  1. It's getting to be that time of year again. I'm headed up to the greater Rochester area in about 2 weeks. I was wondering if any of the locals to the area know if the run has started yet? How much water is in the creeks right now? Hopefully someone here is local and can provide some insight. Thanks guys!
  2. I bought one when they came out. Haven't fished it much. I will say its very noisy, and I always seem to do better on silent squrebills.
  3. I have Dobyns cranking rods. I own a 765cb and a 684cb. I will eventually be adding a 705cb as well. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Moving baits are usually a good go to in the fall. Crankbaits, squarebills, jerkbaits, chatter/spinner baits, swimbaits, buzzbaits, spooks, you get the picture.
  5. Trust me when I say, you'll be buying more chatterbaits. Congrats on winning!
  6. I'm sorry, I can't focus after reading about drop shotting a frog...
  7. There are quite a few tournaments on Raystown in October, so don't except to have the lake all to yourself. However, it's much lake any other lake in the fall time. Baitfish are moving up into the numerous different creek arms and the fish are following them. If you've been looking at the maps online, I'm sure you know the spots I am referring to.
  8. Avid or Dobyns Champion
  9. Like AJay said, it's all preference. I prefer graphite for everything, while some guys prefer glass for cranking. Almost any high end graphite cranking rod these days has a great parabolic bend to it.
  10. Yes, the Assassin was just released about a month or two ago. I bought a spool of 8 and 15lb but haven't used it yet. I use Sniper almost exclusively for my FC needs, so I'm interested to see how the Assassin performs, being that its at the same price point.
  11. Sorry about your luck. Good luck with the postal service claim. This is why I don't buy rods second hand.
  12. Check out the Jackall Soul Shad and Pompadour (and Jr). The soul shad is a very similar to the Shad Rap. The Pompadour is a new topwater bait that causes a lot of commotion.
  13. Stradic's are always very nice reels. If you're looking to save a few bucks off the Stradic and you want to stick with Shimano, I highly recommend the Saros as well.
  14. I have a 6'8" M spinning E6X. I also own a 7'MH-M Avid X casting rod. While they are totally different rods, I can tell you that the blank on the Avid is much nicer all around than the E6X. Don't get me wrong, the E6X is a nice rod, I would certainly rather have the Avid over it, given the choice.
  15. As many have already stated, you'll learn the feel of a bite over time. Additionally, bluegill/perch/crappie love to peck at plastic baits (especially craws). Many of Havoc Pit Bosses I've felt nibbles on and reeled it in only to find that the claws are all gone.
  16. JIm pretty much hit the nail on the head. Pleasure boat traffic should be basically non-existent at that point as well.
  17. Various different 3700 and 3600 boxes. I have 2 of the waterproof boxes you mentioned that I will take with me on rainy days and I will put the baits I'm using in them on the boat deck. One thing to be careful of with those boxes is they're air tight. So after a day of fishing and having wet lures inside the box and sealing it up, you need to open the box up and let it dry out once you get home. Otherwise your hooks/hardware will rust from sitting in a wet box for an extended amount of time. I really like using the 3701 and 3601 boxes because they are thinner, and allow me to put more boxes inside my tackle bag whenever I fish as a co-angler.
  18. Fishing any topwater plastic is a tough hookup. Upon getting bit, you need to drop your rod tip and give the fish 1-2 seconds to fully get the bait into their mouth, and then lay the wood to them.
  19. Yes, pike can take over a spot. More than likely, those bass are still somewhere close by. They could be suspended out in that deep water, following bait.
  20. Plano makes a 3700 style box that works ok, but I"m not a huge fan of it. They also make a cube shaped one as well, which works well, but as a co-angler, they're not ideal.
  21. I have had braid slip on me if I'm using a smooth, solid spool. If you have a wiffle spool with holes in it where you can tie the braid directly to the spool, you shouldn't have any slippage issues. But regardless, it's more economical to put some cheap mono backing on the reel and then top it off with the last 70 yards or so of braid.
  22. I hate to hijack a thread, but I'm looking at these same rods right now. What would be the recommended rod for throwing the Jackall Gantarel? I'm thinking the 7'6" H-MF which is rated 1-5oz.
  23. Like others have said, texas rig a pegged tube if that is what has been working for you. Anything texas rigged should work fine. Even a Tex-posed shakeyhead would probably work.
  24. Just got this baby in yesterday. It's the 6'8" M-XF model.
