  1. Went to another DSG in Mass and scooped some more goodies: (3) Lew's SS1 - (2) 6.4, (1) 5.4 = $34.99 each (1) Veritas - $34.99 (1) Crucial - $42.49 Gonna be a long winter.
  2. I would ask for a price check, regardless of the listed price. Nothing to lose. My rod was only marked down to 129.99, cashier looked so confused when it rang up to $42.
  3. No guarantee, but it is definitely worth a check. I am going to try a few others tomorrow, in hopes of scooping up a mega discounted reel.
  4. Thank you, lordpaxin. Swung by my Dick's. Was a little hesitant to ask for a price check as the tag on the Crucial was $129.99, marked down from $149.99. Low and behold it rang in at $42.48. Think I might pair it up with one of those Lew's SS1's from TW...
  5. Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback and suggestions!
  6. Hi Guys, Anyone have experience with this particular rod? I have an opportunity to purchase one for $200 (Brand new). Currently, my main jigging rod is a Powell Endurance 704. Is it worth adding this to the arsenal or is it too similar to the Powell? Any help is much appreciated.
  7. I appreciate this info as well. Looking forward to getting my new setup!
  8. Wow! I appreciate the response. Looks like I have quite the decision to make. I think I may have to go with the 795. Once I am more seasoned with swimbaits, I will probably go with the 867 and step up to bigger baits. Thanks again!
  9. Since I have never tossed SBs, my plan was to pick up a few various styles from the following brands to start: -Hudds -Spro -Savage Gear (Line Through) Pretty much open to any Swimbait, that doesn't break the bank. Setup will mostly be used on a moderately-clear lake. Also- planning on pairing it with a Shimano Cardiff 400.
  10. Looking to pick up my first swimbait setup this off season and am trying to decide between these two lines of rods... Am i just splitting hairs? Does anyone know a legitimate difference between the two? Also- please let me know if there are better options for a swimbait rod! -Thanks
  11. I use the BPS mesh socks whenever the rod isn't on my deck. I am in need of a few more, so I will definitely look into the stick jackets mentioned above. The only issue I have so far with the mesh BPS ones was one of my rods stuck through the mess at the top. Most likely caused by me from pushing the sock on too tight. I am not sure how everyone else does it, but I would recommend going up a size or two when buying the socks as well.
  12. Thanks for the input guys! Exactly what I was looking for.
  13. Can't add much to what has already been said. I would say the majority of my use is the drag and hop. Normally I will cast it out and just let it sit(longer than I do with most baits). Then I will slowly hop and drop it back in. I like to run it weightless so, up until an upgrade in spinning gear, I could never cast them far. Nonetheless, they have produced more fish for me than any other plastic. I gave the regular brush hogs a shot, thinking the added size could help me cast them longer, but I wasn't a big fan of the action and went right back to the smaller ones.
  14. Was wondering what your opinions are on the application I should be using the below rod for. It is an older baitcasting setup I picked up off Craig's List a few years back and I would like to start using it a little more. Fenwick HMX 6'6" MH Mod Fast with a Shimano Cruxis (6:4:1ish I think). 1/4 - 1 1/4 oz & 10-25lb. If this rod was a little longer, I would probably pair it up with deeper running cranks, but being 6'6" is there something else I could use it with closer to shore or around the docks? FYI- Other than this setup, the rod I use for cranks is 7' Med Mod. Thanks for any input!
  15. I haven't been able to fish with it yet, but today I threw a Tatula Type R on a Powell Endurance 714 with 65lb 832 for those exact applications.
  16. Ha, you know what, that may be it. I will definitely test that tonight. I didn't think that would be the case, since I haven't had to flip the switch on the card to upload the data from the card onto my machine. One thing probably has nothing to do with the other. Thanks for the help!
  17. Has anyone had any experience with Lucky Craft's cranking rods? I was doing some browsing on cranking rods and discovered these. I saw they had a great review from '09 on tackletour, but was wondering if there are better options around today in the sub $200 range. Currently, I am running 7' Carrot Stix Wild Medium-Moderate.. but am thinking about getting something for deep running cranks, or replacing that rod as my cranking rod and using it for something else (Any ideas on what else I could use that rod for?).
  18. Congrats- great choice. Reel is a thing of beauty. I don't think you will have any regrets.
  19. Hi Guys, I have been logging a lot of my sonar recently and have pretty much completely mapped out one of my local lakes. I have the premium subscription for Insight Genesis and have been having an issue with uploading the map back onto my SD card. The instructions say to save the .exe file to my sd card then extract it onto the card. I receive an error message when trying to save the .exe to the card, and have also tried to save the file to another spot, then extract it to my sd card. I am using a 'SanDisk Ultra 32gb MicroSDHC Class 10 UHS Memory Card' and my unit is an Elite 5 HDI. I have emailed Lowrance, but their responses have been taking some time. I suppose I would be best off giving them a call, but was curious to hear if anyone else has an easy fix. Has anyone had this issue? Should I be using a different card? Any insight will be greatly appreciated.
  20. roadwarrior has a good post, that is stickied, about the best rods to have if you're only going to use a few. I use to ask myself the same question about the insane amounts of rods I would see on the decks of boats when watching shows on tv. I always used one spinning setup for everything, then bought a nice baitcasting setup and that started an avalanche of sorts. I still do not have a huge fleet, but I now understand the different line and technique options can be made much easier with a nice arsenal. The same can be said for tackle. Not too long ago, I thought my small Plano tackle box held more lures and plastics than I could ever need. Fast forward a few years and I am now saying the same thing about the 6 or so utility boxes I have filled to the brim.
  21. LOL-experience wins out on this answer, I think I might go pick up a lefty Curado.
  22. I would go with a right handed version baitcaster, IMO. I fished for years with just a spinning reel and always reeled with my left hand. Before I purchased my first BC I did some research and everyone was saying to switch up the retrieve. I am glad I did, as it feels just as natural reeling with my right hand on a BC and left hand on a spinning.
  23. Received my 'Random Jig Pack' today. I was more than thrilled to see what was waiting for me on the inside. 5 awesome jigs (sorry-should have snapped some picks), but they all looked amazing. Great assortment of sizes, types and colors. Will be throwing them on tomorrow and cannot wait! Thanks Mike.
