  1. I would use it for jerkbaits and maybe buzzbaits and plugs.
  2. I use to throw deep divers on a rod more suitable for the shallow stuff... and I would ask the same. Running the crank alone took too much effort. If you get the right tool for the job, it won't feel so overpowering. Either way, when a fish is on.. you'll know it.

Unfortunately not. However- I did find a bunch of jitterbugs in my grandfather's old tackle. Still had the price tag on them.... .62 cents.
  4. The tree hugger in me is the main reason I go with tungsten, but as mentioned above the size vs. weight is also another key benefit.
  5. It just seems like that is the way they're heading... higher and higher...
  6. Very cool.... When are we gonna hit double digit ratios?
  7. Tom- from the looks of his profile picture... the shorter the rod, the easier it will be to travel with.
  8. Due to the fact that most waters I fish are extremely muddy (and also my laziness), I do not use leaders with my braid.
  9. I use both and have never had an issue with either. Those are also the only two lb tests of braid I have ever run, so i cannot compare vs some of the other popular tests.
  10. MSRP: Spinning: BPS Graphite 6'6 spinning (I think $35~) with a Pflueger President. Casting: Old Fenwick HMX with an old Shimano reel (name escapes me). Strictly speaking the price I paid: A few weekends ago, I picked up three Speed Spools for $35 a pop and a pair of Crucial's for 42$ and a Veritas for 34$.
  11. That could be a possible route to take. Might be worth reaching out to DVT or Low Down Customs to see if a rod that short can be made to fish swimbaits.
  12. From your list, I have only used the Tatula ($100), Tatula Type R ($140) and the Curado 200e7 (I think I got it for around $200).... All great reels and you can't go wrong with either of them (I'm sure the Curado I is just as good). I purchased the Type R strictly for the higher gear ratio, if that is not a concern... the standard Tatula is the best value IMO.
  13. I would say it depends how you work the jerkbait. For me- I jerk it straight down, and use a 6'6 so I'm not slapping my rod against the boat/water. If you use a more side to side action- a 7 footer shouldn't be too much of an issue. As mentioned above- I would look at Dobyn's first.
  14. Is the Cobbett's boat ramp open to the public? I have always wanted to fish Canobie but don't want to deal with the boat ramp...
  15. Picked up my first Powell this summer, Endurance 714. Love it- interested to hear how you like the max 3d.... will probably add another this summer..
  16. C and wacky. Just not patient enough. Too many lures, not enough time.
  17. +1, no complaints for $35~.
  18. Dobyn's 735 (1/4 - 1 1/2oz) was the shortest I could find near your range. I am sure someone might know of a shorter rod that can effectively handle what you are looking for.
  19. Interesting stuff... I was starting to lean towards the Cardiff, so this helped a lot. Regarding the 200 size IPT/cadence, is it because the amount of line on the spool would change so much during the retrieve, the IPT would vary greatly? EDIT: Found this video- helped a lot.
  20. I appreciate your feedback (and everyone else's)... good luck with the Ryoga!
  21. Anyone have experience with the Pluton or Ryoga? Better than the Conquest?
  22. Wish we had a better idea of when the 300s were being released...
  23. Tough to argue against this- thanks for the response!
  24. I suppose this is a decision that comes down to me. The main decision I am trying to make is if the performance jump between a $110->$280->$400 reel is worth it. Is the difference between the high $200 level reels much higher than the sub 150 reels (abu/shimano), but not worth the leap to the $400 reel? Or is the $400 reel light years above the others? I guess this has already been answered on here plenty of times. Without any hands on real world use, it is just hard to know the difference in performance between the reels.
  25. Hi Guys, I know there has been a lot of discussions on round reels lately (i.e. best one <$350), but I still haven't been able to decide on the one that I would like to purchase this off season. The reel is going to go on my Mike Long 806 Dobyn's. Gonna throw a wide range of swimbaits, primarily in the 2-5oz range. Using Maxima 25lb Mono (0.020"). I have attempted to narrow it down to 3 reels, all in different price ranges. I would like to here your opinions on which reel has the best value (Also- any other suggestions that may be better and if the reel size is sufficient for the line listed above). Cardiff 300 Luna 253 New Conquest 200 (currently $398 shipped on jpangler) I know the Calcutta 250DC can be found for a solid price on some sites, but i would like to try and limit it to under $400 (although between now and the spring time I may crack and go big). Any feedback is much appreciated.
