitivity I could tell. Both balance really well.
  3. DAIWA Steez Bottom Contact AGS Vs ST CROIX LEGEND XTREME AGS Both Equipped with a Daiwa STEEZ A TW Which one wins? I'll find out this Saturday, both will have Sunline Shooter 14lb and both will have the same size Football Jig and trailer.
  4. A 7ft Medium fast action is what your looking for in the St Croix line. I've had that rod in Premier, Avid, Avid X, Legend X which is what I currently have that model in and I use it exclusively for small texas rigs, weightless 5 inch senkos, and up to 3/8 jigs with double tail Yamamoto grubs which is around 1/2 ounce once you add the 5 inch grub I can throw 1/4 ounce TOTAL "I weight a lot of my lures on a food scale to match the total weight with the correct rod" weight on it if I need to and casts admirably, but I use Daiwa SV reels so casting lighter weights could very depending on brand of reel you prefer. Tackle Trap has 20% off Avid X and Legend X rods right now in their monthly special so act accordingly.
  5. Sometimes they make a difference sometimes not, I mostly use scent when the fishing is tough or if I'm on a buddies boat and not my own. 90% of the fish I've caught according to my logs on the first cast of the day has been with scent added. Scent is effective in some cases, I've seen it work often enough to know it's not a placebo effect.
  6. Look at the new Ugly Stik carbons at Tacklewarehouse.
  7. Daiwa Alpha CT SV paired with a St Croix Legend Tournament 6ft10 ML XFast. It's spooled with 6 lb line and can cast a 2.75 inch TRD with a 1/15 jig head a country mile, this reel doesn't need controlled or optimum conditions for casting distance. I mostly throw a Trd Tube with a weedless 1/32 ewg jighead on it. If most people go out to a football field and cast from the 50 yard line they would realize their yardage estimations are in need of a recalibration. So if your looking for a bfs reel this one is it.
  8. These two are a good budget option, full carbon no fiberglass, these have been out for a few months.
  9. Awesome setup, its rated as a Light but it fishes more like a UL+ Legend Elite Panfish 7ft light extra fast, you can feel everything with this rod. I use it mostly for weightless 2 inch senkos.
  10. The newer redesigned Legend Tournaments are much better, lighter and more "balanced". In your $ range I would look at the below rods that I have all owned in no particular order. St Croix Avid, Avid X or legend Tournaments. Shimano Zodias or Expride G loomis IMX And I definitely would not overlook the Major craft MS-1 Series excellent rods at an awesome price point they rival certain more expensive rods at a realistic price point. Phenix rods are good from what I hear from buddies but I have no personal experience with them just word of mouth. Dobyns rods are way overrated for the price range they have them at with what you get performance wise, anyone that thinks the price point is justified compared to other rods in that range are just fooling themselves, the first dobyns rods that came out when they still used Lamiglass blanks were solid but that was years ago.
  11. If your not dead set on the lowrider rod, the Major craft MS-1 series is far superior.
  12. Nothing wrong with budget setups. But I personally would never switch from my setups to budget, high end combos make fishing more enjoyable, less fatigued at the end of the day, more accurate casts etc. When your forget about the rod and reel in your hand and your zoned in, you know you have a good setup. Bottom line is you should buy the best you can afford all the time with everything.
  13. When it's tough, I go to a pegged 3/16 tungsten using a PEG IT with a 4.5 inch straight tail roboworm in desert craw, and drag it horizontally SLOOOOOWWWW! in 1 to 2 foot increments, start with a 18 inch leader. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Vike_Tungsten_Carolina_Voodoo_Weight/descpage-VIKEPMW.html https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Top_Brass_Peg-It_2_Pegging_System/descpage-TBPI2.html I snip the peg flush with the weight, you can then slide it up and down to adjust your leader length
  14. Do you keep a detailed log of every trip? Time of year Time of day Body of water Air temp Wind speed Dropping or rising water (this especially in reservoirs) Water temp Water clarity Weather leading up to the day of fishing Weather forecasted the day after Moon phase And then the baits including color size and weights, techniques, size and Quantity of fish that were caught If not start, you'll start to see a pattern depending on the time of year and body of water, which presentations work best during a great/good bite and a slow bite. With the data in your log you can then start with the presentation that yields the best results for the current fishing situation and go from there. A bonus to keeping a log is that it eliminates unproductive lures/baits from your arsenal.
  15. I've had both, mostly mid range to high end. I've settled on Daiwa, I just like them more, but they are both solid and light years ahead of all the other options especially at the $180 mark and up. I do feel that Daiwa spinning reels are a lot better than shimano in the spinning reel department dollar for dollar.
  16. I decided to go with both the Legend Tournament Carolina Rig Rod and the Daiwa Steez AGS Bottom Contact. Thanks for all the advice
  17. I agree the Loomis MBR series is a versatile choice if your limited on rods or lures for one reason or another. They are similar to multi purpose surface cleaners, they get the job done and dont take up a lot of room by having a cleaning product for every application, the only problem is they are not the best choice for most applications, but they work if good enough is acceptable. Rods for specific applications fits my fishing style better, after all sometimes it comes down to the details.
  18. I couldn't put a daiwa on a shimano rod its sacrilegious, that's another reason I got rid of my NRX rods, I converted to Daiwa. The Steez I'll look into.
  19. I'll look into the megabass and the steez, not a fan of the NRX build quality, awesome blank factory second build quality, which made me sell mine the ones I had.
  20. I dont have any budget restrictions, yes the ALX rods are not for me, ugly design and I dont like how they fish, I've played with a few. The weights I use are up to 1 ounce tungsten but mostly 3/4. Lures are no heavier than a 6 inch senko. These are the brands I will not consider ALX Lews 13 fishing Phoenix Powell Quantum Abu Berkley
  21. That guy is super heavy and 6.6 ounces.
  22. Hey guys looking for a new Carolina rig rod, help me decide, experience with the below choices are preferred any other brand are welcome, budget rods are out of the question. St Croix: The legend Tournament part number: LBC74MHF Legend X part number: XLC74HF. Avid X part number: AXC74MHF Also the Legend Elite part number: EC74HF And finally what about a moderate fast rod like the Legend X: XLC76MHMF Daiwa: Steez STZ751MH/HFB-AGS
  23. I'm looking for someone that makes screw lock shaky heads with a 2/0 hook.
