Well for the surf i also have the legendary 706Z bailless made in USA. This reel is bulletproof. A van staal is way too expensive, i do have one but i rarely use it. In my opinion - theirs no better reel than the 706Z. $200 for a made in USA and its proven for decades in fishing industries today (unheard of).

Believe it or not the fierce,sargus, battle and conflict are all the same reel, its just that the conflict is the most upgraded of them all. The spinfisher v is the best spinning reel they make after the penn torque. The spinfisher v is a true strong saltwater spinning reel it has alot of drag and power. I use the 3500 for bass and inshore and the 5500 for surf and jetties.

Like sirsnook said i think you have a lemon reel. Penn battles are saltwater reel and has metal all over it. Stradic fj are freshwater reels but are saltwater approve. The bad thing about that reel is that the stradic's are like 70% plastic. So if you're gonna use it in jetties and surf or saltwater, the battle will be better for that. I prefer the penn spinfisher v.

Ugly Stik is the worlds strongest rod. I'm glad i have the knowledge that a lot of people lack. Regardless of what people say, I will continue make investments on Ugly Stik rods because i know what that rod is capable of. Like i said before I don't let the advertisements get me. Anyone can catch fish with a $300 as well as a $40 rod. How sensitive a rod is, does not determine catching fish. The world record bass in Georgia was caught on a fiberglass rod.

Mono is the most versatile fishing line. I use it for bigger fish.

Remember just because something is highly favored, it dose not mean that is good. Mcdonalds is highly favored, but is it good? Think about it.

I asked a fwc and a sheriff this question and they told me no, But i don't trust none of them because some will say something and some will say something else.

People here don't like quantum so they will tell you to buy other brands that are not even good. I think that thats a good choice, you will love your quantum combo. Quantum makes quality products. Ones again. that's a very good choice so i would go for it. Regardless of what people tell you, i suggest you try it out first, before people lead you on the wrong direction.

True its not a gimmick, Ugly stik is proven for decades, like i said i have one for over 20 years and its still catching fish today. If that a gimmick, then i want gimmicks for all my gear LOL. (PROVEN AND GIMMICKS ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS.) Gimmicks is what people say and talk about how good other rods are. Proven is the experience that we have with the product satisfaction and dependable.

Correct!!! For $40 you get a bulletproof rod that will last you forever!!! You can't say that with any rod. The new GX2 is improved and added more graphite for more sensitivity. The new angler or budget fishermen will make a smart choice investing on a ugly stik GX2 rods. The inshore lite series rods that can be used for bass, has the most graphite than any other of their rods. Its has more graphite than fiberglass. Last but not least, these rods have warranty which is crazy because they don't break.

PowerPro is a strong braided line that has a small diameter and you can cast further also you can feel bites better because it has no stretch. Fluorocarbon line is like regular monofilament line but better, you need it because fish can see your braided line so fluorocarbon is like a transparent line so fish wont see you line. type it in youtube and you'll see. And no, don't buy the combo, the reel in that combo is cheap and garbage so buy the ugly stik Gx2 rod 7 foot, but make sure its a one piece not a two piece rod. pair it up with a Penn fierce 4000 reel and you set. YouTube it. theres alot of videos

I have a few that i use for bass and saltwater. Great rods. I have one that is 20 years old. Bullet proof rods. Bend a $500 rod and bend this $50 ugly stik dollar rod and see which one breaks.

Do you know how to read? guess not. repeating myself again. I said I use spinning gear 80% of the time because is very versatile. people say baitcasters are better for heavier stuff but people catch big fish up to 1000+ pound on fly and spinning gear, so calling spinning gear and fly gear finesse is an understatement.

I use a 20 to 30 pound fluorocarbon leader for bass.

LOL i never even heard of those reels. Maybe their not as popular as curado, so their is no way that those are shimanos flagship. Flagship also has to be the best selling reels to become a flagship, If it does not sell, then its not a flagship, I dont think the average consumer will pay $600 for a reel. LOL some of you guys here are funny and are very denial. We all understand that you love shimano so much that thats the only reel you'll probably buy.

Don't confuse Flagship with high end reels. The exo came out because of competition. Reels are getting lighter and lighter so quantum to stay in the competition they came out with one of the lightest reels they ever came out and they came out with the tour MG that is even lighter. The shimano Calais DC is their high end reel $650. Shimano focuses on the curado more than any other reel that's why they keep making improvements every other year

KVD is their Flagship. Just like shimano flagship is curado, its also the best selling reel shimano makes in the freshwater section. Daiwa i think is the Zillon.

Quantum flagship reel has always been the KVD reel. Any person will tell you that. If quantum used to have bad quality control, than shimano has bad QC now because i gave shimano more than 5 try and all have failed me, I even use a shimano saltwater reel for bass and it broke on a 5 pound bass, and that gear was meant for tarpon and snook LOL.
